microsoft dropping windows xp

Off topic a bit but MSFT stock is dropping like a stone today PC sales are way down and Win 8 has a played a part in that. Get ready for the new Xbox 720 from what I know about it, Xbox 720 will be MSFT's next flop. There are some MS fans out there but Win 8 is a solution looking for a problem. Win 8 is a phone/tablet OS.

how can Windows 8 be "blamed for the biggest PC shipment plunge ever"? Wouldn't it be because of all the different options these days to the pc like tablets, smartphones, etc....but they point the finger at operating system software as the ...cause? strange - Windows 8 provides users with an operating system for the pc AND for a touch screen interface and in my opinion is the best windows OS to date. Just because I own a tablet and a smartphone and haven't purchased a desktop/laptop in awhile doesn't mean Windows 8 is the reason. Couldn't you just as easy headline and blame apple or google for providing good tablets as the cause?

If I were MIcrosoft I'd be coming after them on this headline which is affecting stock price. I've noticed to on the foxnews website that they consistantly post articles pro-apple and against microsoft. The one on there at the moment (which came after this one about windows 8) says something about the worst technology flops and the image is the microsoft CEO with their logo in the background.

I love my Apple products.

Here's what I had to do to make it work perfectly: Plug it in.

Ta-Da!

No calling, no paying for stuff, no downloading, no support. No "uninstall and reinstall". Never needed it.

I am so glad I got rid of Windows. No problems since. :)

And maybe it isn't perfect. And maybe (likely) I use it because because I don't know a lot about computers. Don't care! It works!

So you all go on ahead and say how dumb we Apple users are while you fix stuff, wait for updates, tweak things, help each other, etc. I'll stick to being blissfully ignorant and use something that always works.

Love Apple. It costs more, but it's worth every penny.

ahhhh and here you go... you must like drinking the kool-aid.

I personally have an iPhone and believe it or not have had problems with it. My first one the button (at the top) to turn on/off the screen broke, my second (my new iPhone 5) locks up and more apps crash now than did on my iPhone 4.

at my place of employment... the business/sales people want iPads... the techy/IT guys want surface pros and in some cases even android tablets over iLimitMe I mean iPads...go figure

So how would you do it "right"
newfs /dev/hda1 ;)

In all seriousness, I won't get into a MS vs. AAPL argument, but there's a lot to be said for Unix underpinnings (Linux also applies). It's a proven, robust OS. You can run whatever GUI you want on top of that, be it "Windowsish" or "Macish." MS was on the right track with XP/NT and then they went nuts. Windows 7 is okay.

While I am still new at linux, it has a learning curve. Apple OS is a much better and stable platform than windows. I think windows 2000 pro was the pinnacle of windows platforms. I ran it for 10 years, no hiccups, no crashes. Windows Vista, Windows 7 both stink. I have no desire to ever use Windows 8. I will just keep on using linux and learning as I go.

Go look up Chrome book numbers. Brand new product and it's sales are ramping right up. The market for laptops and desktops is not dead a tablet simply can't do what a laptop can. I would bet heavily that if Google comes out with a full on desk top OS it would fly off the shelves. Also you assume one is taking the place of the other and that usually isn't the case. I have a desktop for work and a laptop for non work stuff. That won't change any time soon.

Chromebook is also significantly cheaper than the average laptop. And also...I have seen (but can't confirm so won't use it as any sort of point) reports of them also having alarmingly high RETURN rates as well.

Vista! That is when I left Microsoft! I had been such a fan, too. Always liked them so much and was so grateful for Windows, which was what really allowed me to start using computers...it was so much easier.

But had to give up on them and jump ship. Apple was even more easy.

Vista was an abortion. There is no spinning that. Windows 7 is what Vista should have been.

Weird that no one has mentioned this but I think they are closing the parks because of this.
Hands down to the best post of the week I can't stop laughing.

Anyways, I thought Microsoft dropped support for XP a longtime ago and besides we know Disney has their own program to operate their parks to fit their needs.
