Last year after Christmas I bought one of those little 3 foot trees from the local art store (AI Freidmans) that was all decorated and lit. Its so pretty. Red, gold and green (hmm.. a Karma Camelion tree perhaps? ;) ) I bought it for my bedroom, but my mother keeps saying we should just put that on the coffee table and be done with it  Just put up the nativity and my village. So...I held the tree hostage: no 7.5 ft Norwegian Spruce (artificial, of course ;) ) no back breaking 40~man hour Dept 56 village! I won!!! :D

Which village do you put up, Jer? I do Snow Village. LOVE the animated hockey pond! I usually start right after Thanksgiving, but Im going away for a couple of days, so I wont get to start until Sunday :( It should take me most of the week, especially since I will no doubt have some overtime at work as well :(

Snow Village, and I just got the Mickey's Holiday House for North Pole, I'm not gonna get into the whole North Pole Series though... Just the Mickey Stuff... and maybe the KOLD radio station that just came out.... That looks neat! :)

I just spent about 8 hous yesterday putting up my village! It is from Lemax, and I even have a working fountain in the center! I also have running lights I hot glued to my fence, and some lights on the houses....I will have to take some pics and show you all! I also have a stained glass mini village, with only 3 pieces, but it is beautiful! I put it in the bedroom. I tried to sell some of them off in a garage sale earlier this year, and now Mitch says he is glad I didn't, because the pieces are too beautiful!. Hopefully I will have pics by the end of next week....
OH! And we bought the monorail with our additional discount the other day...its under the tree... :xmas:

I ordered my Christmas tree today, along with my box of greenery. I usually order an evergreen "frame" for my door, along with a wreath, but I have this sinking feeling that the painters won't be done before Christmas. It was an incredible day today, and they didn't show.

I even go over to my mother's and put up an artificial tree; I couldn't imagine Christmas without one! (Although we didn't have one one year...never again!)

Jerry, I bought that house, but brought it back! The flyer from the store said $55, so I get it with the little statue, and I get home, look at my charge slip and see they charged me $85! So I go back to the store, and show them and, after getting sent all over the store, they find a manager, who says, "Oh, THAT is a misprint. We put up a disclaimer" Only problem was, there WASNT one there when I bought it. Sooo...I returned it! I havent gotten to another store to get it yet though ;)

I have some pics of my village on my hard drive...maybe I will upload a few..if no one minds :)

When you guys say you no longer use a tree, you mean a REAL tree, right? That's so funny! When I was on the CP, one of my roommates was from Florida, so he went home and brought a plastic tree with some lights and things to put on it. But none of them were satisfied untill they managed to get a branch from a real tree because of the smell! They said it wasn't Christmas without it.

Down here we only use those plastic trees, obviously. We've had a 7' tree for 5 or 6 years now, and it's AMAZING! I love putting that stuff up, but it sure is a to put it back in storage after December...

Ha! $55 is a GREAT deal.. I got mine off eBay for like $70 I think w/ shipping and ins... but no statue :( *pouts* ...lol ;)

Yeah, post your pics! I tried to start a "Post pics of disney x-mas tree" thread the past couple of years, here, but it just never really caught on I guess... But yeah... we should start a thread in digital media... and post pics of our trees and villages! I know once I get all set up, I will :)

No tree means no tree...real or otherwise. In my in laws case they leave for their winter home right after Christmas so its easier and all the grandchildren have trees at home.

*pokes head into thread* Wow...12 pages? LOL and still a week before Thanksgiving!! Nobody can say WE don't have any spirit.

I'm probably going to nag John to get all the Christmas boxes down sometimes this weekend, even though it is a bit early. Next weekend is going to be really busy, and besides that we can pretty much count on a phone call the day after Thanksgiving from John's grandparents: "When are you coming to decorate our house?" It's something we do for them every year but I do like to have our own house done first since by the time we are done with their stuff, we don't even want to TOUCH another decoration. :dazzle:

Plus the last year that they did put up a tree I walked in one day to say "hi" and was handed a large tangled mess of lights that my grandpa had been working on for a little while (and made it worse) and was told to get them undone and on the tree!

