News Monster Inc Land Coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios

Rewatched Martin's tribute to MV3D and now I'm conflicted on this whole thing. On one hand I want Monsters to get the most space possible and not shoehorned into AC, but I don't want to lose Muppets, it's just so cute

As long as they aren’t worried about moving some random people’s offices (which they definitely should not be) then the AC location has a lot more space. MC is shoehorned in between Galaxy‘s Edge and Star Tours. The path in front is already a log jam with people going through the tunnel to SWGE. They could go backwards into backstage and parking lot but no guarantee they will want to.

I may be behind on rumors but I thought some insider here said they heard MI at AC would likely have a show along with the door coaster and play area but in MC there may not be a show. It seemed like the AC location would be a better version of MI and there was also talk of connecting back to RnRC area creating a loop instead of 2 dead ends that exist today. Seems much better for flow. It will also cost more to build in AC area so that could be a factor.

Magic kingdom hasn’t been packed…wall to wall 10/10 Crowds in about 5 years.

There’s an issue and we continually see stupid excuses to splain it away
According to Touring Plans / @lentesta 's site, MK has been a 10/10 on:

1. 2/20/2024
2. 4/4/2024
3. 3/25/2024
4. 1/3/2024
5. 1/2/2024
6. 12/29/2023
7. 12/20/2023
8. 12/18/2023
9. 11/20/2023
10. 10/11/2023
11.; 11/21/2022
12. 3/24/2022
13. 2/28/2022
14. 2/22/2022
15. 2/21/2022
16. 2/20/2022
17; 2/18/2022
18. 2/9/2022
19. 2/7/2022
20. 1/24/2022
21. 12/24/2021

No argument from me that attendance is down across WDW as a whole, and especially resort occupancy is way down, but MK still remains quite popular. If I had included crowd level 9 days in that mix, there would have been quite a bit more.

I was there during some of those days. Not even close to “packed”

I love Len and respect his data…but It is based on ride wait times

So a bit of a gap in the metrics there

This isn’t relevant to our discussion but they did it again random bad news drop. I don’t really care about the trolley but it was nice.

I can’t help but feel Muppets could be done in the exact same way.

I believe the Red Car Trolleys were the only new domestic ride addition under Iger that wasn't tied to an IP.

What if the announcement is that Muppet*Vision is closing to make way for Monstropolis, but the Muppets are taking over the Imagination pavilion and pushing Figment to be nothing more than a Festival host?
I have no doubt that they would do something like this. TWDC under Iger and his IP mandate has proven that anything not attached to one of its non-park media properties is at their mercy. I’ve said this multiple times, nothing at these parks is safe if it isn’t based on a movie or TV show. These parks will look very, very different in 10-15 years…

Thank you!

Wait times are also a function of staffing and ride vehicles. One of the reasons why we started counting guests exiting a ride back in 2017 was that we suspected crowds and wait times were mismatched.

Just as one example, Space Mountain was running at under 1,200 riders/hour from 11 a.m. on Wednesday, 15 February 2017. The posted wait times for that hour ranged from 60 to 80 minutes. No downtime was observed.

Space Mountain seems to average around 1,600 guests per hour, so this was a 25% cut in capacity.

The highest hourly capacity we've ever measured at Space is 1,827, on 28 March 2018 starting at 11:45 a.m. Or, more than 50% more that that day in 2017.

Hate to break it to you but they do it because it that's what people like. As much as I enjoy the classic non-IP stuff even still in Paris I was delighted seeing Marvel stuff. I'd prefer a blend but the parks cost a ton to run and what pays for that is getting seats on rides, a poster with Iron Man brings in more butts than a generic Western themed ride in an era where that's not that popular.

OG Disneyland was splashed with corporate names and overlays, I'm not sure that's much better and certainly isn't better imo.

Fact is GP likes IP, Disney's just making the sound financial move which is hard to blame if that's what appeals most to that majority by volume of their audience. People talk on here about how great Universal is yet compatible when Disney use IPs, it's just rose tinted specs all around.

I never doubt data science and that is what you do…but there is a lot of fan misconception on crowds in the current genie world

For example: today Disney parks released their after house announcement on face book and the reactions were “thank god, the parks are MOBBED”

Now those could be bots from TWDC…

Or more likely Orlandites who eat dust flakes for breakfast.

So do I believe a 100% PR Crafted financial report where they said “attendance is softening and we expect that to continue into 2025”?

(Not to mention my own eyes and experience)

Or some ex CPs living in BVL?

Tough call
