Miceage Update 12/1/2015

I don't understand why. Who cares which park is on top is you own all of them?

Profit margin is higher per guest in Florida. Captive audience versus non.

They need to keep the impression that WDW is the greatest show on Earth. Those resorts need to be kept full so the lie is going to help maintain the status quo. Florida's profit model (built around the resorts first) becomes a liability if the parks aren't "popular".

Now granted, DLR's numbers have a higher percentage of park hoppers than what a Orlando park would see; but, real guest to real guest - the last few years have demonstrated the shift in the dynamics of US Disney Parks attendance.

DCA 2.0 did everything it needed to do and it's done it so well, the resort is bursting at the seams.

I think this is a bit far-fetched to say. Disneyland is always packed, yeah, but I wouldn't say California Adventure is as well.

Burbank got the 1st and 4th busiest theme parks in their US chain out of DCA 2.0. It has far exceeded ambitions.

Has it created a 50:50 split between the gates? No way that was ever going to happen. That isn't realistic and it wouldn't be possible unless reasons why guests would want to be in DL would start going away. As long as there are still the fan favorites inside the berm, the turnstile spin will happen.

DCA can always absorb more and it's not at capacity; but, DLR itself will never be able to have equality between the parks as long as the Esplanade is only detractor if you have a park hopper. Guests treat a choice between ToT and Space Mountain as less of an burden than a guest confronted with a choice between Test Track and the American Adventure if they have a hopper in their hand.

Crowd flow patterns at the resort will only alter significantly when guests are faced with a significant enough time penalty that staying where you are instead of hopping makes sense.

Agreeing with @JediMasterMatt, my family visited the Disneyland Park in February of this year, enjoying the two parks over 3 days. That experience left us all with such a positive impression that if all factors are close to equal, we would be more likely to return to Disneyland over Walt Disney World until the extensive additions in Florida are complete. We found the two Disneyland Resort parks in February to be very comparable to crowds at Walt Disney World in off-peak travel times so that we enjoyed most if not all of the attractions we set out to experience and felt we received a great value for the time and money we invested in our trip.

Monday April 25th
  • Actual Attendance: Disneyland 36,200 – DCA 28,300
Wednesday April 27th
  • Actual Attendance: Disneyland 35,400 – DCA 26,100
Friday April 29th
  • Actual Attendance: Disneyland 51,600 – DCA 41,200
Sunday May 1st
  • Actual Attendance: Disneyland 52,100 – DCA 40,700
These figures seem to point to signs that the gap in attendance, while still there, is certainly closing.

One part of me wants DCA's footprint expanded, but it doesn't have the same overcrowding in general areas that DL does.

So I guess I'd rather they fix Hollywoodland first.

This would officially mark the end of the DCA redo, everything would have been redone in some way.... Apart from the eventual flattening of Bugs Land.

I also took note they mentioned elements of Tokyos fantasyland specifically in the article. I still can't fathom DL also getting B&TB - is that even fair to MK? Maybe just Frozen + a proper indoor theater is what they mean.
No, no it's not. It's appalling. It's a blatant middle finger to WDW. It's something I hope is announced at next D23 when I could possibly be in attendance. Oh the words that would emanate from the audience............
Spot on.

I believe Disney truly thinks adding a Marvel section to DCA will in some way help Disneyland's crowds after SWL. Don't see that happening, personally.
Especially with what's rumored for Marvel Land. Guardians of the Tower and Captain Americoaster. Yawn. It was done way better here in Florida in 1999.
The Miceage editor just replied in the comments that they don't have more info yet because the plans are not solid enough. But he/she says there is currently "momentum" behind bringing the Tokyo attractions to Anaheim as part of a Fantasyland expansion.
An already great Fantasyland gets even greater. Perfect. We needed something like this too, but no. We get a clone of Mermaid, a cut to bits coaster, a dark ride taken out for a M&G, cardboard play time with Belle, a restaurant, and a Circus over Toontown Fair.

We haven't seen Disney attempt to build a group of Marvel rides yet, but if the meet and greets (specifically the very cheap-looking web for the Spider-Man area) and Marvel HQ are any indication, we might be in bad shape.

Other than temporary meet and greets, what has Disney built recently, or are currently building, or planning to build that hasn't been very well done? Why would you base any indications on a temporary spider web rather than the permanent new lands that have been constructed like Cars land or SWL or Avatar, or even Buena Vista St?

Because those offerings are directly Marvel-related, and so far, they've been fairly cheap. Cars Land, SWL, and Avatar Land are irrelevant, Buena Vista Street. If we do just get these group of rides, it probably won't be in comparison to the actual lands listed above.

So you think Disney will/might build anything Marvel related cheaply?

Sure, that's possible. Disney could build anything on the cheap side. It's not like they haven't done so in the past.

I'm fairly optimistic, but at the same time, nothing has been confirmed and these are still just rumors. From what I've been hearing, I'm not that excited. A re-skinning of an existing attraction and a coaster? Disney can do MUCH better, and they know they can (assuming this is all true). Marvel has more potential than Star Wars (yeah) and if this is the best they can do...

An idea I've had for a while that could potentially work really great for you guys is an Adventure Thru Inner Space type ride with Ant-Man. Playing on both nostalgia and the Marvel license.

I can agree with this. Although, at the same time, I think that back corner sure needs something. If it wasn't for the Animation building, I'd be okay with them getting rid of the entire Hollywood area.

Definitely. That area needs work. I think it says a lot that arguably the most popular attraction in Hollywood Land is the Animation Building. I don't think I've ever seen one negative opinion about the Animation Building. Maybe the Hyperion Theatre as well. It's funny because the actual Hollywood is a mere hour away, at most, and this is what we get. Not to mention Disney itself played a huge role in Hollywood from the 30's on. There's so much potential, but we end up with Monsters Inc. (not saying I don't enjoy that ride, I do, but it's completely out of place).
