MSEP Returns

I don’t understand your first sentence or last sentences though. Can you explain?

The first sentence refers to the widely held belief that Disneyland isn't able to comfortably accommodate the estimated 18.66 million visitors it hosted last year. From the recent online photos and wait times I've seen the park looks to be populated at about the same levels as summers in the early to mid-1980s, back when annual attendance was roughly half what it is today.

In the last sentence I was making a point that I'd be completely fine if this is what future summer traffic patterns are at DLR indefinitely, and I'm foolishly hoping Disney intentionally intends to continue to clear the crowds during the summer for people like me who hate them. :D

Ahhh gotcha. It can defintley accommodate them especially with SWL and all the other capacity they be created since the 80s. I always said that the capacity SWL provides would be greater than the newbies SWL pulls in and that it would be a net gain in terms of comfort and capacity.

As far as your last sentence I think what threw me off is that the crowds have picked up the last few weeks. It’s been moderately busy. Not crazy but not how it was in June through mid July. But yeah I hope there can always be a season where we can experience DL in desirable conditions.

Hmm, Interesting. Disneyland releasing new MSEP merchandise for a one month run... And no more “Limited Time” mention.

Better than the last ones IMO.

Most of the art for the merchandise appears to be reused for when it returned back in 2017.

Most notably this shirt featuring Mickey which appears to been used during the Farewell Season back in 1996.

I kind of question your assessment. The park isn't twice the size with double the ride capacity that it had then. Also keep in mind that even with fewer guests in those days everyone thought the place was crowded in the summer, which is probably why it generally seems like a zoo to me now. I guess we'll see the real impact of the SWGE expansion this fall when traffic flows return to "normal".

Have the crowds doubled though? I’m just saying it has more capacity then it did back then. It hasn’t caught up with the crowds obviously but all the additions help. ROTR, SWL, and MMRR will help even more. I think it’ll come a point when demand will slow down and simultaneously these lands and rides will help make a noticeable impact in the crowd levels.

Have the crowds doubled though?

In 1980 DL attendance had surged to 11 million and slipped to under 10 million a few years later, so not quite, but they're basically there.

It wasn't until 1985 that attendance really started its upward trend. It's also notable that Disneyland Annual Passes were made available to the general public for the first time in 1984 and that 1985 was DL's 30th Anniversary Celebration. Attendance has never dropped below 11 million since.

Anyway, we should probably get back on topic.

I have a feeling this wont be the last of this parade, they gotta have one more "final final final" run so they can drain as much money as they can from this parade.

Anyway, Disneyland just shared a Buzzfeed article giving "13 electrifying facts about the parade" to celebrate it's return for the third time.

You know what, if Disney keeps bringing back the MSEP (For the third time in a row). The entire parade might even give the Walt Disney World Castle float, the Barn float, one of the Christmas floats for the Ounce Upon A Christmas Time Parade/A Christmas Fantasy, a run for it's money.

The Castle float is currently 38 years old while the MSEP is almost 50 years old.

All four floats mentioned in this comment might be one of the longest running parade floats at any Disney Theme Park.

Wow...there is something really visually wrong with that shirt design.
Look at where Mickey's hands are in relation to the edges of the circular logo.
He is not holding it by the edges and whoever put this reused artwork together totally botched the job!
Just wow...I mean, LOOK at it!
( artist / graphic designer me freaks out a little )

In other news....

Hey, who is going to watch the Parks Blog live feed tonight to see how many Parade units are missing for this time around?
( Raises hand )
Yes, I will be watching from 2,864 miles away here on the East Coast where it will be midnight by the time it steps off online out West.

Looking forward to seeing what remains.
I was there the night Disneyland held the Parades 'final performance' a couple of years ago...still have my plastic bulb covers one of the Mickey Drum float CMs passed to me on the parade route that night.
Yes, I'm a mega fan for the original MSEP.

So much for the emotional final performance for MSEP back during the "Farewell Season". Compare the crow reaction from the final showing and 1996 in general.

To 2017 where you hear some audiences cheering but not to the same energy as 1996.

At this point, MSEP will never get a chance to have a proper retirement now. The parade is currently 47 years old (42 if you count the current floats and Pete's Dragon). It seriously needs to die and let "Tokyo Disneyland Electrical Parade Dreamlights" carry on the legacy of MSEP to a new generation.

most of the floats are 42 years old. Tinkerbells float is 10, Smee's boat is 17 (a newer version of his '85 boat was put in service when DEP opened at DCA in '01 Peter Pan the Seven Dwarves and Pinocchio are from '85 as is the Ballroom float from Cinderella, and the Eagle is from '79