HA HA!!! See, that's how it is when we do John's grandparents' house!

*John, Erika, and John's brother have just finished with the lights outside. As they head for the front door, Grandma appears holding large tangled mess*

"Here...I found some more lights!!"

*Bob stifles a string of bad words. With numb fingers, the trio tries to undo the tangled mess. Finally, as frost bite begins to set in, they manage to unravel the lights and drape them over already-lit bushes. As they prepare to go indoors, Grandma appears yet again holding 6 packages of brand new lights*

"Oh, I forgot I bought these on sale last year. Here you go."

*John lets out a barrage of curses under his breath as he, Bob, and Erika can now barely see due to the thin film of frost that has settled over their eyeballs. Finally they finish with the last of the lights and make their way inside*

"Ohhh... You put white lights on the post? I wanted colored ones there."

*John and Bob look at each other with murder in their eyes and head back out to fix the offending light strand. Erika settles back in 1 of 4 La-Z-Boys and puts her feet up.*

I mean, come on-- I'm nice, but I'm not CRAZY!

I see Lil'mermaid forgot to tell ya that she got paid by grandpa to do the tree.

Now another of my favorite Christmas songs (in my best Eartha Kitt voice)

Santa Baby, Just slip a sable under the tree
For me
Been an awful good girl
Santa Baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight

Santa baby, a '54 convertible too
Light blue
I'll wait up for you, dear
Santa baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight

Think of all the fun I've missed
Think of all the fellas that I haven't kissed
Next year I could be just as good
If you'll check off my Christmas list

Santa Baby, I want a yacht and really thats not
Alot
Been an angel all year
Santa Baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight

Santa honey, one little thing I really need
the deed
to a platinum mine
Santa Baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight

Santa cutie, and fill my stocking with a duplex
And checks
sign your 'x' on the line
Santa baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight

Come and trim my Christmas tree
with some decorations bought at Tif-fa-ny
I really do believe in you
Lets see if you believe in me

Santa Baby, forgot to mention one little thing
A ring
I don't mean on the phone
Santa Baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight
Hurry down the chimney tonight
Hurry...tonight

WOO-HOO! Yeah! Christmas is finally arriving! Local station KOOL 105.5 just started their 24/7 marathons of Christmas music. Christmas tree tents are starting to pop up everywhere. And i'm about to go help put up the Christmas lights on the house.

BTW, is it a good idea to swtich to a fake tree? We've been thinking about it, and it sure beats going to Lowes, Home Depot, or the lots looking for the right size tree and opening every single one up. I know there's some really nice ones out there even on stands which make the tree go around. So is it a good idea?

I'm a big fan of the fakes. We have a 7 footer that I think is beautiful. I like being able to put it up/ take it down whenever I want. I've never had a real one so maybe I don't know what I am missing.

We always had a real tree growing up...it magically appeared every Christmas day beautifully decorated and loaded with gifts.

My DH grew up with artificial trees because his dad was a firefighter and had been to too many house fires caused by dried out trees; so this will be my 21st year with an artificial one. A few years ago we invested in a beautiful one...it looks better than some of the real ones I've seen lately. I think they have the advantage over the real ones...can be put up & taken down whenever you get around to it, no need to worry about it getting too dry and no falling needles to worry about. There are so many beautiful ones out there, some even come with the light already on them.(:sohappy: ) I say go for it!

My daughter had an allergic reaction to our real tree one year, so we switched to an artificial one for a couple of years. The problem was storing it over the summer. We don't have any basements to speak of down here (and the ones that do exist are very damp; my neighbors have to pump theirs) and our attics are VERY hot and buggy. Our garage is also damp (it's in a separate building) and is also buggy. I have to store anything I really care about within the air conditioned part of the house, which means our spare room or the garage apartment. I just don't have room to store a tree. I order one by mail, so it's cut fresh and then shipped to me. I arrange for it to come in the middle of December.

Believe it or not, I saw a car with a Christmas tree tied on top today...and it was almost 80 degrees out! The lots will start springing up the day after Thanksgiving, so the trees will be sitting out in the heat and sun for weeks. Talk about a fire hazard!
