More Disney Job Cuts

How many "Disney Employees Laid Off" threads that devolve into economic/political theory shout fests do we need?

"At least one more Ms. Swann."

Some managers are just getting moved around. Our shop is down to 2 managers (it's a large shop and used to have 3, & we'd get a TA in Q1, our busiest quarter). One has been transferred to a resort and one is now going to retire after MANY years of service. These are mid-level people, some of whom came in from the most basic positions to work their way up. Frankly, I think they are shooting themselves in the foot. and I am a stockholder and say the same thing still.

Over the Weekend

I don't know if the layoffs effect quality or not. However over the weekend, Saturday to be specific. We had three attractions and a Monorail break down while we were on or in them. The concern is not that the ride or show broke down, but no one from disney noticed until it was pointed out by a guest. 1 Country Bears, The Piano Bear was pouring Fluid out of his face for half of the show. 2 Carosel of Progress got stuck and we sat through the same scene 5 times befor they unloaded the ride. Canada movie the service lights came on halfway through the movie and stayed on til the end. Monorail Orange Broke down during Morning Rush. I know ride breakdowns are inevitable but the Disney quality used to be monitored a little better, this might be cutbacks in routine upkeep. I also noticed the freshness of the parks was not there, Litter and even Dryrotted or termite damaged wood on the Winnie the Pooh Ride Baseboards. Cutbacks are becoming evident.

I'd love for you to post this exact post over in the Phil Holmes thread as evidence that MK is in horrible shape.

As other Disney vets can attest, the quality in the parks has been slipping for a long time. When you compare things to the early 90s, you'd notice significant differences in upkeep, maintenance, cleanliness, etc. Back in the day, the tiniest things would be addressed - you'd be challenged to find one piece of trash in the parks or one thing out of place inside an attraction.

As long as 5 years ago, I've found restrooms in very poor condition, visible trash and small things out of place or in need of maintenance inside attractions. I understand these things happen - maybe the restroom was just trashed right before I walked into it - but my point is that you see these types of things much more often lately. (I would still say, however, that Disney parks have still been much cleaner and in better condition than other amusement parks (like Universal).

Obviously the concern of all of us is that these layoffs don't affect this quality further.

The other concern is that we don't lose those very special cast members who have been providing "magical moments" on their own before there was an organized program to do it. Over the years these cast members have become friends to us because they would do absolutely anything to make our vacation special. They are a big part of why we keep returning to Disney year after year.

I understand that Disney is a company and that cuts need to be made... so cut those people who view their role at Disney as "just a job" (and perhaps perform the same way) and keep those people who work every day to make the experience special for guests. This applies to everyone from the guy working the popcorn stand on Main Street to the top executives.

Cleanliness and seeing trash in the parks shouldn't be blamed on the lack of CM or their moral.
It should be blamed on patrons who are pigs and don't pick up after there selves!

CM morale is terrible from what I've heard. Plenty of my friends have expressed out right fear for themselves and their friends.

Sir Goofy,

I worked at Jungle yesterday and everyone was so gloomy and so down. Even with the fact that K___Y was one of the ones who got the axe.

 Wow, I never would have thought they would have gotten the boot.

But yea, things aren't good.

I was shocked too. The other three AD/LIB managers that got walking papers were on TA. There was talk of moving one of them to Guest Relations at Epcot where he came from but they decided not to.

M.K. is not and never has been in HORRIBLE shape.
We were just there and i personally thought it was as clean as ever.
We also didnt have any ride issues.
I know there is alot of frustraision concerning "layoffs" but honestly, the parks were in great shape.
I have never seen them any other way.
I think the problem is : some people have nothing better to do except "look" for things to have issues with.
But really, i am floored every time we go as to just how clean everything really is, and well kept.
I have been going for close to 20 years now as an adult (and good memory) unlike being too young to remember and i see no differences in upkeep (it is/always was supreme). Of course, we are having too good of a time to try to find and problems.

You're right. I only work in the park, but what do I know?

Beside the fact that Pirates goes 101 almost once a day. Or that Jungle Cruise needs a lot of TLC. Or that Peter Pan looks horrific.

I'm sorry, you're right. MK is in fine shape.

Sorry to hear that.

Not surprised though.

As to cutbacks becoming evident, for many of us regulars (who also visit the other Disney resorts around the world and Uni's and BEC's parks too) they've been evident for a decade (in some cases, longer).

I love the management apologists who say those of us go 'looking' for problems ... frankly, you have to be blind to not see what WDW is now vs what it once was.

It doesn't take very long to get a 'feel' for someone based on what they post.

After all, you're just a disgruntled Disney CM/fanboi with delusions you could run the place ... you probably steal pins from your lanyards when no one is looking too! (do I need a sarcastic winky here!)

Yep, it is in fine shape. Just like always.
Apparently, you forgot that others have opinions also.
We were just there and as stated in my above post, no issues..nor any "looked" for.
If you read alot of "trip reports" on here and other forums, you'd see folks are happy with their trips.
We were. Why do you want to minamalize that?
Its sad that you are so unhappy that you find it odd that others enjoy WDW and find it in excellent shape.

Sure why not? It can't hurt.

I know you are being sarcastic, but I've never had the delusion that I can run that place. I just know that there are many things that need to be done that wouldn't take huge sums of money or time to do. Things like a coat of paint on a ride, or just general up keep.

Where did I say I was unhappy that you enjoyed the place?

Even with all the problems I see in the parks I love it every time I'm there. I'm just embarrassed sometimes at the state of my place of employment, and how much the standards of upkeep have fallen since I visited as a kid.

Spoken like the true doom and gloomer that you are.
We enjoy WDW and life in general.
It isnt too difficult, life really is great.
You, just seem to be a miserable person who likes to try to "spread misery equally". Sorry, i wont participate.
We just got back from WDW and will go back in 2011 and have a great time all over again....sadly, that will disappoint you.
Actually, we were also in D.L. in 2006, i found it as good as ever also. Never been to "euro Disney" as i still call it.

Steve is reporting today that the MK is once again adding parades and extending hours at the MK. They are also reopening the DH as a TS buffet for the expected surge in crowds expected soon. And all this during what we are told is the worst economy since the depression and a theme park that we are told is falling apart.

Facts vs. Propaganda. The age in which we live.

The peeps love their shiny Magic Kingdom. That VP must be doing a great job! :D

You can fool some of the people some of the time but you can't fool the WDW guest. They know what they like.

Seriously, jt, how long have you been working for WDW marketing?

Seriously you people talk like I hate Disney and no one is allowed to have fun there. It's honestly the complete opposite. I love Disney, and I love the place I work. And that is why I notice these problems. When I'm working the Jungle Cruise, and hippos aren't working, Elephants aren't moving, and natives aren't attacking, it's freaking embarrassing, and that would NEVER happen back in the day. Never.

And when almost once a day, we get a call for Skippers on break to help evac a 101 Pirates, you better believe we're embarrassed.

And when I visit the park and see sets in Peter Pan looking horrible, and bird crap and dirt covering the TTA track, it's sad. I know how things used to be, and no, the parks re not as in good of shape as they always were.
