Main Street Bakery to Serve Starbucks Coffee

What I want is the coffee to be prepared when I order it. Previously, I had to compete for sugar and creme and many of those at the station were not even there for the sugar or cream.

I probably won't have this problem since something like Coffee Mocha, if on the menu, should be prepared by the CM, but if I want regular coffee, it would be nice not to be dismissed to a crowded small counter, and at that a counter that contains small packets of sugar.

I remember making the mistake of ordering coffee in a McDonalds drive thru (it was close and I was in a hurry) and they handed me 8 packs of sugar and a stirrer. No wonder they got sued over hot coffee.

One could get Sunkist brand drinks at every food store, still can.

What was done to differentiate what you could get at your local grocer and what you could get at the Sunkist Citrus House in Walt's day? Was the orange juice they served squeezed by Mickey himself or something?

You could get the drink at your grocer, but you couldn't walk into a turn of the century store that was a Sunkist store: clean, and right out of your parents time. It's the environment and what and how they served that made the difference. Yes, the orange juice was fresh squeezed, Sunkist brand, not something you could get in the local store. Also, orange juleps, fresh squeezed lemonade, frozen treats and bakery treats, all Sunkist connected, and not something you could get in the local store. (Also not something that was served in every other food stand through the park, like today where you get much of the same stuff in every location.)

I'd suspect they'd have the standard offerings of any starbucks in that respect...and, you have to hand it to starbucks, their "personalization station", or whatever you want to call it, is nice, and has been for a long time.

Fresh creamer (not packets), sugar in the raw as an option, etc...

And maybe hand out cards on the vehicles for a free something or discount or sample :)
Siren...eh? Like...the fire engine!

Ok, here's a deal for Disney purists and Starbucks to hash out...

What if Starbucks offered to sponsor the Main St. Vehicles so they ran consistently?!

I'd be completely on board with that deal. Market the crap out of your coffee...GIVE ME MY DOUBLE DECKER BUS!

Brands have always been a part of Disney. However, I'd argue brands were not as obtrusive at that point in time, i.e., there was not a Sunkist store on every corner of every town in every corner of the globe, and Disney still tried to create unique products and experiences only for the park. These days, there's not as much effort to differentiate - it's simply dropping a Starbucks in the park for the sake of "people like Starbucks, why not sell it in the park and create a synergy deal we can make profit off of." On top of that, there's very little effort to differentiate from what you can get in your home location, i.e., the cinnamon roll issue.

Starbucks pastries/ treats will be sold up until 11am. At 11am, there will be both Disney and SB pastries/ treats. Personally, the experience itself is not something you will get at your normal starbucks.

Well, that's a nice touch, I guess. While I appreciate the "emmersive" style of storytelling through clues in the surroundings (a LOT of AK does this), I do wish that Disney would do a better job of actually telling that story.

Maybe something for "trip planning" DVDs or something...SOMETHING to tell you what to look for and what you are looking at so you appreciate it, outside of finding it out through a CM (who probably won't have time to tell you), a Bus Driver (who will probably be wrong) or an online forum (which is a 50/50 crapshoot!)...

However, I certainly won't be there opening day...my trip isn't until August!

But, I would come in and shake your hand on that trip and order a small vanilla steamer for the kid and a small vanilla latte for myself, if you are still working there. <grin>

I hope the opening goes well for you guys!

I don't plan on going anywhere until next year. So I should be there in August! Also when it comes to stories, I feel that asking those who work at the location is the best thing.. If you go into a mom and pop store, you won't understand the back story on how are why they are there until you talk with them personally, or those who know the owners.

I would have to venture the guess that Cinnamon Buns are available in every town in the country and probably didn't exist at the turn of the century either.

IDK why they got rid of the cinnamon rolls, but they won't be coming back.. In it's place we will have cinnamon swirl coffee cake.

Should be seeing it much more now that it's back from being rebuilt.

