MARVEL at WDW?

Hey, why wouldnt Universal partner with Warner Bros./Six flags and bring some of the DC characters to the IoA .... and say goodbye to marvel all together... they could but together more shows and rides with the likes of Batman,Superman,Green Lantern since they cant do anything else with Marvel... and Disney will most likely have an avengers ride in DHS ... its gotta happen
Why bother? Universal knows the costs of keeping up Marvel Super Hero Island. There is extra cost in negotiating a new deal and then designing and building a replacement. Warner Bros. would also likely want more than Marvel is currently costing, especially if the deal were to include Batman due to the success of Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.

Six Flags, while still rather broke, would also now likely oppose such a deal. They have removed a lot of the intellectual property that was added in recent years to focus on their "core" brands, DC and Looney Tunes. Better DC attractions and environments in Florida, advertised nationally in all of Six Flags' markets, is not going to be much a help for these efforts.

You have made the classic mistake of not factoring Legoland into your equation...

(sarcasm in case there was any doubt)
Don't forget Blackstone unifying its holdings against Walt Disney World.

All my deractors have their heads buried deep in the sand about Blackstone.

To the above few posters who say I do not have the facts, my information is based on reporting from mainstream sources and has never been refuted by any of the parties involved. Look it up yourselves, I won't do your work for you. Also, any new characters Disney produces under the Marvel banner can be used anywhere they please from what I understand.

OK, I am dropping the subject until there is more news. The rest of you can carry on if you please.

Just throwing out there that Universal is far ahead of any Orlando competition at this point with large projects completed and large projects underway or coming soon in every area of the resort.

They don't need to keep pace with anyone.

Disney, well...

Exactly ... and UNI has some amazing things headed down the pike. Potter Phase II has grown so large that it has outgrown IOA ... it's like in that movie Jaws 'we're going to need a bigger park' :animwink: ... or is that 'we're going to need to borrow some land for an existing one?':D

Disney hasn't raised the bar in any real way attraction wise (in an existing park) in the O-Town market since ToT in 1994. You could make an argument that KS raised the bar when DAK opened in 1998.

But either way, nothing this CENTURY.

And, trust me, the very average Little Mermaid ride sure as hell ain't gonna do it.

Oh, and Spidey and Co are staying put ... but pretty much 97% of all fanbois not named JT know that.:king:

I think it's fair to say Kilimanjaro raised the bar, certainty a unique attraction. They had a huge chance with both the Test Track and EMV ride systems but kind of struck out on content in those attractions.

But for the last 11 years, yes. No bar-raising. Now lots of catch-up.

Yep. I tend to leave KS out since it was the signature attraction of a new park, but it is spectacular in its own way (I am afraid to see it with the Wild Africa Trek crap added on my upcoming visit!)

Look at UNI ... Spidey ... MiB ... Mummy ... HPatFJ ... all raised the bar ... and even things like Simpsons and Cat in the Hat were at least on higher plane than much of what Disney was shoveling in O-Town.

TT is the waste of an amazing ride system. JTTCoTE IS TT ... but you'd never really know it unless you're a fanboi. Just an incredible use of the tech. At EPCOT, that's all you have really ... a ride through a large mostly empty building. What fun ...:snore:

The attraction lineup at the Universal parks save the roller coasters have all been upgrades on things that Disney has done previously - I mean that to praise Universal, not condemn them.

You neglected to mention Disaster which might be my favorite attraction in Universal Studios.

Yep ... I am looking forward to Disaster on my next UNI visit (instead of the disasterous shape of many WDW attractions :D ... oh c'mon, that was soooo easy how could I not take that shot?)

I also greatly enjoy Twister (something about flying cows!), but it isn't going to be around for long ... I hear a big monkey is making a comeback in true Hollywood fashion!:)

I understand your feeling that TT is lacking, but how else could they have really used it in a park like Epcot? Perhaps with the upcoming refurb, it'll show it's greater potential; but with Disney trying to do an edutainment/thrill hybrid, I imagine it would be difficult to do much else. As much as I would like JTTCoTE, it would fit in Epcot (I know that isn't your point).

Bringing back the animatronic or that shallow film from Hollywood?

Okay I'll try this again.

I have no insider info, so this is all deductive reasoning, with a sprinkle of speculation on my part.

From what I am reading all over the forums, the Uni problem notwithstanding, there seems to be a big resistance to the idea of any Marvel IP appearing in or at WDW. I was not around the forums at the time that Marvel was purchased but I am imagining there must have been an outcry, similar to that of the avatar announcement, but perhaps far worse.

At the time of the purchase, from what I could gather ( heard in the news ), the idea behind the purchase was Disney's desire to beef up it's offerings to young males. Be it in the parks or in media.
One ( that would be us ) has to imagine that at the time of the purchase Disney knew of the contract between Marvel, and Uni. Yet they went ahead with the purchase anyhow. Thus one has to imagine that there is some kind of future plan for the Marvel IP within Disney. Disney as a Corp. must think long term, IE 10yrs, 20yrs, 50yrs...

