While the idea for GOTG is beyond stupid for ToT it's funny to see that the universal blame is being put on the execs here who are clearly in charge of what's happening (as it should be) rather than on GOTG as a franchise itself.

Just saying the GotG sounds like a terrible idea. First Space Mountain to Hyperspace Mountain, now Tower of Terror to Guardian of Terror.:banghead:

What story could they have possibly come up with that has management on both coasts desiring this overlay? Unless the story aspect on attractions don't matter anymore? Still, this is tacky and pure laziness above all else.

The reason this is a particularly big deal is that ToT is greater than the sum of its parts, in a way that cannot be parsed just by observing its parts. We can't quite verbalize why the experience works so well, because it's holistic. It functions like a symphony, such that if you tweak it, the overall experience can be completely altered, much more than what the tweak viewed in isolation would appear to do.

ToT is a unique attraction that stacks up even after all this time against the best that the competition has created.

@WDW1974 Would the WDW overlay debut along the same timeline as DCA's, i.e., early 2018?

While I hate the idea of losing ToT, it makes absolute sense to trash it if a Marvel land were to take its place. Are guests going to come for one ride thats been around for ever, or come for a whole new well themed land? I don't see disney losing money from trashing Mr. Toad, or Maelstrom.

ToT won't fit in with the parks future theme of acquired companies, unless theres an Old Hollywood land (but really what else would go there? The street performers?)
Ladies and gentlemen, I believe we found the imagineer/exec behind this :mad:

Why am I not surprised at this news? Just another piece of the Disney difference being destroyed. This ride was a modern marvel as far as contemporary theme park rides go. It was a master piece done by ( in its time ) the best creative people in the business. It's a timeless classic. You dont need to know anything about the series Twilight Zone to know this is a great attraction.

There is no vision anymore to where the theme parks are headed. There is no grand master plan. Its as 74 and others have said....the theme parks are nothing more then a ATM for the company. They treat the fans like rubes. There are those that scoff at others who might think......"What would Walt say or do"........well there is one thing we absolutely knew about Walt. He cared. He cared about the fans of the WDC. He cared about his CM's and cared about his guest. This is a total disregard for made Disney parks what they WERE. Its been par for the course for the past decade or so.......so I really am not all that surprised. up yours Iger.

So the real "tower" of terror is in Burbank. Terrifying, for sure. Maybe the attraction in Orlando can be re-themed to look like WDI offices. Witnessing a recreation of this meeting would sure scare the hell out of me.

In all seriousness, I believe what was said earlier: that this rumor was leaked to prevent it from happening. So, pardon me for being the optimist here, but that means there's at least one cognizant individual left at WDI.

I am speechless. Wow.

DH and I just returned from WDW a few weeks ago and due to significant upcoming changes to our lives and finances, we likely will not return for any kind of WDW vacation for the next 3-4 years, if not much later. While part of me is very sad about that as we love going so much, part of me is kind of glad and comfortable with that reality. Comfortable with the fact that we won't be supporting this nonsense.

Have fun, TWDC. Enjoy yourselves. Not sure how you sleep at night.

Its crude representation, but I am trying to imagine what it could look like.
