One Little Spark...
Absolutely agree. They really just need to ignore the uproar that is created by a closed attraction. I'm not being sarcastic, I'm being truthful. They should, but, the chances of that happening are slim to none.
Again, makes me wonder if they couldn't do it as 3 or 4 smaller outages throughout the year, as opposed to one really long outage every 3-4 years.

Horizons had a complete Omnimax projector on permement hire in storage in the projection room in case one of the other two broke and couldnt be fixed easily.

Not to mention the attraction would shut down if one wasn't operating.

That's what standards used to mean.

Today we have life expired parts in Living with the Land. Not almost expired. Broken.
And I agree, however, there are a lot more attractions now then there was when Horizons was built and planned. The Curse of Size is one of the major factors that even Walt didn't think about. He didn't think about it because what we see now is not what he envisioned. I've said it before so there is no problem with saying it again... There isn't enough money in the entire world that would make me want to be middle management in the maintenance department.

Just as a side note, the Omnimax portion of Horizons was also a MAJOR part of the attraction. The broken Prairie Dogs in Living are not as high a priority as the Omnimax in Horizons in the terms of obvious importance. Also you are correct, Horizons would have had to be shut down because a crucial part of the attractions would be missing. I do think that they should fix those things and they have really let things go to the point that it will take some time to catch up. It won't happen overnight, in the meantime a crucial human organizational need will naturally kick in. It's called prioritize.

They could I suppose. It might be that it would hit a larger cross section of guest because you can't close everything down during the now non-existent slow season, so a lot would have to be closed every year during high season. Could be six of one, half dozen of the other. Not to mention that knowledgeable, trained and dependable maintenance people don't just float in on a stream of Pixie Dust.

Indeed. But as we know, Ellen's Energy ran recently with a preshow projector broken and a huge gap in the image.

Just for grins and giggles I'll throw this in here... at what point did Ellen become a major attraction in the last 10 years?

No excuses though, that should not have happened. Someone with absolutely no understanding of show at all, was making the decision to run it that way it was. I certainly hope it wasn't a front line CM that decided it didn't matter and just let it go. Hard to know exactly what happened. Does anyone know if it was that way for a long time or was it, once again, a moment in time issue, being fixed as they spoke? That information is as important, if not more important then the actual breakdown. I don't know the answer to that, I wasn't there perhaps others were there that had the opportunity to see if it was ongoing or a temporary glitch.

What really seems weird is that it was happening in two different areas of the show building. Very odd! Martin you're very well versed on the internals of the different attractions. Can you think of any reason that two identical problems could exist in different areas of the same show building simultaneously?

I've always had a bit of an attachment to Universe of Energy ever since I was a Dinosaur obsessed little kid. Seeing it in its current condition does get to me, almost feels personal (even though I'm rational enough to know this is not the case). I can tell you that I remember riding it once before that problem on the same trip and the screen was working, maybe it was even the same day but not sure. I also remember someone bringing up the same issue before I went on that trip so it did happen before. Looking through my camera I can also tell you the day I saw the broken screen was 11/28/14.

In the photos attached above it's the same area, the preshow. Or am I misunderstanding?

Well, now you got me confused. I guess you are correct. The Jeopardy idea started in the preshow I just don't remember it going that far. I thought that second picture came in during the first "in theater scene". I will yield to your viewpoint, however, and withdraw my question. If it is in the same preshow area, it is no longer relevant. Thanks for your response.

Not to stray off POTC, but good grief, how much longer will Ellen be a part of Universe? Is there a contract or something? I'm all for retro stuff, but this is just a little too silly at this point.

I hope they already have plans we do not know about for doing something exciting with this. Anything.

Let me ask you this and I ask not to be clever, but, just out of curiosity. The water coming into your house is treated, bacteria allegedly killed off, etc. Yet, you probably have had to deal with some mold or mildew in at at least your bathroom. Why is that? It certainly isn't the volume of water that is in a PoTC situation. Moisture is also airborne from outside sources that unless hermetically sealed will get in. I think it's a safe bet that Pirates is not hermetically sealed.

Let me be careful to point out, that I am not disagreeing with you that more general upkeep is required on a regular basis, but, also to express that I feel that, over time, nature will catch up and exceed the ability to completely keep up with the best of efforts. Mold spors are airborne also they don't just go away without significant chemical exposure that would also expose passengers on the ride. It's not a simple answer like everyone seems to think is should be.
Bathrooms are a problem because people like hot, steamy showers and they don't like the shock of stepping into the cold so they often turn off their ventilation. That's why the mold problems are so concentrated in bathrooms but kitchens are not such a hot spot.
