Magic Friends...Remembering Bonny

You guys know I love you, and I trust your opinion, so I'm going to ask a question to only you guys and not to the general boards:

As you all know my Mom had knee surgery a few weeks ago, and it's not healing as fast as she would have hoped. She still kinda hobbles around and has a really hard time standing for long periods of time...

So when we get down to Disney with her, would it be horribly wrong and terrible of us to get a GAC just in case we're faced with horrible long lines or some ride where she needs help getting into a vehicle? She can't move very fast these days... or would that be sacrilidge?

That's what it's for, hon. They'll either give you a GAC or direct you to a wheelchair/ECV rental. She has to set her own pace...and if other guests are dumb enough to comment, just tune them out.

Do you know what they ask for when you get one? A letter or something from her doctor?

Ah yes... I remember those dang bills. :dazzle: Any luck getting used books?

They won't look at doctor's notes. You just tell them what the need(s) are, and they will put the right stamp(s) on the GAC.

Nope. They didnt have any. I'm hoping some will come out. It was almost $200 for 2 books.

Thanks... I'll have Anastasia scream at them. That'll help :D

Anyone know how much a wheelchair/ECV costs?

I was thinking we'd probably not use it much. It's not going to be that crowded while we're there, and we can't move very fast thanks to the girlie, but I still don't want her undoing any of the healing that's been going on since the surgery. It'd be just like her to push herself to keep up with us, and put herself in a lot of pain.

Plus, we're not the type to abuse it or anything. I don't want to be "one of those" type of people...

hello! I'm Bunny, or Krystyna

the letter isn't necessary - in fact because of the privacy laws they really wouldn't look at it. It might just be easier to rent the wheelchair to go form one attraction to another.
My friend that was just at WDW got a GAC for her autistic son, which allowed them to bypass the regular and enter thru the fastpass. A CM told them they didn't have to get fast pass at all, just show the GAC. I don't know if that's typical and not sure what I think.

Hey new FB friend! ;)

I agree with everyone else. If she needs the GAC, by all means! Get the thing! If you had trouble walking, wouldn't you want one?

...Have you listened to her? :lookaroun

I guess so... you guys are making me feel better about it

So, new FB buddy, am I supposed to "poke" you or something?? :veryconfu

I'm not a frequent poster in these threads, well, heck, I've only posted in them a copuple of times  I just wanted to say that last week, I went to Disney with my Mom and my 81 year old Grandma. My Grandma can walk pretty well and didn't need a wheel chair or ecv, but she can't see very well. So there were times I had to ask that they slow the moving sidewalk things down for her so she could get into the vehicles. They had no problems taking care of her and we didn't have a GAC or anything with us for her. My Mom needed an ECV. We rented one from www.scootorlando.com It was $25 a day and it was a great little scooter. It folds up real well and it's very light weight. It fits just fine in the trunk of a car. It does take 2 people capable of lifting to get it in and out. I picked up the side with the batteried and seat and my Mom lifted the steering wheel side since it was lighter. I like renting them off site for my family because they can have them at the resort and DTD as well. They bring them to the resort you're staying at whenever you want and then pick them up whenever you want. They charge by 24 hours though. We had them drop it off at 8am on the day of our arrival and then on the night before check in we dropped it off with bell services so the company could pick it up the next day.
