Great thread. I miss New Orleans so much. I was born and raised here in Birmingham (AL.) and live here now, but I lived in Nola for 2 years and have been visiting there all my life (mom had friends that lived there). It is hard being away from Nola and I miss it every day, somedays so much I feel like someone has punched me in the stomach. I still go and visit friends regularly and of course I am always there for Mardi Gras.

Sad thing is that I will be moving away to Orlando upon Graduation....but I'm sure I will be back to visit and possibly move back again...

You may have better luck getting rid of the Saints than getting rid of the politicians, stingrock23. :lookaroun

I get over to N.O. about once every six weeks or so.

Things I currently love about Louisiana:

1. Fishing out of Venice. You who haven't been just don't know, and that is all right, too. Those who do know would just as soon you don't find out.

2. House of Blues, New Orleans. The concerts most of all, but I don't mind paying for the rib plate either.

3. Emeril Lagasse's restaurants. There are so many world class restaurants in New Orleans, how can you choose just one? But I did (sort of).

4. Zephyr Stadium. You can have the Saints and their indoor stadium. :hurl: Give me AAA baseball where all seats are closer than 3/4 of the seats in any given MLB stadium, and throw in the atmosphere and fan entertainment.

5. Saturday night football games at LSU. Let me make it clear that I am NOT a fan of LSU. The only times I have been to Death Valley have been as a fan of the opposing team, but the atmosphere for these LSU games is always electric. A great way to spend a Saturday night during college football season.

I am sure there are good things in the rest of the state, too, but based on where I live, New Orleans is the most convenient recreational stop for me.

I worked at one of Emeril's restaurants when I lived there, Delmonico.
Even though I go often and I am there for Mardi Gras every year, I miss many things about living there.
I loved going to shows at the HOB.
I miss hearing the street car roll by at night.
I miss the smell of Jasmine in the air in the spring.
I miss living in the Garden District.
I miss my friends there.
Like I said before I go to MG every year, I miss hearing the marching bands in the distant from my apartment.
I miss so many things :)

Other teams have fans? I thought they were just misguided souls...

Does anyone else (of the LSU fans on here) intentionally wear LSU clothing at WDW to see if they can meet people from "back home"? I wear either a shirt or hat every day when I go and usually meet someone from Louisiana. Sometimes it sparks friendly rivalry conversations with fans of other SEC schools. I even met a fellow SLU alum in line at BTR while wearing a SLU Lions cap once.

There was an at least 6 foot tall, plush stuffed LSU Tiger standing on a waterview balcony at the Dolphin last Christmastime. It was unbelievable how large it was, and I am always amazed at how many LSU fans are at Disney each time I am there.

I've never been to LA, but want to b/c I love the French culture.heritage and also b/c Real World New Orleans was my all time favorite. :p For real!!

LSU played a bowl game in Orlando, so that's probably why they did that. Tiger fans travel well!

You may have been smelling Sweet Olive. It's so distinct and it brings back memories of my Grandma's porch (she didn't have A/C). The Garden District is a nice place but give me the good 'ole bayou!

Surfsupdon-what part of French culture do you like about N.O.? It's life to me; I take our way of living for granted.

LSU Lady Tigers and Coach Pokey Chatman, the great Sue Gunter, The Lady Techsters and the legendary Leon Barmore, the Lady Indians at the University of Louisiana at Monroe under Coach Mona Martain... I just love the Tech Band!

Wow, how have I missed this thread for 2 years?

I'm right outside of Baton Rouge. It's awesome to see this many Louisiana-based Disney fans. See ya'll around!

Well, I live in East Tennessee, but I grew up in Greensburg, Louisiana.

No way. My grandmother grew up there! That's also not too far from Britney-town. :lookaroun Small world.

Yep...Kentwood isn't far away. Britney's a (VERY!) distant relative of mine. She doesn't know I exist and quite frankly, I don't mind that.

I spent the first 25 years of my life (for the most part) living in Greensburg. I lived away from there for some of my college years.

How did I miss this thread?
And the odd thing? I live not far from Kentwood and Greensburg!
It IS a small world.
But after 17 years, 18 next year, I'm getting out of this state, heading to either Florida or Illinois.

Be careful what you ask for...I wanted to live in Tennessee and now that I'm here, I miss Louisiana terribly. :(
