Well... I am putting up my tree after turkey day some time....
(and my monorail, and alll my disney ornaments, and my Dept 56 village... The list goes on! )

Speaking of which.... I bought some really cool bubble lights last year at Target ( I Loved the bubble lights when I was a kid).
BUT, the lights dont seem to want to start bubbling, unless I coax them to... which gets to be a pain after a few weeks.

Anyone know where I can get some quality large bubble lights (on a string... for the tree) That dont need me to shake them every night to get them started...lol

Thanks :)

Are these the type you want? Christopher Radko bought the rights to these...the best IMHO...We have an outlet store locally and I know they were cheaper there last year. These were the kind we had waaaaay back in the 60's when I was growing up. (my brother still has them & they still work)

Thanks tigsmom :)

I have about 1/3 of my outdoor lights done! :sohappy: Clark Griswald pfffffft! LOL! Nah, not that bad. Now I am trying to decide what to do inside. My tree is "themed" and i"m ready for a change. Last few years it has been "Shades of Green" :lookaroun but I think I'll go with traditional red and green now. :) Yay for shopping!

Has anyone heard that Christmas song about the little poor boy who can't afford to buy shoes for his dying mother? That is like the saddest Christmas song EVER! I'm literally in tears everytime I hear it. I actually try to avoid it but when it comes on the radio and I try changing stations, I feel guilty about it and go back. :(

It's just make you really think about those less fortunate. I'm gonna try to donate more stuff this Christmas. How bout you guys? I remember a couple winters ago, it was snowing and I had just walked out of a store. A nice, well-mannered man was standing there and he said "Nice weather we're having, huh?". I just chuckled and said "Yeah." We got into a conversation about everyday stuff. Then he asked me if I believe we should help the poor and homeless. I said we should. Then he goes, "That's good, because I'm homeless." That just caught me like so off guard. He said him and his kids just lost their house and have no where to go. He asked me if he could have 20 dollars to help find a place to stay. I didn't know what to say or do, I was just so surprised. I told him "I'm sorry" and left him. I didn't know how to react. I just felt like the worst person in the world. I don't know if he was telling the truth, he may have just wanted drug money or something. But he didn't seem like a druggie, he was a nice man. I look back and still feel horrible about it. I've encountered tons of homeless people, but never like that before. You know, if I could do it over, I should have just given him some money. It's just stuff like that that make you think about those less fortunate than you. :(

Sir, I'd like to buy these shoes... for my mamma please...

Which village do you put up, Jer? I do Snow Village. LOVE the animated hockey pond! I usually start right after Thanksgiving, but Im going away for a couple of days, so I wont get to start until Sunday :( It should take me most of the week, especially since I will no doubt have some overtime at work as well :(

Christopher Radko bought the Shiny Bright ornaments too. I saw them for the first time a couple of years ago at Nordstrom. I laughed because we have had the same ornaments in the same boxes for over 40 years! Guess ours are antiques! Of course, the prices are still on the boxes and they are obscene amounts like $2.50 and a whopping $4.00 for the really reall big ornaments! Nothing like they cost today :lookaroun

Lisa, there is a Christopher Radko outlet in Woodbury Commons! They are open all year long. I got some really beautiful ornaments last year. (and the prices were very reasonable) We have many of the same ornaments (in their boxes) that my parents used every year. I even have some similar to his that my grandparents brought from Poland!

Ooohh! They must be beautiful!

We had sooooo many of the great big glass ornaments when I was a kid. My parents bought them down on Arthur Avenue in the market when they first got married. Then my cat climbed the tree...

Before she sold the house, my grandmother had decided she had had quite enough of those ornament boxes and was going to thow the old glass ornaments out. She had stuff going back to when SHE was first married! So she called my mother and told her if we wanted them to come get them or they were out with the morning trash. When I pulled up at the curb, she was standing there with green garbage bags filled with ornaments! She was all ready to toss them!

Does anyone have "nontraditonal" decorations?

My parents have gotten less gung-ho about Christmas as of late. We don't have a tree anymore. :( Instead we use a tall houseplant. That's our tree. We put a red cloth under it and the gifts there. We still hang ornaments and lights on it though. But only light ones, anything heavy is not good for the plant. Hehe. We have a star on top of it attached to a pole. :)

Other stuff we still do though. We attach Christmas cards on the walls, stockings over the fireplace, lights on the front window, a wreath on the door, and a navity scene. My dad always puts a whole box of lights around the navity scene, looks like Jesus was born in Vegas, hehe. In my room, I have a mini 1 ft plastic tree sitting on my desk. :) Oh well, it's something at least. :xmas:

My inlaws don't have a tree anymore...they use an animated Sants that climbs up & down a ladder with lights...as if he were decorating. Its just not the same. :(

We are tradition all the way, as a matter of fact my husband is outside stringing the lights around the edge of the house. (better to do it when its 63 degrees than 23 degrees. )
I even decorate the tree with ornaments that were owned by my parents & grandparents as well as my in laws. Tradition :D
