Little Mermaid at the Studios Rumor

Actually, the Sounds Dangerous Building should be the home for meet and greets. This should have been done a while ago.

I agree with this. If any building in DHS is going to be gutted and used for a meet and greet it should be this one. I personally love VotLM and it usually has a fair amount of people in the showings. The same definitely cannot be said for Sounds Dangerous...if it's even open.

This can't be a big surprise to anyone given the age of the show, but we're also a ways off from LM opening at MK so who knows? I'm also doubting the M&G rumor, but those hoping for a ride-based attraction will have to hope for an expansion, as that building isn't all that big.

I would second the request for a Tangled show, although it may be a little late by the time this happens and I'm not sure the songs are memorable enough.

I just hope Disney realizes that closing the show completely without a replacement would be a huge mistake as others have mentioned. On busy days VotLM does a nice job eating people.

I can only speak for myself, but I think the songs are memorable and enjoyable, especially the bar scene. I listen to the soundtrack often enough, and find they fit right in with the rest Menken's best work. There will be people that disagree, as music is so subjective, but I think it could work well as 15-20 minute live show.

I agree as well. I find myself humming the music at times during the day. It is definately memorable and enjoyable!

Can't close a full show...well they did that to Hunchback:-(

Monsters Inc will soon have a show in MK
MI already has a show in MK and based on the logic here there won't be another...anywhere.

My daughter LOVEs The Voyage of the Little Mermaid and we see it EVERY time we visit DHS (which I would roughly estimate at aver 400 times since 1995), and between that and Beauty and the Beast nearly every show (during the main part of the day) is full with the standby line filling in the last few seats...since the park opened. What DHS needs and should be giving us is more LIVE SHOWs (like bringing back Hunchback, and/or adding Aladdin), they have plenty of meet and greets. Maybe they could move TVotLMermaid to another/new building (I imagine that the water effects have done a number on that theater) to make more room for something else?

I do not know about the far future, but right now there are no official plans to retire the show.

They have been upgrading components to the show over the last few months, nothing major, but a lot of back end stuff has been happening.

Any of those upgrades include the misting water sprays? I almost needed a towel last time I was there.

DHS has so much potential...

Close Mermaid...move One Man's Dream to the Magic Kingdom, Get rid of Narnia...there. Now you have three empty soundstages. Start building a few decent dark rides!
As for the Anamation Courtyard...axe it. Tear down the buildings and build a new pathway leading into Sunset Boulevard. So much more potential for expansion this way. Oh yeah, and I also agree with gutting Sounds Dangerous...and making THAT the one place for Meet and Greet central in DHS.

I do believe it was supposed to be temporary, but it still plays to packed crowds.

It's great because it's not a show you have to devote two or three hours to (once you add standing in line, sitting and waiting, exiting, etc. for something like Indy) and it's so blissfully dark and cool in there I love it (especially the nice cooling shower, haha). Add to that I love the show as well.

It would surprise me if they dumped it - but then again...never known to always be logical, those Disney folk.

I love Voyage of the Little Mermaid, always been one of my favorites. To people who think there can't be more than one Little Mermaid attraction in WDW you're a commie.

I do agree that if MK and MGM can both have Toy Story rides where you shoot virtual guns at things in front of you, I think a ride with Animatronics and Stage Show based on the same movie would be ok co-existing. ;)

I feel the music from Enchanted is a lot more "memorable" than that from Tangled. Just my personal opinion. I don't understand why Enchanted has zero presence in the parks. It's easily one of the best Disney movies released in the past decade (excluding Pixar) and it's nowhere to be seen in the parks. A head scratcher for me.

Now go ahead and flame away. :ROFLOL:

Not that the show is dark yet....but I want to share this. My youngest DD love this show. When she was young we had to see it a couple time each trip. 2 years ago (she was 15) we were talking about the show and we told her the fish were on poles with actors dressed in black dancing around stage. Well let me tell you..it was like telling her there was no SANTA. She just about cried that we had spolied her fav show at WDW.

I think what people mean by Ariel is that she is under an Equity contract. I don't know if she's a full fledged Equity member or not but either way she gets paid more than your average character and parade performer. Also I don't understand why people think that just because they are opening a Little Mermaid ride means the show has to close. If that logic was true we wouldn't have Finding Nemo the musical and the Seas with Nemo and Friends or BLSRS and TSMM. Out at DL they have TSMM, Buzz Lightyear, characters prominently featured in the parade at DCA, and they were going to open Toy Story the musical there and replace Aladdin. Toy Story the musical fell through but mainly because refurbishment schedules and certain things they were wanting to do to the building.

Looking at this from another direction, I have never seen a long line for any of the Playhouse Disney (now Disney Junior) characters. In fact, I think I have my pictures taken with all of them since they never had lines on our way through that area. So out of any characters that need a new dedicated M&G, I think they are on the bottom of the list.
