Mousekeeping?

Couple of questions--one, when you leave a daily tip for the housekeepers at a WDW resort, do you leave it in an envelope, or just on the dresser? And, we all call them "mousekeeping" on here, but if you do leave an envelope for them, do you address it to Mousekeeping? I don't want to upset anyone working at WDW!

You should leave a note saying it's for them, otherwise they might think it's just stray money you forgot and an honest mousekeeper would leave it.
I always write a note on a envelope saying To Mousekeeping - Thanks! and leave $1/person/day. So if I were traveling with 3 people in the room, I'd leave $3/day. It's up to you though.

There's a link somewhere to a site that has envelope clip art for Mousekeeping. You can choose from some different Disney images and then just stick your envelope in the printer. They all say "For Mousekeeping" and some have it written in spanish as well. We printed a bunch off before we went and we would leave the envelope on the pillow for them. Although, we didn't need that many envelopes - most Mousekeepers took the money and left the empty envelope (I guess so we could use it again). I just thought it was cute that they left the envelope! I'll try to dig up that site for you...

There's often a little tent-style housekeeping card in the room that says "I have prepared your room for you..." (blah blah blah). I leave the money folded but visible underneath that, on the bathroom vanity area. They never fail to get it.

Here is the link for the site where you can print your own envelopes.

I did them all up before we left, wrote a little "Thank you for all your hard work we really appriciate it" & secured then closed with a Disney sticker. I stuck them all in a zip lock bag so they wouldnt get scattered around. For 2 people I left $2 a day and on the last day I left $5. I left the envelope on the night stand between the beds and they found it.

We do the same, usually in an envelope labeled mousekeeping.

I wrote a little note saying "For Mousekeeping--Thanks!" on stationary with Disney pictures and left it on the side table. I left a couple of dollars each day and $5 on the last day for 3 people.

I prepare envelopes decorate with Disney character stickers and "Thank you Mousekeeping" plus the date on the outside before we leave home. That way, all I have to do is pull one out each morning before we set off for the parks. The tip standard that I adhere to is $2 per day per person.

I've had housekeeping CMs thank me for "the envelope." It seems to really make a difference to them.

Same here...$1 per person per day and $5 on the last. We always leave it in the envelope they provide but I like the link idea above and will try that next time...thanks!! :ROFLOL:

If it's just me in the room, I still leave two bucks. Just a quick note, though... you might consider equally spreading out your tips all week long rather than a "balloon payment" on the last day after multiple smaller payments all week long. Two trains of thought:

1) Spread it out equally all week long, since the weekend housekeeper (when you leave) may not be the same one who cleaned your room all week long on weekdays.

2) Keep the daily payments, but leave a "balloon payment" at the end because it's a lot more work to "reset" the room than just a daily tidy.

The choice is yours. Generally speaking, ANYTHING is appreciated because surprisingly few people actually leave the tips.

Last trip I spent a day making pretty Disney-themed thank you cards, each one different. I had each member of the family sign their name to every card so it looksed like each person made the effort. There are 4 of us. We usually put $5 each day and $20 on our final day. Also, the final day we sometimes make an effort to hand-deliver our card so we can say thank you personally. The envelopes are always addressed to 'Mousekeeping' and left on the vanity so they won't be missed.

I don't want to sound like a jerk, but I'm sure it will sound like that. The question I want to ask is why tip housekeeping? I was raised that there are definately people who you tip, waiters-waitresses and hairsylists. Waiters because they earn less than minimum wage and hairstylists becuase typically they "rent" their spot and you are actuall paying thier wage. So since housekeeping is paid at least minimum wage (still crappy pay though) why is there the need to tip? I guess I've just been jaded since everywhere I go I see some type of tip jar with everybody and their brother expecting a tip for the job they are already paid to do.

Has tipping of housekeeping always been the norm or just something that has taken off recently? Am I just really that much out of the loop of what is proper to do? I'm truly asking this to find out the answer and to not start a war/debate. Still though, I'm putting on my flame-retardent pants.

Hey don't feel bad. I thought the same thing when I first heard of tipping mousekeeping.

I don't think you sound like a jerk. I understand the frustration. I have heard the same thing about the "tip" jars that are now appearing in front of cash registers in stores across the country. I think it goes back to what you said, these people are paid minimum wage, which isn't a living wage. I don't think you HAVE to tip mousekeeping, but its nice. I don't make gobs of money. I know what it is like to count every dollar. That is why I don't mind passing a few bucks on to people who are working hard.

By the way, I just use the stationary that you find in the room and write, "Thanks Mousekeeping!!" On it and then leave a dollar for every person who is in the room every day, that way the person who cleaned the room that day gets the tip. (ie, 2 people, I leave $2 a day)

Tipping?

I've been traveling for many years, when I was young I traveled extensively with my grandparents. My grandfather always left a tip in the room for each day we stayed in the room. My DH and I tip for housekeeping (Mousekeeping in this instance) and we have seen an improvement in the quality of the cleanliness, extra towels etc. in the rooms we have stayed in.

Additionally on the website www.themouseforless.com you can print out really cute envelopes for leaving the tip each day in your room. I agree with the previous poster, we leave $2 a day.

Have a wonderful trip!

Last year, when we stayed at Port Orleans Riverside, and being from Louisiana, we thought long and hard about what to do for Mousekeeping other than our normal envelopes.....we had left over Mardi Gras beads and Doubloons and cups, so we took 1 cup for each day with a couple of extras...filled them with the beads and doubloons and put the money on top, and put a little tag on it for "Mousekeeping". they even left us a note one day THANKING US!! I thought that was sweet considering with 3 boys going between 2 connecting rooms the destruction and mayhem of the beds and all of their stuff...they did very well......
