Hub update:
Walls were down on two planters today. One by Tomorrowland's entrance:View attachment 112767

And one by Liberty Square's entrance:

This side has a LOT bigger trees than Tomorrowland's.

SpaceMountain75 update: very grateful for another trip to WDW and glad I got to see all the #hubbub. So cool to see the results from what was behind the walls last year. I hope the end product turns out as well as (most) of the rest has.

The Tomorrowland ring planter walls have been down for some time as they contained a temporary control booth for the stage shows. Looks like said booth has now been removed. I would expect to see "big" trees and other shrubs planted within the coming days so that it matches the other parts of the Hub.

EDIT: As per post by @SpaceMountain75 on next page, trees have already been planted as of 9/30.

@hpyhnt 1000, I read your post right after I saw this picture on Twitter! Good call.View attachment 112795
Also, the 4th turret has finally come out from hiding:View attachment 112796(Photos from @MKPony)

Nice. It's all (finally) coming together for the Hub.

Give it a few years for all the trees to grow in a bit and it should (dare I say) actually look quite nice. The center Hub will still be a bit to bare and shadeless in my opinion, but the outer path and moat areas should fill in nicely.

I see those ugly stage lighting systems are still in place. Was it not assumed those were temporary for Night of Joy? Are they actually more crucial to Not So Scary stage shows instead? Meaning they'll be up a while?

I don't think the new lighting rigs are working yet, so the temp ones are up. I could see them leaving them thru if they were lazy instead of Reprogramming all the cues.

I have mixed opinions about this project thus far. Some parts are quite nice, but there are a lot of really annoying flaws as well. So far I still prefer the original pre-2000's hub without a doubt, but this isn't without its merits either. I'd say the exterior ring is actually coming together quite nicely, and at least in those areas they're filling it with some trees. Sparkling trees no less, lovely to have them again (looks like they've added more lit trees since I visited in May too). I like the railings and bridge design. And I do love fountains, they're very nice along with the bronze statues.

I'm not really feeling the new turrets so far though. Maybe it will look better when finished and when they remove the temporary stage/lighting crap. But so far it looks kind of off. I'd have preferred the sides been filled out with trees like Tokyo used to be. The (apparently permanent) light poles are awful as well, as has been discussed. They've been very intrusive in practically every photo i've seen. I also don't like the look of the astroturf either, i've actually seen better fake grass (though I dislike fake grass as a rule regardless).

So it's kind of a mixed bag so far. Plenty to like, plenty to dislike, still doesn't match the consistent beauty of the original pre-2000s hub though. Though I am relieved there's a good quantity of new trees around the edges if we can't have any in the center. I hope they're allowed to grow nice and tall.

As someone who frequents the park as a guest 2-3 times a month the changes are welcome additions. Getting around during the parades and fireworks has always been a PITA and the new walkways have really helped. The new walkways and especially the landscaping give the outer hub a more relaxed park like feel which is also very welcome. As for the center of the hub, I agree that it's sparse and resembles a parking lot at times but it's to be expected when the area fills nightly with guests for fireworks, parades and shows. There's not much they can do unless they eliminate the fireworks as guest sight lines (as well as projector sight lines) would be compromised by filling the center of the hub with large trees.

Retractable trees.

Just sayin...
I love that idea! Construct a giant concrete pot/planter for the tree and that way it could lower into the ground (so that the tree canopy was basically just above grade) during the projection shows. Brilliant idea!!! I don't think it's horribly outlandish either.

Start the letter writing campaign now!

But if it is up for more than 4 hours, it will need to see a doctor.

This comment brought to you by your friends at Viagra.

As a side note, Isn't Viagra the new sponsor of the turrets.
I've always thought that "warning" about Viagra use was one of the best marketing tools for the drug ever. Right up there with "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas."

As someone who walked down Mainstreet for most of two years every morning up until two years ago it was jarring to walk in yesterday at 3:45 and see nothing but a wall of castle down the street. Much better flow in the hub but it is a wall at the end rather than a place I am called to.

Trees? yeah trees could help.... don't really know what they could have done different. The flow is much better but the view is gone forever.

Watched the castle show and fireworks from the east FP area and I did have a light tower smack in the way of my view. Would have been annoying even if I didn't know it was there from reading here

In all of these boards and topics, I've yet to see a photo that illustrates the firework display 'ruined' by a light tower.

Sure, you can position yourself beneath a tower and wait for just the right angle, but, c'mon folks.

Seems like more of quibbling than an issue that the average guest would ever comment about.
