Most under-rated Disney movie

Mine are Hercules (animated). The music was great and the movie had great characters. The Gnome Mobile (live action). Showed it was a good time to be in the forest if you were an available gnome.

I remember the Gnome Mobile!! My Dad took me to a Matinee and to the drive in to see it. I loved that movie. I wanted to be Violet! LOL

The Black Hole and Brother Bear.

Speaking of the The Black Hole, did anyone that saw Tron:Legacy notice The Black Hole poster in Sam Flynn's bedroom and an action figure of the robot B.O.B can be seen next to the Tron figures on the shelf?

Makes me wonder if those old rumors of a 'The Black Hole' remake is really going to happen.

I was a teenager when the Gnome Mobile was released. I remember it because I took my little sister to see it. Also because it was one of the few times Walter Brennan (the rich old guy) didn't play a western character with a limp.

Bolt, Tangled, Aristocats and 101 Dalmatians are great movies without a lot of presence in the parks...I'd like to see more of them!

My favorite Disney movies are the least popular ones.

Hunchback of Notre Dame - It has a beautiful score. The depiction of Notre Dame was so accurate. The storyline of monster/man and acceptance/rejection were very powerful.

Hercules - the moral of the story was beautiful. What really makes a hero, wanting to be good enough for your parents, sacrifice

Atlantis - beautiful instrumental score, very spiritual without being religious, unique ideas.

Good thread topic. I have a few.
First, "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea." So many people have not seen this masterpiece!! What a truly great film it is.

Secondly, the original "101 Dalmatians." NO Disney Park presences at all, what gives? I think it's one of the best cartoon films Disney ever made!

A few others: the original "That Darn Cat!," "Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier" "The gy Dog." All great stuff. Virtually unheard of by today's kids. They'd rather watch the garbage on Disney Channel these days.
All great movies - nice list.

Most underrated animated film: The Great Mouse Detective
This movie is funny and has a great story. I love the voice work on this film, especially Vincent Price as Professor Ratigan, who is also Disney's most underrated villain. The score and songs are also unjustly overlooked, but I think they are right up there with the more well-known pieces in Henry Mancini's body of work.

Most underrated live-action film: toss-up between Pete's Dragon and The Rocketeer
Pete's Dragon has some great performances from a variety of seasoned character actors, but relative novices Helen Reddy and Sean Marshall were also excellent in this movie. Don Bluth did a spectacular job with the animation of Elliot as well. This movie boasts some of the best songs in any Disney movie, but sadly, other than "Candle on the Water", you won't hear them too much.

The Rocketeer is an excellent period piece, and it's a shame that it was overshadowed by Terminator 2 when it was released. It's an exciting story filled with intrigue. The dialogue is perfect for the setting, and the action scenes are well done. Plus, you just can't wrong with a movie when you have zeppelins and gangsters. :)

Blackbeard's Ghost

Blackbeard's Ghost. I laugh out loud every time I see Blackbeard dancing with the cheerleaders at the track meet. ROFLOL: Peter Ustinov was great. Dean Jones and Susan Pleshette were also very good. The fight scene in the casino is also a classic.

I have to say ditto to The Emperor's New Groove - my personal favorite Disney movie ever. I've seen it a million times & never get tired of it. I'll always hope to see Kronk or Kuzco in the park again.

I love Meet the Robinson's too. It ends w/my favorite Walt Disney quote.

Cool thread! Nice to see some of my faves already listed.

My list of 'forgotten' but fantastic films would be:

The Rescuers Down Under - COMPLETELY overlooked even when it was first released since it followed The Little Mermaid's release in 1990. Some spectacular animated segments and the score by Bruce Broughton is wonderful. No wonder they still use the main theme today at EPCOT!

Brother Bear - Wonderful film with gorgeous art direction, catchy score and songs, and just a great story. A must see.

Robin Hood - One of my faves...just wacky fun. Sir Hiss and Prince John rule!

Oliver & Company - Not sure if it is really 'forgotten' as it was very popular back during it's original release, but there is certainly no Park presence. Tito was the movie....totally.

Treasure Planet - A stunning effort, still cannot understand why this 'flopped'. The art direction, and the idea behind the mix in colonial and high tech was genuis. Another wonderful score, and a great adventure story. If this film had been released just two years later, i am certain it would have been a huge hit as it would have been able to ride the 'Pirates craze' crest.

Blink, blink. Breathe, breathe. Day in, day out.
I was watching the Hunchback of Notre Dame with my son last night and got me thinking of other under=rated Disney movies that people like that didn't necessarily have a huge box office draw or critically acclaimed. the HoND was terrific film and probably had the second or third best soundtrack of any animation movie. I get why they said it was a little dark for kids and they completely butchered Victor Hugo's novel, but a very entertaining film with a Broadway type score.

OMG I love looking around websites gathering this information.. so here's deh list!

Mulan
Sword in the Stone
A Bug's Life
Robin Hood
Fox and the Hound
The Great Mouse Detective
Tarzan
Antlantis: The Lost Empire
The Kid
Treasure Planet
Oliver & Company
Ducktales: The Movie
A Goofy Movie
Emperor's New Groove
The Country Bears
Homeward Bound
Pocahontas
The Adventures of Ichabod
Dinosaur
Hercules
Brother Bear
Hunchback of Notre Dame
Enchanted

-----------------------------------

I think Disney could've made the most interesting dark ride with "A Goofy Movie", that movie doesn't get what it deserves and is among my favorites! I also enjoy the 2nd goofy movie.
