Magic Kingdom Tree Massacre

You can see into annother land quite easily in ALL of the MK's. Disneyland too. The magic overlapping is supposed to happen, IMHO.

No, no it's not. And no, you can't see from one land to another very easily at all. There are thematic barriers EVERYWHERE. It's the reason there are tunnels leading from Aland to Frontierland. So you can't see the mountains of Frontierland, which would destroy the illusion. Same reason the statues on top of the Tiki Room look like buffalos, so it doesn't intrude on Frontierland. Smae reason there's another tunnel from LS to Fantasyland.

Fantasyland and Tomorrowland blend together, which is a problem, IMO.

LS melds into Frontier, but that was done as a thematic change.

Honestly, pay attention on friday. You'll notice that they tried as hard as possible to hide lands from each other.

Paid attention in August and wrote a LOT about how it's quite easy to see into different lands from different spots. They do their best to block somethings, but at other times, it's painfully easy to see. Something I don't mind, either way, but still. Not that hard.

We revisited this topic about a week ago.;)

Still, I do agree with you, save for the Hub. While very pretty in the day time, I fully support the removal of the trees so that Wishes can be seen more clearly.Same thing with the sightliness for the Castle....keeping the view open is more stunning, IMHO.

While i agree with you, i really liked the shade better. Especially on days i was working.

The tree-less, curb-less, Hub reminds me of DCA at opening no trees, no curbs(did I just compare MK to DCA-2001 :ROFLOL:). But really I'v never seen MK's Hub with the trees and currently it's very hot and very plain. Maybe planting smaler trees instead would have worked out better instead of the large wanta be trees which are really just huge shrubs. The trees in the Hub do help in creating some depth to the end of Main Street.

The cutting back of tree's in the Hub isnt just at MK, DL did the same thing when the removed the 8 olive trees (original from park open in 55) from the Hub in 2004 (Both Believes premiered in 2000 and had the bigger trees) but replanted with 8 Pyrus trees. The 4 Tabebuia trees are still there and look amazing in spring.

But isnt it funny how Disneyland with its smaller castle, and smaller Hub and some very very Hub centric firework shows with a flying Tink, Dumbo, Zero, and Jack Orb that are behind the castle, still has trees. Its not like the projections on the either castle are that great either you want great projections see IASW or ROA during the fireworks.

Unfortunately these pictures are a bit dated, the trees are all still there but the pictures are from 2008, and since then the popcorn cart has been moved to the left and there's now a ramp in the curb in the front.

Eh, I like the hub better without the trees. I remember watchin an old vacation tape from 1992 with all the trees, and I remember thinking how much better it looks now. So I rather them keep it the way it is.

I'll be honest...I don't like the Trees blocking the Castle in Dl, seeing that it's so much smaller. Same with the ones behind it. Makes it looks very overgrown

And our Hub now looks nice, IMHO. It was very lush in Aug, and very manicured. I enjoyed it.

We are seeing different things. I saw very large trees at the latest time when they were up, and not pruned. Made the Castle looked smaller, seeing it throws off the forced perspective.

The high gloss is more subtle now, thankfully.

I really do doubt that, sorry. They were planted for aesthetics, and seeing they got in the way of the MK's biggest show, they were taken away. Their removal also helped the Castle look more grand and stately, but that's my own opinion. (though, removing them did revert the MK back to it's original sight lines.

If there was supposed the be a "thematic curtain", which they do use in some places, I doubt that they would have removed it. You can see into annother land quite easily in ALL of the MK's. Disneyland too. The magic overlapping is supposed to happen, IMHO.

Not really. There were trees in the hub in the beginning, however they weren't that large (Maybe 15 ft tall (from what I remember)and filled with twinkle lights!) and were not intrusive. The trees could have been swapped out for smaller trees instead of totally removing them.

Here's a picture from 1977. The trees have gotten about 6 years larger!

Right...that's what I was leaning, too.

THAT looks nice, by the way. Smaller, nice trees. I don't see those intruding on Wishes or MOST of the Castle, like before.

Don't worry I've learned to appreciate WDW for what it is, I no longer have an expectation of quality.

Sadly, I still do.

And while the folks who argue for the dumber, more concrete, less park-like setting of today's MK, all I can say is from the design standpoint that created the park, what's there today is incongruous with that.

Doesn't work. Doesn't belong.

And sure, anyone's entitled to like it better this way because taste us subjective and many folks who claim to be Disney fans don't even get the most basic tenets of MK design.

They likely also shop at Walmart and enjoy burgers and chicken fingers when dining!:D:hurl:

I'm glad you enjoy the dumbed down version of WDW, to each his own.

Much like Sarah Palin, they like to see their purty fibgerglass castle from Alaska!:xmas::wave:

So in a nut shell we are welcome to like the treeless forecourt but we are uneducated, uncultured rednecks for doing so.

The trees were an elegant frame for the castle. If you look at the old photos (and I remember this quite clearly) the trees on each side actually make the castle look taller. Now you see the squat base, and the forced perspective doesn't work as well. It's these touches that have been sacrificed throughout WDW....so yes, although it may be hyperbole, what they are doing conforms to the Wal-mart principle.

So based on my preference of trees, or no trees, makes me wrong?

Is it lonely up on your pedestal Mr. 74?
