BTW... Tthe "Mouse House" is certainly NOT falling apart...
The Lay-offs are not that big... Most of them settle... and retire like me...
And I agree with them that some are "stuck" in the past... they need "new" visionairs...

Congratulations Corrus on your "retirement" from WDI :) Thanks for all your hard work.

Its nice to finally hear straight from those involved that these layoffs aren't the end of the world and aren't that big. Things can get twisted way out of proportion so fast on these boards which then spread like wildfire across other Disney fan sites that look to wdwmagic for their info ;).

Well Put

It is nice to know that the apparent layoffs are not so big. Good luck to you Corrus. Just wondering, what job did you hold at WDI?

Dang!
So much for buying Corrus dinner and prying dirt out of him!

Just to throw in my 2 cents...
The "layoffs" at WDI were not all that huge. Quite a few talented folks remain...enough that I really don't have any fear of Disney parks going down the tubes, creatively.

Shame about Bruce, though. He and Tony were the two people I most associate with looking out for Disneyland's past, present and future.

Here's a shot of Bob Iger and Corrus (with his ears on)!

Well he didn't need to be so effing rude about it. I'm posting my opinion, and you are speck are accusing me of being high! You could simply say "IMHO, Grizz wouldn't be my choice for CEO," and I'd be cool with that. No need to attack me viciously.

You are a MORON. I'm sorry I said that, but that was really the last straw. You're the cry baby because you're being so rude. Atleast I tried to talk to you in a civilized manner ( with the exception of the moron comment, lol ) All I said was that Grizz was my choice for CEO, yet you treated the comment as if I said something really offensive. No need to be so rude about it. Sheesh!

 Back to topic..........

Corrus, your insight means a lot, and while there are always some "favorites" that leave during transition or packages or whatever...if we are nowhere near critical mass to keep the vision alive...I feel much better.

And for those sounding like Corrus has died....he's just taking a breather....
I'm sure he still has friends (one or two maybe) that can still share information that Corrus may choose to pass on to us from time to time.

Do you have an official end date Corrus...we'll have to throw you a party here or in PML.. :sohappy:

And last but NOT least... I liked Michael Eisner... and I still do... it was a big pleasure working with him...
I always stood by him.. (almost all of WDI did, for that matter)... no matter what has been written...

Well... Freedom is just another word for nothing left to loose... (just kidding)

I'm 55 and it's time for a change... Finally I can walk around in all the parks, the way I want... They granted me my ID card for 5 years...
And financially I'm not complaining... and I won't miss my visits to china and japan... but they tightened my NDA...

Corrus! :sohappy:

My parents just retired at the same age, and I am soooo happy for them that they will be able to relax and enjoy themselves before they get "old"
It's been 2 months- they sold their house and downsized to ditch the mortgage & car payments- and are living happily with no obligations. They look better than they have in years!!!

Enjoy your retirement- I know you've worked very hard and I am sure you are looking forward to spending some much-deserved time with your family

Get with the times Grizzle Fashizzle!

The reality is, Roy Sr. pushed on innovation and Walt was big on entertainment. Since when do you keep an old unpopular format alive...?
Then this is a sad day!
I enjoy CGI animation as much as everyone else, but I still love the classic 2d/3d animations such as Beauty and the Beast! Infact Beauty and the Beast is my all time favorite movie! Better then any Pixar movie ever made!

Well... While I am retiring, my wife isn't... she still runs the travel company, I'll still do the renting of the houses...

Anyway... WDC happy, I'm happy... everyone's happy... :D :D :D
And really... I AM happy... And I'll keep you as much informed about the projects as I can... The Tie will never be totally broken... that's life...

Out of curiousity, I've been trying to think of revolutionary technologies developed, to my knowledge, wholly by Walt Disney Imagineering.

I haven't come up with much. There is:

Audio-Animatronics
Peoplemovers
Omnimovers
EMVs
Test Track
Pooh's Hunny Hunt at TDL
Twilight Zone Tower of Terror -- I think you can make an argument for or against this quite easily.

Anything more? That doesn't seem like much for fifty years of work. WDI will always be a temporary confluence of great minds that come and go in ebbs and flows, supported by the best of the best in making their vision a reality. Consider that we all hope for Disney to be around long into the future and that this first generation of veteran Imagineers may be the first of many long cycles of change. Surely, this is better than imagining that, with their departure, the end is near?

Both timelines have equal chance in occuring, right?

It's technology AND art that makes the best films, but neither works without a story. The Lion King used computer technology, but the hand-drawn 2-d art that it used was stunning. And all of it really worked beyond opening weekend -- all the way to Broadway -- because it had a compelling story.

Great art, well executed, makes the movie, computers or not.

And if you need proof that CGI alone is not the answer, just look at this week's returns for "Valient".... Perhaps itself a good story (don't know), but CGI and "from the makers of 'Shrek'" did not sell it....

Disney movies AND theme parks and resorts have something unique that goes beyond technology. And too much outsourcing, at the cost of seasoned Disney professionals who understand that, will cost the company the culture and product that makes it unique, as seguels and cheap stuff have already started to do.

Some outsourcing is O.K., but loyalty and ownership of the product go a long way in supporting investments that matter... and innovation that fits and enhances the company's legacy.