LOL! Well, yes, but not the Disney ones. You know what I meant. People came to the main street bakery specifically for those cinnamon rolls, which were different from what they may have gotten at home. And cinnamon rolls in the US date back to the 18th century. :)

I hope so. It was my favorite experience as a kid at Main St...and one I haven't been able to share with my kid, as it's not been running on any of my visits, and they took the busses out of EPCOT as well.

When I went to DLC I was actually upset to see so many Main St. vehicles out and about, even in the off season! It reminded me what Main Street USA used to be at MK!

We will have a full starbucks menu. If you don't see it on the menu itself, you can still order it. Also, if you order just a hot coffee or hot tea they will be handed to you at the register itself. Any other drinks will have to be picked up at the hand off area.

We also have a total of four condiment bars (there are two bars, with two condiment bars each)

This sounds excellent. As englanddg pointed out their stores have a nice condiment bar. I imagine this will be especially beneficial when they are crowded.

Personally, the experience itself is not something you will get at your normal starbucks.

To be clear, I don't mind Starbucks in the park in this fashion, since it's fairly understated. I wish the decision had been to add Starbucks into the bakery, more than converting the Bakery to Starbucks, and kept more of the unique products the bakery carried, but I understand why it ended up the way it did. That's on top of the fact there wasn't that much unique to the bakery these days, but each change takes Main Street farther from what it was, and more towards today's world. Whether or not that's good or bad is different to each person. Entering the Magic Kingdom was supposed to take you out of the normal, outside world, where there's a Starbucks on every corner...so is it good that they're now in the MK too? Or is it better that something that a lot of people purchase every day as part of their routine is now available in the Magic Kingdom? I think there's a fine line with adding brands for the right reasons, and there's an argument for both sides here.

I'm fine with Starbucks everywhere in WDW.

Except in a Starbucks.

Sunkist is a brand of drinks. Starbucks is a physical place.

The Sunkist analogy works for that other new WDW coffee deal: with Joffrey's coffee. This is why nobody objects to that one.

You're the one who keeps objecting the most and with the most fury. If the MS Bakery Starbucks was going to have the cinnamon buns, people would probably care a lot less.

The only reason I even come to this thread anymore is for the comedy of the discussion.

SO I am back from my first day at the Bakery. I will say that no one should be disapointed by the themeing. It fits perfectly with Main Street USA. WDI and Starbucks worked together to also create a storyline on how we became to be. I wont reveal this story right now.

-The location will not have hidden Mickeys.. but you may find a few hidden sirens :D
-There will not be any seating, but there will be one stand-up counter near the Crystal Arts/ Bakery doorway
- We will no longer serve cinnamon rolls. I do know what we will sell (but instead of posting the menu I can answer questions)
-Although it wasn't originally going to be sold at this location, we will serve bottled soda
-Starbucks has created new techniques that will be seen only at WDW. If a success, they could be used at other SB locations (again, don't want to get into specifics) Hint: The idea is to have your drink ready as soon as you reach the register ;)

if anyone have questions, feel free to ask

Sooooo sorta like what they do in the Times Sq. flagship occasionally? A barista by the queue entrance?

Plenty objected to the invasion of Starbuck's onto MSUSA but most of those discussions petered out about 30 pages ago.;)

@The Empress Lilly simply seems inclined to discuss the cons of the intrusion whereas several seem inclined to discuss the pros. Since this is a discussion forum, I'm sure the discussion will end once one side or the other grows tired of the issue. At this point, one side is never going to convince the other side, only the die-hards on both sides are left.

However, now that I know you find these discussions comedic, I just might have to do my part to keep them going.:D

To that end ...

Based on what I've read, people really do seem to have a passion for the cinnamon buns. It seems they've entered the realm of "Mickey Ice Cream Bar" or "Dole Whip" territory. Imagine the outrage if Disney moved the Dole Whip location to Gaston's Tavern!
