McGuire and Raimi sook to be out and Spidey 4 dead!

It was the best 15 minutes of the movie imo... plus he probably would of been the 4th film's main villain.

He would not have been in the 4th film.

There was a Venom film in development. I would be surprised if it ever gets made.

Raimi's choice of villain for the 4th film was the same as his choice of villain for the third. He wanted the Vulture. And apparently he had been in talks with John Malcovich to play the role.

But that's moot. It's not going to happen now. Instead, we'll get a retread of the first film + unnecessary "grit" to match the Dark Knight. And Sony can save money on salaries.

I thought Marvel already ruined Venom when they gave him his own book.

Lethal Protector...

*Shudders*

I think rebooting Spidey will ruin what they have created. What is the sense in denying everything that is already there. Everyone already has their image of what the franchise should be. Some may not agree with the previous casting but a majority of people see Tobey Maguire as Spiderman. I don't think much good can come from doing this. They should have just had a better focus at making what they had better. I am disappointed, I liked the movies.

I'm sure people were saying the same thing when Batman was rebooted. Look how that turned out.

Except for the fact that he died...

Marvel in the 90s *shudder* So much chrome!

To be fair, this isn't exactly apples to apples with Batman Begins. One, Batman and Robin killed the Batman franchise. Killed it dead. While Spidey 3 was not well-received, the Spider-man franchise still had life in it. People were willing to forgive and forget as long as Spider-man 4 was a return to form.

Also, the Batman origin had never really been told. We'd seen it in flashback several times. But there had never been a film devoted to the origin story. The first Spider-man film was exactly that. And this new reboot looks to cover a lot of the same ground.

If they are going to do a reboot, it should be a soft reboot like the Hulk. Don't retell the origin. Just start new Spider-man stories with a new cast and director. We all know he got bit by a spider. We don't need to see it again.

I agree. Also, maybe hold off on Green Goblin. Give Spidey someone a bit more obscure to go up against in the first film (Scorpion, Lizard, Electro, Vulture, etc), and hold off his greatest foe for the future, just as Batman did with the Joker.

Agreed. (The should hold off on Green Goblin until they figure out how to do a proper mask anyway. Maybe motion capture?)

Spidey has the second best rogues gallery in comics (with all due respect to the Flash who is a close third). They should dig a little deeper. Someone like Kraven the Hunter would be interesting. And you could throw in someone like Rhino or Mysterio in the same way Scarecrow was used in Batman Begins.

My biggest request of the reboot: Don't make it all about Pete and MJ. You've got a chance to make Peter's love life as complicated as it is in the comics. Don't ordain MJ as his one true love during the opening credit this time.

Agreed, although I think Spidey has the best rogues.;)

Personally, I'd be fine with no MJ at all. I've always been more of a Gwen fan.:D

I hope they don't go that way. Batman is supposed to be a brooding badass. Peter Parker is supposed to tell jokes and worry about paying the rent.

I'm sure people were saying the same thing when Batman was rebooted. Look how that turned out.

I was thinking that earlier. But there was also nearly 2 decades (and 3 leading actors) between Batman and Batman Begins. Enough time had passed, and enough had changed since the first movie, that pulling the plug just made sense.

Spidey has made three films since 2002(?), all with the same cast and none of them remotely as putrid and franchise-destroying as Batman and Robin. (Batman Forever, maybe...but like people are saying about SM3, BF was correctable at the time. It was a little kooky, but the characters were still recognizable. After B&R, the only thing to do was kill the beast.)

I agree. It's been too recent that we saw all that jazz on film. It would waste time to do it again.

An argument can be made for Spidey having the best. But in my book, it's no contest. Batman is hands-down the winner for best villains. Spidey ranks a solid #2 and the Flash is a dark horse contender at #3. After that, it gets tricky. People make fun of Superman's villains, but I actually think they are under-rated. Do you count all X-Men villains together? Does Doom automatically put the Fantastic Four on the map? These are probably topics for another forum. :animwink:

I came to comics long after Gwen Stacey died. So I never really got the Gwen Stacey thing. But I'd be happy with anything that didn't center the Spider-verse around MJ. I like MJ, but she shouldn't be the central focus of the Spider-man movie franchise.

Felicia Hardy. Now you're talkin'!

All franchises should stop at 3 films. They become too forced and we get "prequels".

Don't let your Lucas colored glasses ruin everything for you.

Star Wars Legacy (see my avatar) would be a perfect cyberpunkish future trilogy. Especially with emphasis moving to PG 13 on blockbusters. Grow Star Wars up -- an no stepping in ________.

I don't know who would play parts, but Felicia Day should completely be in it.

Actually a Felicia Day MJ wouldn't be so bad at all, now that I think about it...

Sorry Paul...nothing personal. I hated that third movie with the same vehemence that most people around here reserve for Spider-Man 3...which I actually thought was a decent flick.

I never really bit onto the Spiderman movies. I think its because I really didnt think that McGuire did all that good of a job portraying Peter Parker. That being said, I never read the comics and rarely watched the original cartoon series.

The Xmen on the other hand, I frequently read the comics (for a while), watched the cartoon series all the time, and thought they did a great job in the movies with most of the characters.

I loved that cartoon. Very sophisticated programming for a Saturday morning show.

"Kids" TV was really having a good time in the early '90s, with X-Men and Batman: the Animated Series coming on the scene. The WB Superman and Fox Kids Spider-Man shows came around a little later.

Then there was the 80s with the Thundercats and original Transformers.

Don't forget the Tick, Freakazoid, Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain...

And I was in my 20's at the time. So much better than cartoons in the 80s (sorry He-Man fans) or the cartoons of my youth in the 70s.

Sony has already announced it for 2012. In fact, they were doing the reboot before the plug was pulled on Spidey 4.

It's happening.

Uh huh. And just a week ago we were told Spidey 4 was definitely a go.

And Disney just fired Oren Aviv. So the only thing certain in Hollywood these days is that George Lucas will find a way to re-release Star Wars. Other than that it's all guess work.

Ack! The 80s were a wasteland of commercials posing as cartoons. I can't believe there's actually a wave of nostalgia for these shows!

And todays cartoons are not represented well in local retail stores? Give me a break. You cant walk into a toy section anywhere without getting hit with action figures from every popular cartoon out there and some that are not so popular.

Blue Ray Star Wars....when is that going to happen?
