Main Street Bakery to Serve Starbucks Coffee

will they have some sort of vegetarian sandwich? there used to be a really good one with mozzarella pesto and tomato on ciabatta.

There will only be 4 hot breakfast offerings (three sandwiches and one wrap). There will be some grab-n-go sandwiches, but that is it. The wrap for breakfast will be vegetarian.

I can say the Emporium owner has nothing to do with this... staying in character, I will say that the proprietor is a new resident to Main Street U.S.A... Him and his wife purchased the old bakery and remodelled it after something that reflects their passion, and past life... that is all I will say. (Think where the Strabucks name/ logo came from)

When listening/ reading the story, you have to imagine Starbucks is not some big company. You have to put yourself within this time period.

We are hoping the storylines to the other three Starbucks branch off of ours at MK
Lemme guess...

Their past lives are: working for TWDC Marketing Department, and as an imagineer too untalented to be scooped up by UNI or independent design firms. They set up a plan for four licensed Starbucks stores taking over unique Disney locations, because, as they said in their flashy presentation to Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, 'they're tourists, what do they know. They'll swap Main Street's unique vision and heritage dating back to Walt's first dream for something you can get in every mall, hospital or airport if only you come up with a ty backstory, and they'll applaud you for it too'.

(edit: sorry mate, not directed at you. I thoroughly appreciate your insightful posts. Thanks for those! I'm just one of those nasty Disney purists. We're evil!)

Next they'll bring McDonald's to the parks.

Oh...wait...

It's a good thing Walt never let brand names invade Main Street in his day, it really is sacred ground.

Nope, turn-of-the-century opportunistic mermaids who really happen to be into coffee. :)

It's going to be difficult for Fountainview to connect, storywise. Easier at DHS/DAK.

It is funny you mention this ;) .... a siren helped inspire the husband into making his decision to open a coffee shop in his new town

I can see them saying something about how the original main street owners grand kids opened this location for whatever reason (related to epcot).

But Starbucks did have to approve this story, and of course they did. So it's not like WDI did it on their own

So, outside of satisfying WDI's seemingly insatiable "tell a story" mantra, how are they going to tell this story on the park?

Will it be as (un)obvious as many of the "stories" at AK?

Once you enter the main door and turn right, there will be photos of the couple and a photo of the main street bakery 'grand opening' during there time.

There will be photos and objects on the walls depicting the husbands travels around the world... I'm sure they will read the story on opening day. Plus each cast member is introduced to the story.

Come find me opening day, I will be there for the opening shift. I will share my knowledge! haha

The plus side is that those trained specifically for the main street bakery Starbucks are the only CM allowed to work at the bakery... so you wont find other CM picking up a shift there, and you wont find college program kids.. Only main street bakery people.

Brands have always been a part of Disney. However, I'd argue brands were not as obtrusive at that point in time, i.e., there was not a Sunkist store on every corner of every town in every corner of the globe, and Disney still tried to create unique products and experiences only for the park. These days, there's not as much effort to differentiate - it's simply dropping a Starbucks in the park for the sake of "people like Starbucks, why not sell it in the park and create a synergy deal we can make profit off of." On top of that, there's very little effort to differentiate from what you can get in your home location, i.e., the cinnamon roll issue.

Well, that's a nice touch, I guess. While I appreciate the "emmersive" style of storytelling through clues in the surroundings (a LOT of AK does this), I do wish that Disney would do a better job of actually telling that story.

Maybe something for "trip planning" DVDs or something...SOMETHING to tell you what to look for and what you are looking at so you appreciate it, outside of finding it out through a CM (who probably won't have time to tell you), a Bus Driver (who will probably be wrong) or an online forum (which is a 50/50 crapshoot!)...

However, I certainly won't be there opening day...my trip isn't until August!

But, I would come in and shake your hand on that trip and order a small vanilla steamer for the kid and a small vanilla latte for myself, if you are still working there. <grin>

I hope the opening goes well for you guys!

I'll go with the siren strictly for the connection to Starbucks, although I may have gone with a more traditional main street storyline. But that's me. ;) Enjoy the opening - that's always my favorite time of a new attraction/store/f&b. :)

One could get Sunkist brand drinks at every food store, still can.

What was done to differentiate what you could get at your local grocer and what you could get at the Sunkist Citrus House in Walt's day? Was the orange juice they served squeezed by Mickey himself or something?

I would have to venture the guess that Cinnamon Buns are available in every town in the country and probably didn't exist at the turn of the century either.

Siren...eh? Like...the fire engine!

Ok, here's a deal for Disney purists and Starbucks to hash out...

What if Starbucks offered to sponsor the Main St. Vehicles so they ran consistently?!

I'd be completely on board with that deal. Market the crap out of your coffee...GIVE ME MY DOUBLE DECKER BUS!
