I stole a page of paper from the Macro Free Response booklet today :lookaroun I undid the staples and pulled it out, then redid the staples. You could hardly even tell that I did it.
I was bored :lookaroun

I thought it was really good. The first two thirds were absolutely RIVETING. Dan Brown is a mastermind at connecting things. There are some connections that I wouldn't ever have thought could be made, yet he made them.
I thought the last third slowed down a bit, but was still good.
IMO, the Opus Dei storyline, though good and pretty critical, was still a little bit excessive. I don't really see why Aringarosa was even included in the plot. And I hate that name. I cringed everytime I read it. It is not a fun word to read.
There were some parts that I found incongruous, like I remember thinking at one point that Langdon was contradicting himself. Somewhere around when they were first in Teabing's house. But no one can be perfect.
Overall, it was excellent. The story is great, the rising action is INCREDIBLE. It's possibly the most suspenseful book I've ever read and made me want to throw it at my wall after every chapter for opening more doors, but not quite enough.
And, as with most books I read, the ending kind of struck a chord with me. I just wanted it to go on more. I liked the part with Sophie at the end, that was fitting. But the part with Langdon in the epilogue should have kept going, unless Brown plans on writing a sequel...

Anyway, I agree with your observations.
Aringarosa is a mouthful and made me thing of Ring-around-the-rosy everytime I read it!
It does slow down a bit, but I think that's to stop us from killing ourselves when it's over! I did not want it to end, but at the same time I couldn't wait to see what happens!
There is a sequel in the works I hear!
I just felt it really presented some food for thought.
It just seemed to make sense to me.
