Mansion stretch room too frightening for children

I hear Universal has a Halloween program... it's so not scary that people go to Disney's Haunted Mansion for the thrill... Maybe she should try there... and then go back to Disney and tell us the difference between the two.:cautious::cautious::cautious::cautious:
Perfect idea.

I'm sure she would do no research before she goes...it's just PERFECT !!!

Every cloud has a silver lining - This thread has inspired me to protest the obnoxious interactive queue; it doesn't properly prepare one for the DARKNESS that lieth within. It's not the mansion, it's the queue. It made you expect cuddles and Pixar heaven. It's the queue that tricked your daughter!

Tear down that queue! (in a Reagan voice)

Leave everything else alone.

Thanks, Miss Snowflake! You have saved the attraction.

Solution is simple and inevitable. ALL attractions in MK will be re-themed and re-imagined to Olaf.
Imagine...."Olaf's Pirates of the Caribbean" where Olaf gives the redhead a nice warm hug...and you too.
"Olaf's Haunted Mansion" where Olaf and his lil' snowbooger pals dance around a dinner table and give each other a warm hug....and you too.
"Olaf Encounter" where Olaf (in a brightly lit room) dances on your shoulders, breathes daisy smelling breath on you and then gives you a nice warm hug.
" Walt Disney's Enchanted Olaf Room" where Olaf conducts a cute lil' choir of singing snow boogers that is interrupted by your own personal flurry....and a warm hug from Olaf.

No darkness, no fear, no drama, just warm hugs.

I'm sure there is a kid scared of Olaf!

Parents should not need to adjust when visitng a place called Walt Disney World aka a place design for family and children. It is the people who always have to have thrill or scary attractions in order to have fun who need to visit six flags, Universal or busch Garden where those requests can be met. If I take my daughter to those places and she is scared it is not right for me to complain there, as those parks are designed to be age specific and have rides or shows that cater to audience which can handle scares. But disney is not those kind of parks and which is why we love it there. Oh and Disney agrees with me! Have gotten back a email response from last week and they agree and said will continue to provide and improve ride and attractions to accomodate all its guests. Do not believe me? I can foward you the email. and this is the type of service and understanding we have come to expect from Disney which is why we will return for years to come. It is what disney does that no other theme park or company can match. Sorry you do not feel the same way but it is good to know the company itself does not see me as a bad parent for wanting my child to enjoy all ride and attraction the park has to offer.
Once again, as much as I dislike it, I shall be the dissenting voice and begrudgingly admit you are entirely correct.

Disney has one allergy. One guest complaint that gets them in panic mode. And that is 'Disney mom in protective parenting mode'.

Disney absolutely will destroy the entire Mansion to accommodate the princess and princelet crowd. Like they have destroyed most of Fantasyland, Tomorrowland and Future World for the same reason. Every sustained complaint from princess' parents has been rewarded. That is the historical pattern.

Not with one letter, or a single complaint. But with a park marketed as toddler toontown, and a Mansion with a McDonald's Playland for a queue, it is inevitable that more parents will unwittingly take too young children on the Mansion. Until eventually the Mansion's fate will be that of so much of WDW: infantilised, toddlerised, commercialised.

Can you imagine the OP sitting down with her kids to watch "Scarecrow of Romney Marsh" from back in Walt's day? Man, parenting and reality sure ain't what they used to be.

The total darkness and the scream is what makes it classic and great . My 2 year old handled it just fine.as did my 3 year old niece and 5 year old niece. Your daughter needs to not be so fragile. This is a classic segment, that does not need to be messed with. If my two year old was fine and another poste said he 15 month old was fine I think it's your daughters issue and not the attraction. What next turn the lights on in Dinosaur and Pirates? Peter pan is dark are we going to change that, spaceship earth ?
Yeah,If you could make that happen that would be great . For no explainable reason this ride scares the bejebus out of me .

My daughter had herself so worked up while we were waiting on line that by the time we got into the car she was just short of freaking out. We kept telling her she didn't have to ride but she insisted on riding - partly (I think) so she could complain afterwards.. When the doors opened and the car started moving she started screaming and she didn't stop until it was over. As my husband likes to say, "she was going to scream no matter what - those doors could have opened to a beautiful sunset and she was still going to scream". The whole thing was pretty funny to the rest of us. :D

This is great.. I just can't believe the seriousness behind each and every post from the OP. In all seriousness, if they ever drastically changed HM in any way, I would be pretty upset. It's my favorite attraction and even changing the stretching room would be disappointing.

We recently returned from a 11 day Disney trip March 4 - 14. Exhausting but worth every minute of it. yet there are a few things I noticed and am concerned about, mainly the Haunted Mansion stretch room toward the beginning of the attraction. This was the first trip for our only daughter faire age 5. We thought this would be a good age for her first visit as it would be when she would be old enough to remember alot of the magic yet young enough to believe in the magic. One thing that really got her upset and in tears was the opening scene to Haunted Mansion at MagicKingdom. We never expected there would be a few moments of total darkness plus the lightning and scream nearly sent her into a fit. Disney is a place for families with children!!!!! I was appalled at how no cast member told us we probably should not take her into that scene. We spoke to a cast member at the ride exit who smiled to cheer her up, but still that beginning scene needs to either be changed or removed if disney is going to market as a family park for children. The rest of the ride is amazing, as our little princess faire could sit close to mommy and daddy if scared and there was no pitch black darkness. The music was fun and the characters inside the ride were more appropriate for children during most of the scenes. The beginning however really disturbed her and made her not wanting to ride too much more that day as she was still in shock of the total darkness. The majority of our vacation was great besides that one moment of terror in my daughters eyes. Please consider an update or change in the stretch room, maybe just to remove the total darkness to take into consideration the emotions and vulnerability of the child. When older she will learn to appreciate the ride for what it is as a classic.
My DD was 5 the first time we took her through the stretching room. We always bypassed it before just because it was intense. We didn't want to taint the whole attraction over that part of it. The thing is the intensity is the idiots who scream and yell when the lights go out, not the ride itself.
