Magical Dreams really all that random?

Hi all just got back from a great trip at the world. I just wanted to open up for discussion the whole Magical dreams thing. Here is my experience--we were waiting for the magical express to pick us up yesterday afternoon with 3 other groups, it was the two of us, another couple and two other couples both who had small children. Well about 5 minutes before our scheduled departure a woman with a clipboard came out and was standing there for a little bit before asking every group if they were waiting for the bus. She then starting small talking with the one couple (no kids) and asked them if they were celebrating anything -- they told her they were celebrating their 5 yr. anniversary. She then proceeded to give them a certificate and a limo pulled up to take them to the airport. I was very surprised that she did not give the "magical dream" to one of the families. Both families had small children and would have not only appreciated the fact of not getting on a bus again but the kids would have gone crazy with excitement. Anyone else see anything like this? How random are some of these giveaways --fastpasses excluded.

My impression [I have no actual knowledge one way or the other] is that the Dreams from the Dream Teams are very specific and there is no leeway, and as such are 'random'. The CM magical moments are much less controlled, where CMs are basically allowed to choose someone or a group to get a particular treat.

I was awarded a CM magical moment at the locker rental in a park. I was in line and a CM approached me and started chatting. After a bit, he gave me a challenge to pick a number between 100 and 200, if I got it right within 50, he'd give me a free locker for the day!

Considering the number of perfect families of 4 in which the son is usually in the 12-15 range and the daughter is the youngest like 6-11 that i've seen being escorted around by the dream squad.. i sincerely doubt the "randomness" of the prize giveaways.

The criteria identify a specific time, and location...possibly even group criteria, but yes it is clearly random. Cynics....

So just because my husband and I don't have children we should be excluded from prizes????:brick:

I am sure they have some criteria for the big prizes, but i think its random to specific people.I did see a cm walk over and hand free cotton candy right off the stand in front of the barnstormer in mickeys toon town.my kids were on the ride at the time and missed out,but they walked around with big saccharine smiles at times to "fool" the dream cast into thinking they were the perfect disney visitors and should win a night in the suite. It was funny to watch them. They were also dying to get the cloud ears.

Are we talking about the prizes that they are giving away or are we talking about the magical moments. It is my understanding that the prizes are not random but a specified time & place (and if you're in the right place at the right time than you win that prize). The magical moments however are left up to the CM's that are giving them out. Someone correct me if I'm wrong here!

And while we're on the topic I must tell you about our magical moment as I've been dying to tell you guys. I had ADRs for the Rose & Crown (UK) and was hoping to get a table outside as I had heard that this can be a good view for Illuminations. We didn't get a table outside and I was alittle disappointed but we enjoyed our meal nonetheless. Our server was great and interected with our son (3 years old). Towards the end of our meal another CM called out my son's name, at first I ignored her but she was clearly walking in the direction of our table. She bent down to my son and told him Mickey was stuck on the monorail and he needed someone to start the fireworks for him. My son agreed and she said she'd return just prior to the start of Illuminations. When the time came she took our family outside and they had a chair for my son to stand on and chairs for us to sit down. The CM gave him one of those Mickey light-up wands and showed him how to get the fireworks started. She also announced his name to all those who were outside and everyone clapped for him. Anyways, my son performed and was quite proud of himself (he would than go on to talk about it for the rest of the night). When we returned to our table inside they handed him a magical moments certificate with signatures of all the staff at the Rose & Crown. It was a great moment for us!!!

You are spot on. Thanks also for sharing your story, that's what the event is supposed to provide. Unfortunately everyone cant experience it...so it must be unfair....:brick: When we were down in the spring for a week, my son was dying to get one of the fastpass awards....other than hoping for that for him, it was neat to see the variety of ways this promotion played out.

I have been told that for the prizes (fast passes etc) the Dream Squad is given an envelope with criteria inside. It tells them where and when and what to look for. It could say "stop the first person wearing a purple shirt that you see get on line for splash mountain" That was what I was told anyway. But CMs are able to give smaller magical moments without the confidential details. I could be wrong though

That's exactly the way I've heard it put. The best magical moments have been, and always will be, the spur of the moment ones.

I agree my wife and i feel that we will not get picked for any big prizes because we do not have kids. We are the kids. I realy feel this whole Year of a million dreams is a joke we are going on our third trip and know of many others that have gone multiple times and have not gotten anything or seen any one be granted something. We were at the Flower and garden fest. and some one was handing out seed packs and my wife said to the guy next to us must be a YOAMD, and we all laughed:ROFLOL:

It's the year of a million dreams people! How many millions of guests does Disney get every year? No matter what you think, the odds are not in your favour. Be content that you might win something, but if you don't - be a decent human being and don't begrudge those fortunate few who win and don't slam the promotion or try to 'prove' it's rigged to exclude you [it's not, TWDC would never be stupid enough to risk the backlash and no company their size could possibly prevent the truth from leaking].

Get over it and move on with your pitiful lives.

And no, despite three week-long visits during the promotion, I have not won the DVC-for-free package or any of the myriad other prizes [maybe in February! :sohappy:].

back in april when we went, we were in animal kingdom and my son wanted to go to asia, which was not on my list (i had my list of things we were going to do and even approx times), but as it was my son's birthday we went to asia. we went into a walk thru trail (sorry but i can not remember the name).

anyway, there was a cm that stopped us, as well as several other groups of people. after a few minutes however, she let us all walk thru, only to be stopped again by 2 more cm's. the 2 cm's started talking about the yomd and dream fp's. to make a long story short, they gave us all in that group dream fp's and i do believe that we were the only ones there with a child. the rest of the group were adults.

my point is, that you do not have to have children to win. you just have to be at the right place at the right time.

Just not true. The one time I was involved in a reward handout, I was by myself. Happened to be on the right load group for Soarin'. Many posters here travelling alone or as couples also have "been lucky". This spring when I was at the parks for 10 days with my teenaged daughter and 11 yo son...bubkis! What part of random don't people understand? :brick:

Dead on Monty!

I guess by the same theory, I should be pi$$ed off that I haven't won the Mega Millions lottery yet...conspiracy that they just take money from NJ lottery buyers to pay for the winners in Iowa and Idaho. :hammer:

We just returned from a quick trip to DisneyWorld. I can testify that our experience with YoaMD was quite random/right place at the right time. We were at test track and were herded into one of the briefing rooms before getting on the ride. While standing in there I noticed a couple of gentlemen in the white YoaMD shirts up front. I got real excited then. They asked everyone in the room if we had heard of YoaMD. Then told us that we were in the right place at the right time and received YoaMD lanyards with two YoaMD pins. It was really exciting and there were many people in there. Needless to say it definitely brightened our day.

very true. The odds are your just going to have a great vacation in wdw.If you win,you are very lucky, because on the slowest days in the least crowded park, odds are you wont even pass a the dream team or win a magical moment. The park may seem empty, but just take a look at the stadium where fantasmic plays. The "empty" park filled a stadium to the gills and you realize just how many people are in the parks even on the slowest days.

Also note that strictly from a standpoint of statistics, while every Guest has an equal chance of winning one of the computer-assigned YoaMD prizes, a family of four has double the chances of *someone* in their group winning than a couple does (and 4-times as likely as a person visiting solo).
