You are sooo right - everybody has a right to be afraid of whatever...whenever. But the world does not change for you!! You have to protect your self. For example - I will make a confession here...I am 53 years old, I have three degrees, but still I am terrified of RUBBER BUGS!! Yep - I am one of the weenies that covers her eyes in "Bugs Life". I have no fear of the real thing, after all I can smack those with a spatula and they die!! but those RUBBER ones!!
You smack them and they won't die,
you smack them and they won't squish,
they are just there and they wiggle
and they taunt you and
they just bounce at you.
They stick to your clothes
and they get in your hair...YeeeAhhhh!!! - sorry
obviously your parents coddled you ;)
I can't stand snakes....I freeze up. I can't see on tv, behind glass, and lord help us all if it's not enclosed and a happen upon a garter snake. I guess my parents Didn't raise me right either.

I just stand outside at most reptile houses or walk away CRAZY fast when I see one.

You would have had a panic attack at my house... a few weeks ago we found a baby rattle snake in our garage! It was scary yet fascinating. And, his little rattler was going!

I think the CM's being criticised for not warning your daughter before probably thought you'd taken responsibility for your daughter as you were taking her into a 'Haunted Mansion'? Surely the word 'Haunted' implied there may be darkness, that's what Haunted Houses usually entail. That considered why should the CM's take responsibility for your child, they probably and correctly assumed that if you had concerns then you'd question these things yourself rather than take chances. The Magic Kingdom contains many attractions and any one could scare a child in a variety of ways depending on that particular child's fears. The one with 'Haunted' in the title probably gives the most warning to all and really there's very little excuse to not question beforehand what is inside if you have a child of 5 who may be scared.

What the...? It's like saying Space Mountain should be changed so I can take on my 10-month old.
Not EVERY attraction is going to be catered for everyone. Nor will they work for every age. On the other hand, some 3 year olds get scared by certain things and some others do not. That's all there is to it.

Have kids...or Adults that frighten easily? Well that's up to you to decide what they or your own can handle. Look into this stuff beforehand. We live in a time where practically everything is at your fingertips. I could take a POV of almost every attraction in the Parks right now on yotuube, I'm sure.

IMO parents need to adjust not the park.
Parents should not need to adjust when visitng a place called Walt Disney World aka a place design for family and children. It is the people who always have to have thrill or scary attractions in order to have fun who need to visit six flags, Universal or busch Garden where those requests can be met. If I take my daughter to those places and she is scared it is not right for me to complain there, as those parks are designed to be age specific and have rides or shows that cater to audience which can handle scares. But disney is not those kind of parks and which is why we love it there. Oh and Disney agrees with me! Have gotten back a email response from last week and they agree and said will continue to provide and improve ride and attractions to accomodate all its guests. Do not believe me? I can foward you the email. and this is the type of service and understanding we have come to expect from Disney which is why we will return for years to come. It is what disney does that no other theme park or company can match. Sorry you do not feel the same way but it is good to know the company itself does not see me as a bad parent for wanting my child to enjoy all ride and attraction the park has to offer.

Oh honey, do you not realize that is a form email they sent you. That is what they send out to everyone. They aren't changing a thing.

You got a form letter and they have no intentions of changing The Haunted Mansion to accommodate your little snowflake.

This whole thread is a riot. :hilarious:

They're not changing the ride. You're not a bad parent. Everyone wins. Yay....

You do realize it was the guy named Walt Disney who wanted a spook house and pretty much thought scaring children was important, right?

Again, you do realize that different things scare different people right?

My daughter-scared of Pooh and friends and Bugs Life. She LOVED THE HECK outta Thunder Mountain and Test Track which scare other kids.

What are your thoughts about height requirements then?!?

Disney does not "agree" with you. They sent you a form letter to shut you up so you'd come back and keep spending your money thinking they truly care about you. Seemingly from your response, you bought it. If you really think this, I respectfully suggest you seek professional intervention. They aren't dumbing down HM, or any other ride for that matter, nor should they. You, like any one of us, are nothing more than a dollar to them.
