First thing I want to know is, "is the ride finally show-quality?" It was already much improved in May, so I'm optimistic.

Not sure if this has any relation to the refurb, but both the hair wrap station and ring carver station near POTC are leaving in a few weeks.

Here he is (or was)-

Though keep in mind that the above pic has poor lighting and the skull was not this goofy looking when actually riding with proper show lighting. I assume it was taken via flash, which nullfied the dark show lighting and makes the skull look more goofy than it really was. I've always really liked the Disneyland variants of the skull you linked to, though I admit the absence of the red background drapery was more appropriate for a cave setting. Martin's tribute video of the pre-Sparrow version of the ride shows a moderately more accurate portrayal of the WDW skull, you can see that the eyeball isn't very visible (go to about 18:44 to see the skull)-

Goodness, yes. SO much spookier and more thematic than a silly mist projection that's always blurry.

Actually, a skull and crossbones mist projection would be much better than the Davy Jones/Blackbeard projections, but that wouldn't be synergetic enough

I've heard that we're all going to be pleasantly surprised with the quality of the refurb.....so I'm really looking forward to seeing it in October.
