MK to get SIX new FP attractions? UGH?!?!

As you know, many people on here don't like to wait to see any finished product or attraction ever. It's fun to speculate and discuss, but I'm amazed at how many people pass judgement on things in their 'infancy'. Same issue with 7DMT, and many other WDW attractions. I'm with you...I like to judge what actually exits. Patience. :)

I agree with you...sort of. To pass a "final judgment" on something, yes, you should wait til you experience the thing yourself. But there is also nothing wrong with making educated guesses... and there is a lot of information on some of the stuff you mentioned. Even the 7DMT ride is not in its "infancy" anymore. If people were just passing judgement on the concept art alone, sure, I'd say wait til there are actual established plans and even construction. BUT! we do have those now. We also have information from Imagineers too. It is much past the infancy stage even if the actual ride itself is far from completion.

It is the same with with NextGen. No, we don't know everything about it but a lot of information has been announced. That breakdown by Rsox is a great read (talks about pros and cons so it's not just a complete bias towards one side or the other) of what is known so far about the new fast pass system, which is a substantial part of NextGen, though, of course not all of it. And you can make some inferences/judgments/educated guesses from that. People do this every day in every walk of life, and Disney World isn't an exception.

I don't mean to offend but this thread appears under the heading of "WDW Parks News and Rumors". So aren't we supposed to be discussing news and rumors, including our opinions about said news and rumors? As you wrote, it is "fun to speculate and discuss" and, IMHO, speculating and discussing includes expressing opinions about "what if" scenarios. Again, sorry if I step on anyone's toes.

How to kill a conversation: the "wait and see" attitude. Don't we love it? It's like saying you can't have an opinion on a movie based on the trailer. There's such a thing as impressions; you can talk to your friends about how bad it's going to be, then go to said movie and be blown away. Similarly, we can exchange opinions on next-gen. Or we can talk about that magical new restroom in fantasyland.
That's putting it mildly. He seemed like a borderline sociopath, with a lot of obsessions, like thinking waiting times for rides would all be drastically lower if not for all the guests in ECVs or with GAC cards, who he thought were all cheaters.

Is that obsessive? I'd consider that factual. o_O

I was under the impression that you'd only be able to reserve a certain amount of FP's ahead of time.

Let's say 4...

They obviously wouldn't let you get FP for the three mountains because it wouldn't spread people out...so they'd set it up like this.

Group 1:
Splash Mountain
Space Mountain
Big Thunder Mountain

Group 2:
Jungle Cruise
Haunted Mansion
Pirates of the Caribbean

Group 3:
Dumbo
Magic Carpets of Aladdin
Astro Orbiter
Mickey's Philharmagic
Mad Tea Party

Group 4:
Peter Pan's Flight
Ariel's Undersea Adventure
It's a Small World
Winnie the Pooh

You get to pick 1 from each group...that way you spread the people out and keep the lines at the major attractions at bay.

I will take Space Mountain, Haunted Mansion, Philharmagic, and Peter Pan's Flight for 500 please. ;) :D

I read on another site that the 2 other "attractions" getting FP might be fireworks and parade viewing areas. The addresses of the 2 attractions are 1220 and 1305B Monorail Way, with Monorail Way being the central Hub. Seems that Disney has been considering adding FP for some time. No facts here, just a rumor I'm passing on from another site.

Yep. I have heard that as well. Just another way they are ruining the park-going experience. Soon you'll need a FP to take Brittney for a MAGICal bowel movement ... but at least Rapunzel will talk to her in the mirror as she washes her hands!

Ole Pal Merfy is a good source. His problem is that he gets emotional from time to time.

I have told him that as well. He could be one of the top go-to WDW experts if he was a bit ... calmer. He doesn't have to be nice. Al Lutz isn't known as being nice and he has helped get huge results and made a name for himself too. It's all in the approach.

How often do you read 1984? Weekly?

I totally agree that it's unnecessary - the current system wasn't broken but it could be improved. It just looks like they're attempting to "improve" too much and the result is going to be a total failure. If this is as catastrophic a change as it could be, it's one that would also result in my limiting my vacations as well.

Here's hoping new management steps in at the 11th hour, sees what's going on, and asks, "What was wrong with building the best attractions on the planet? Why did we give up that idea?"

