MM+ Why we can't have nice things.

Query that is actually somewhat related to the topic at hand - Is there any indication that fastpass plus has brought the capacity issues of DHS and DAK, especially, into such glaring relief that there will be some attempts to add attractions at a faster pace? I know that @WDW1974 noted that during the Iger GF visit a few months back that the suits were more than aware of the issues at capacity problem. However, that was before all these MM+ costs too much, investment will not be recouped, we're all screwed stories.

Actually, I work for Legoland and I'm trying to bring the whole of the Disney empire down through posts on this message board.
Legoland? Everybody knows they're nothing compared to Fun Spot(tm) THEY'RE HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE!!!! Clearly Fun Spot(tm) is the best Central Florida attraction. :)

Someone might have shown up at TSM at 10 AM and gotten an 8 PM FP return time. Are they really going to still be in the park 10 hours later to use it?

Is there any incentive built into he FP+ system to cancel that 8PM return time if you've no intention of using it? If so, one positive thing (for the FP side of the line) would be that FP would again be available to another guest who is willing to stay until 8PM. With the old system, once the ticket was pulled the FP was gone for other guests unless you gave it away. Of course, this would benefit the standby lines, so maybe it's all a wash. In any event, if there is no incentive to cancel and there are no other attractions that interest you (and require a FP and have them available for earlier in the day), I would assume most people would hang on to the return time just in case they decided to stay and take advantage of it.

I see you have taken a toehold in Downtown Disney, what is next, a annexation of Frontierland? How much longer before the Lego tanks are rolling through the lowlands of Fantasyland?

As such, FP+ might (I'm just guessing) have a higher redemption rate than FP. That means potentially more guests in FP+ lines.

I'd wager it does... the psyche behind an 'appointment' will drive up redemption rates at least in the short to near term IMO. Overtime, as people become more accustomed to it, and it looks more and more like 'same old FP' to people.. and people put less 'value' into the reservation.. that might water down in the future.

As I've suggested before, it's difficult to be sure exactly how FP+ ultimately will impact Standby lines because FP+ is designed to alter guest behavior. It really depends on which groups of guests dominate the system, and which groups of guests' behaviors are most modified.

To me.. this is the big question that is hard to predict because it relies upon human behaviors.. will the gain on one side exceed the loss on the other, etc.. will the scale tip. And ultimately one has to think tolerances for Standby waits will change as well when people can't assume FP for the majority of their attractions. And why I've been so against those claiming definitive conclusions on what the net result will be.
Shooting from the hip... I have to think given the current 3 FP+ model... that in the long run more people will be in standby and less FP+ usage. I'm of the belief enough people used FP 'enough' that the 3 FP will result in a net decrease in FP usage. Just MHO. The numbers 8m from now may tell a different story..

Right now, guest behavior is in a state of flux. I would not put too much weight in current Standby line patterns. We need to wait until FP+ is fully rolled and all guests have altered their touring behaviors accordingly.

+1

Or the evolution of the so proclaimed protectors of the sanctity of that whole "we all agree on this point, so what is wrong with you" community thing....
I'm not sure you're grasping the concept of martyrdom. No one really cares that much if you don't agree with them; it's not going to change their minds either way.

But the notion you're being persecuted for them is nothing more than your need to play the supposed victim. Enjoy....

The same could be said for repaving a parking lot, or changing the bus paint scheme, or even having castle icicle lights...but they do it because they "keep moving forward"
This seems to be what you keep missing in all of this. Maintaining facilities, as you note, is just part of doing business. What makes NextGen so problematic outside of operational concerns is that it is in many ways a facility investment intended as something else. Replacing a long neglected parking lot is something nicer for guests but will never morph into a major source of new revenue.

So much of what you've praised could have been done before with system integration and upgrades, but they were delayed and avoided. When it finally came to a time where upgrades and integration could no longer be delayed, it was internally sold as a massive new revenue opportunity. This will have an impact far beyond just the immediate benefits due to poorly estimated costs, poor management and overselling of return on investment. This project was not just about improving experiences, it was to be the new way Disney theme parks make money. Disney has now spent 20 years and billions of dollars to try and avoid building theme park attractions at theme parks.

How is it ridiculous? It is the overriding theme of Disney's theme park strategy since the opening of Euro Disney.

You're telling me Disney has spent 20 years a billions of dollars just to "try and avoid building theme park attractions".

C'mon now....THAT is ridiculous. What a bunch of hogwash or is hogsmeade? lol

And this is why you are being dismissed, because you are clearly hostile towards anything that challenges your notions of Disney parks. Disney's reaction to Euro Disney is well documented, as well as the costs associated with fixing the parks built with the "build just enough" strategy. FastPass and MyMagic+ are both byproducts of that reaction, but that connection is not as widely discussed. So yes, that would be 20 years and billions of dollars.