Now does anyone know if the contract between Uni and Marvel is infinite?

I would imagine that it is not, and is subject to renewal or review every XX years. I believe that it is at this XX point in time where the change over will happen. I can not believe that Disney made this purchase simply to sit on it. The way I understood it at the time ( when Marvel was purchased ), the idea was to promote a character via movie or TV, and then bring them ( the successful ones ) into the parks and then ofcourse into the merchandising...

If you look at the Spider-Man movies, currently in the hands of a Sony/Marvel joint project ( vs. the newer movies are stand alone Marvel Studios projects. ). In the case of Spider-Man, extremely successful, so why Reboot the franchise so quickly ( besides all the breakdown in negotiations with the original cast ), maybe there is a time frame before the IP movie rights return to solely Marvel, and Sony wishes to cash in while it can???
So if it is true for the movie, why can it not be true for the theme park attractions?

Now weather or not Marvel is a fit within WDW, that's a whole other debate. But will it, I think so, and I hate to be on the other side of the wave, but I think sooner than many would think.

But like I said at the top, what do I know ... :ROFLOL:

Based on the copy of the agreement available on the SEC's web site the agreement lasts as long as Universal continues to use the Marvel characters:

"III. TERM

Once THE MARVEL UNIVERSE opens within the above time period, the term of this agreement shall continue for so long as a THE MARVEL UNIVERSE shall remain open (and operated consistent with the standards of the next paragraph below) at any Universal Theme Park (allowing for temporary closures for force majeure events or refurbishment/maintenance provided they are being diligently pursued), except for termination for material breach (with written notice and a reasonable opportunity to cure).

Ouch!!! :hammer::hammer:
okay then, that's a long time.

There must be something we do not know, I'm fairly certain I read somewhere that the intent with respect to Marvel, was to slowly add the characters into the Parks. :veryconfu

Oh well I guess, my guess was wrong  ( the sadness is in regards to being wrong, I'm actually indifferent in regards to Marvel being added to the parks, whatever Disney does, I'll take it :) )

We only know that as of now Walt Disney World is off limits. Disneyland should be free and clear. Same for Hong Kong Disneyland Resort and Shanghai Disney Resort. There may be some constraints on Tokyo Disney Resort and Disneyland Paris.

You had me up until Twister - IMO, that should be replaced.

Just wanted to update and bump this thread. The old HRC is now demolished as I announced it would be a few weeks ago.

So, I think this must mean some sort of expansion which makes sense considering Legoland opens in a few days, Sea World is expanding with several new attractions and Disney is developing Avatarland for DAK. Universal will have to keep pace in some way.

So the area I have highlighted in red is what was demolished. How can they fit a whole new land in an area half the size of the E.T Ride?

th_HR-1.png

Also how is filings with the government proof that Seaworld is expanding, but when there is proof of Uni's plans to upgrade spiderman has already happened, you argue they might not go through with it?

Can someone who has time find some violation that he has committed so we can stop this nonsense and have him banned?

There is a huge expansion pad behind and to the north of where the hard rock cafe was that can easily be accessed for a sizable show building. And everybody remotely familiar with the area knows that.

Well we will see soon enough. I hope if they do everything they had planned for Spidey that it is off the charts cool as I don't think the potential for 3D dark rides has yet been realized. It could start a whole new trend and we will see many retrofits everywhere. 3D Haunted Mansion?

And everyone knows Sea World is progressing on some new adds.

PS - I never violate the rules knowingly.

I was just there last week and can attest that Spiderman is in fact being worked on... The animation was much more clear than in previous trips... The 3D was amazing.. The ride was spectacular (pun intended)... And looking great!!! I really can't say that for Hulk though... The ride on that coaster was rough... and not looking up to par in my opinion... The rest of Marvel Super Hero island was looking fantastic though... and the new character costumes and the interaction you can have with them, FABULOUS!!!! I enjoyed my time there immensly....

People are entitled to their opinions no matter how uninformed or crazy they are... I'm not a jt fan or supporter and find his theories nuts most times, but he doesn't break forum rules...

It is my least favorite land at IoA but it has the best theme park attraction ever created. I always feel like I have been dreaming when I step off that ride. And the drop gets me everytime. Sometimes I think ToT is better but if the changes are as well done as you say then perhaps Spiderman has retaken the lead.

Spiderman became my favorite ride the first time I was on it years ago... ToT is great too.. I think I rode ToT 3 times last week LOL... I'm not trying to compare the two though... Just wanted to let you know that work IS being done on Spiderman and the work is making the ride look even better than it previously did...