If you value your privacy and don't think it's an antiquated concept, then you wouldn't have an iPhone. Really just that simple. I once checked my email on my Dad's and I literally can't get the phone to 'release' its death grip on my email (thankfully, it was not on a business account) and what is contained within.

I am very tired of people in our society telling me that since they don't have a problem with giving up their privacy (how many times post-9/11 have you heard the 'since I have nothing to hide'' line? Guess what, I do. Everyone does. My private communications should be just that. I don't need a cloud saving all this valuable online crap until humanity is no longer around!)

As to when Disney gave up the idea of building the best attractions on the planet (in FL at least) I'd say that happened around the late 90s when they realized WDW was far more valuable in the short term as a real estate development, not a resort. That business model is what we have lived under since ... and c'mon what's wrong with 1972-era parades anyway? And you do know that WDW was supposed to be a museum, right?

Priceless... You're worried about "Big Brother"? Trust me, neither you nor I are remotely significant enough for Big Brother to waste any effort or resources on. You can safely remove your tinfoil hat.

Monty, just because you may not be important, don't assume likewise of other Spirits that you don't know at all.

Thanks '74 for posting the rumour (yeah, that's how we spell it in Canada) suggesting which attractions, but for anyone interested, we have a 17 page thread already going about next gen FP. Probably no need to start a new one. :)

http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/...stem-to-begin-guest-testing-this-week.836623/

Thanks, but we didn't have a thread on the news of the permitting for six new FP attractions unless someone recently added it in.

And I do respect the blogger who did the work and put it online and felt it was newsworthy. I'll stay here.

When DLR gets a billion dollar investment they get a state of the art attraction, a new land of d attractions, TLM ride, new theming, state of the art water shows, trolley's, just for added ambiance... WDW gets a billion dollar investent that tracks and monitors you through your entire stay on property, creating a database to try and personalize their attempts to peddle over-priced merch to you and give added FP at attractions that don't need it.

Phhffff. And people say TDO is out of touch. Eat that DLR, and your new rides! We have electronic profiles that monitor our every movement and try to sell us stuff better! Ha!

No... You are only allowed to post your opinion if it is filled with pixie dust.. If you don't like the concept of something, then you must remain quiet on the issue because your opinion does not matter... Don't you know we can only talk about Disney only if it is magical and perfect and everything is awesome???

I really hate the idea of the new fast pass system--I do not want to have to plan my whole day around being in one place at a specific time like that!!! Fast pass right now isn't broken don't fix it!!! Haha

Woaa, when did this happen!? I thought it was the opposite. See what happens when you log off for a few hours.

That's exactly what it's about. Ma and Pa from Nebraska who don't visit the boards will just go ahead and start reserving as many fastpasses as they can, along with purchasing the deluxe dining plan because Disney tells them it's the "best value" while they arrange to stay at an on property room paying the rack rate.

That's the type of guest Disney wants. Not savvy locals or AP holders.

I love this post...I wish we could send it just like that to the execs at Disney and somehow get an actual response out of them regarding this...not that it would have anything useful in the reply, but I'd be wondering how they are sugar-coating it.

If you have to plan all your rides and attractions at certain times, plan your eating at certain times, and reserve your seats for nighttime shows and fireworks, why have a park hopper option? It seems that this will make guests map out their vacation to do one park on one day. I am on the dining plan and we already have minor problems hopping because of reservations. This doesn't make sense to me as I think guests will overcrowd the parks more not being able to hop or have time to go back and nap. It sounds like a checklist of each day for each park that will be on a strict schedule ( because fast pass times are inforced now). I follow time constraints every day at work that are stressful. I'm not sure I wanna spend time on vacation doing that too. Don't get me wrong I map out my day at the parks. Just not to the extent of be at SM at 930, be at HM at 1030, and so on. Not sure if this makes sense but it does to me. Maybe after this trip it's time to take my talents to DLR where you get new rides, unique merch, and non-commando style touring.

Pi$$ing away a billion is a great way to get the BODs attention...

It seems to me that they are perfectly fine with ing off a segment of people who come to WDW in the hope that they can make a profit off this. I think this is gonna back fire in epic proportions. Do they have any idea how ticked people are gonna be when even during slow times of the year POC or HM or IASW would normally be a 5-10 min wait is a 30-40 min wait. They seem to forget they still need some attractions that can push thru large amounts of people during the busiest times. This will kill that. They really are clueless when it comes to this.
