Looking again at the pics posted by @wdwmagic, you can see new show/parade path lighting being installed in the ring planters. Wonder if we will see those used to supplement the fireworks and projection shows...
You'd hope they telescope into the ground during daytime and firework and projection shows wouldn't you? Surely they're not sticking additional tall objects into the sky in a fireworks viewing area.

You rock @WDWtraveler , thanks so much for all the updates. I'm going to take up a collection so you can bring one of these next time to get some audio of the briefing.

I hate those guys. They get in my way.

I was wondering about that. The pics don't appear to show it. But they are still installing them. And Disney wouldn't be so daft as to not have them retract...right?

Ah yes, the projection shows that are nearly incomprehensible unless you're directly in front the castle, at which point you can't see the fireworks.

If Davison were really as good as he thinks he is, he'd make sure the images mapped onto the castle stayed large enough to see.

I'm really amazed by all the hate Steve has been getting lately from the fan community. He is an incredibly kind man, who works extremely hard to create new, innovative, and exciting shows in a very corporate environment. For the most part he does what he's told from the higher ups in terms of where shows are, and how they should be, and then he seems to have more control and creates something very artistic and new, Disney cuts it down and alters it.

I'm completely impressed by the fact that the budget was maintained for the plants. After seeing how things were cut for so many years, I truly did not believe that the hub, regardless of it's importance to the park design and as an icon for WDW itself, would be created in a way that reflected the hard work and designs of WDI. As history is my guiding light on this, I thought fo sure there would be no trees and little if any uniqueness to the landscaping.

...but IMHO, this is truly looking fabulous and is "worthy" of the importance the hub carries in the overall park design. (In fact, it really makes some of the areas we haven't been complaining about, worth complaining about in hopes of a little TLC!)
I think this looks really nice! I hope they add some bench's.

Iger: "Walls are down boys...time to put on a good show. Build their hopes for the future so we can stuff the ticket price increase down their throats, then it's back to business! Got that?"

It was sure hard finding something negative to say after all the great pictures posted in the last few days, so why not just make something up. This project is going great and I do not see a lot of things being done to cut budget.

Apart from DHS. I know. Go figure.

What is it about the system at DHS that makes it superior? The Stagecraft major in me has to know...

Looking at the footings for those towers, they sure look permanent to me.

Disneyland has permanent lighting towers installed around their parade route, right?

Disneyland does indeed. Extensive lighting infrastructure was installed when Light Magic debuted (briefly) in the 90s.

MK has had similar infrastructure in some parts but it has been much more primitive, basically just a few floodlights on a stick (see picture below). Looks like they are finally giving it all a proper upgrade.

Incidentally, if you want to talk about parade lighting, Epcot probably takes the cake. Pretty much the entire promenade of World Showcase is equipped with flood and spot lights, I suspect in large part for the Tapestry parades of early 2000s. Now it's pretty much only turned on during busy times because of crowds.

Those spot light poles seem awfully close to the columns where the bronze character statues are being moved to and they are also the old green color so I'm hoping they were just temporary.

Those are the new permanent parade route & path lighting.

World Showcase from the start supplemented it's themed lighting with the various telescopic parcan towers hidden along the promenade.

These grew around the millenium when some of the old IllumiNations neon hydraulic frames on various rooftops were retro fitted with parcans. The one on France is a good example. I also belive that ToN is to thank for the additional tilt up towers on other rooftops in a similar style to those in the MK.

The existing Castle Forecourt Stage has 4 telescopic lighting towers. It couldn't be that hard to extend the idea around the hub.

I haven't seen anyone hating on Steve; most people have been pointing out that his shows are too hub-centric and essentially shut down the Disneyland-style parks. This doesn't detract from his talent or his personality.

Now that attendance is high year-round, Ops teams and frequent visitors are noticing how nighttime crowding has as much to do with the castle-centric shows as anything else.

I'm really amazed by all the hate Steve has been getting lately from the fan community. I agree that the project will complete as a positive result as stated in my other post. I'm very impressed with what was done. I just found a few comments funny and was joking along with others on those topics...
  • ...that we can now see worker with walls down, but photos taken when the walls were up had few if any workers. Of course that was actually due to the walls hiding the large equipment as opposed to primarily smaller tasks and landscaping now. To me, seeing folks finalizing the details adds excitement to the effort as it gets so close to completion.
  • In another thread someone pointed out Mr. Iger was touring the MK hub looking at trees and found it odd that a CEO would take the time. I had to throw a little comic relief at that too as I'm sure it was a simple review of the bigger project status or a photo op. No negative intentions, simply situations that are slightly out of the norm and had comic potential.

Sharp elbows and a jumbo cup of warm salty water to splash on their gear...

No they get to go up to the TV line… Some of them are nice and will work with you but for the most part they just walk and stand in front of you and then get really annoyed when you yell not safe for television words at them…

It's just as bad it is when a team refuses to stay in their bench area.

Fortunately when I was paying for college behind a camera I was generally able to dodge sports assignments.
