That's the exact reason why I haven't read it yet.

I don't believe you and Michael and this trend thing!
Harry Potter! Hello!
Talk about trends!
What's wrong with reading something just because other people did?

Connor, don't give into trends!

I was hell-bent on never reading it as well just because it was a trend. Then I decided to read i because I wanted to know how the book actually went before I saw the movie.

I couldn't have been more surprised. The book really is amazing and everything that people say about it is true. It's a mistake not reading it because it's a "trend". It's quality reading material.

I discovered Harry Potter way after PoA was released. I needed to do a book report and there was the SS paperback begging to be read. I didn't know what HP was up until that point.

I've yet to read the LotR or watch the movies for that reason.

I haven't read them/watched them because I just flat out don't like Lord of the Rings.

The first movie was alright, but the second totally bored me.

Not my thing.

I hate doing something JUST BECAUSE it's a trend.
If it's something I like, I'll do it.
Besides... I just haven't been able to find the book in the last week, otherwise, I'd have read it. :lookaroun

Well, I know the books came well before Harry Potter, but I feel as the movies have capitalised off of Harry Potter's success. That is why I refuse to even give LotR a second thought.

I actually felt the same way about Harry Potter that I did with The Da Vinci code. I didn't want to read it because it was a trend. I didn't even want to see the movies. But then I was forced to and decided to give the books a try because the movie wasn't all that bad.

I ended up reading the first three books over the course of on week on a farm in West Virginia. I was pretty surprised at how good they were.

I didn't much care for it either.

I love HP! I didn't get into them because they are a trend. I read them (and watch the movies) because I really enjoy them a lot.

I don't think that the LotR trilogy is so popular because of the Harry Potter movies. LotR was written WELL before HP and had a solid fanbase before the HP books were written. I think the LotR movies just sealed the deal for all the Tolkien-heads out there and made even more people want to read the books. It's just coincidence (IMO) that the movies came out at the same time. The LotR movies were all filmed at the same time. They were worked on all three movies as an intertwined set instead of one every few months as with HP. They really are very well-made movies, I just think the story is bad.

I just didn't like the book the first time I read it.
The second time around, I warmed up to HP...

Is the fact that you were on a farm in WV important and/or relevant at all? :lookaroun
