The Freshmen by The Verve Pipe
The Lighthouse's Tale by Nickel Creek

It's kinda hard to catch in the first song, but the girl kills herself. However, in the second song, it straight out says what happens to the people: "And then the next day, my keeper found her washed up on the shore. He kissed her cold face, that they'd be together soon he swore. I say him crying, watched as he buried her in the sand. And then he climbed my tower, and off the edge of me her ran."

Now im sad. hehe

"If We Hold On Together"- Diana Ross

Mainly because it came from the Land Before Time which has to be one of the most depressing animated movies ever...

Anything by Karen Carpenter (sorry, dating myself again) Apparently it was all too depressing for her, too.

And We Will All go down Together- Billy Joel

Pumbas Nakasak

Heading for the great escape.
All rap (the c is silent), RnB, Urban, Dance, Techno, Indie, skater, angry young men with a shoe fixation, pop, depresses the hell out of me.

Oh and Coldplay.

Copacabana

It sounds so cheerful until you actually listen to the words...:lookaroun

Eric Clapton's Tears in Heaven.

Indeed. Especially when you think about what happened to that poor boy.

"Candle on the Water" from Pete's Dragon always makes me sad for some reason :o

It's a beautiful song.

Hands down for me:
"Everybody Hurts" by REM

Doesn't it actually have a positive message? I suppose I could look up the lyrics, but I'm too lazy to do that right now.

And Feed the Birds.
Also:
Wind Beanth My Wings by Bette Midler
My Immortal by Evanesance
Here's to the Night by Eve 6
Smile by Charlie Chaplan
Puff the Magic Dragon by Peter, Paul, and Mary
Who Knew by Pink
Hallelujah by Rufus Wainwright
Graduation (Friends Forever) by Vitamin C

I do love depressing songs. :lookaroun

dopey, Have you heard the new version of "In the Ghetto" With Lisa Marie? I swear I don't know why but it made me cry...

I'll try to track it down.

Did you have on your list "My Boy"? That's another good Elvis tune.

God, I love Elvis. I'm listening to "If I Can Dream" right now. :king:

I thought of another one. It's not depressing, but it's such a sweet song that it always makes me cry. "Over The Rainbow/What A Wonderful World" by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole.

Depressing songs are not all a mere lack of happiness and sunshine. You've got some really dark, depressing songs out there, too. You've got:
  • Stalkers (such as "Every Breath You Take", The Police)
  • Obsessives ("I'm Not in Love", 10CC)
  • Suicidal maniacs ("Fade to Black", Metallica)
  • Homicidal-suicidal maniacs ("Don't Fear the Reaper", Blue Oyster Cult).
Scary, depressing stuff. But all great.
