Actually, there is a steel shortage in the United States, but I seriously doubt that this is affecting the construction in DCA.

p.s. A friend of mine, who is not a Disney freak, just returned from DCA. He asked me how anyone could have approved the construction on "that place"!

I dont see a steal shortage slowing Disney!

What did he not like about it? DCA has 3 awesome thrill rides, not to mention Soarin, an awesome parade, tons of other great rides, good theming, and awesome atmosphere! I don't see what there's not to like!

Mickey has left Mickey Avenue. The marquee has been stripped and he's not listed anywhere on the Times Guide even.

Other then that, just a bunch of photos of Toy Story Mania construction photos on the way :)

Wow, that happened a lot sooner then I thought it would. I thought Mickey still had a few days.

The DCA version is `taking so long` due to it being interwoven between the supports and foundations of Cal' Screamin' - one wrong move with an I beam or piece of machinery and the park could have one less E Ride.

And God knows it needs every one it can get.

By the way -- just to clarify here, Merf, you're talking about the Mickey Meet-N-Greet being gone -- NOT that the area's name has changed from mickey Avenue. Correct?

The official opening for the MGM incarnation is still 'early 2008' correct? Judging by current construction, I wouldn't be surprised if it opens by this Christmas. Might help spread the holiday crowds more evenly across the four parks.

One less...or one more? Hmmmm...

You basically just have to consider DCA another "land" or addition to DL itself, in my opinion. Considered as a whole with DL, it is a lot of fun and adds something. But with DL it would be a hard sell.

All you have (probably) seen is the outside construction. They still have a ton of work to do inside: construction, installation of ride elements (track, vehicles, scenes, etc.), testing.... Trust me, after being backstage and seeing what they are still doing to the inside, it won't be opening early or any time soon.

Entertainment recently had a new bid......everyone in the department chooses where they will be for the next six months. The new assignments started a couple of weeks ago. The last day of the old bid was the last day of Sorcerer Mickey on Mickey Ave (AKA VIP Mickey).

they have just filed to begin construction on the inside to install the track, ride vehicles, and theming. More than likely, we are looking at a Spring 2008 grand opening. May if I had to guess. We may very well see soft openings by spring break season.

I went a couple of years ago and enjoyed it too. It certainly pales compares to Disney's usual quality, but you can still really enjoy the place for what it is.....A few Disney quality adventures without a coherent theme. I felt like I never really went anywhere. But it was still a fun place to visit. Miceage rumors have the place really improving

That could also describe the Disney-MGM Studios...:lookaroun

except for the bit about rumors having the place really improving...rumors for MGM, thus far, call for it to continue to stagnate. I'm sure Mickey Ave. will be rethemed to fit the new ride, but it sounds to me like that will only serve to make this park even less coherent.

The inside of the MGM version is currently looking exactly like those someone posted from DCA. So really...... they have a long way to go. I heard from a source (who may have been exaggerating) that Mickey Avenue may be closed longer than "into the holidays" and into next year.

The facade to Toy Story Mania will be themed to resemble the actual Pixar studio campus in Emeryville, CA.
The facade to this attraction will be themed to resemble a 'real working animation studio' that created the characters that will host the attraction within- in a theme park that is supposed to celebrate Showbusiness- film,tv,radio, broadway, and animation.
The rest of the street is rumored to get a makeover that will match, thus changing the buildings from looking like blank, unthemed, industrial sound stages to something with detailed architecture that will celebrate the studio that created these world famous characters.
Sure seems like a more proper fit for the true theme of "The Studios" park to me than anything it has truly received in the last several years.
