Lights of Winter not being displayed this year (2009)!?!

Via Twitter: RT @Disneyparks: The Lights of Winter has been enjoyed for years. But tech to operate the lights is obsolete, prompting us to retire the lights

Let's see...I'm typing this on a Windows ME machine. Tongiht I think I'll pop a tape into the old Betamax (no kidding!) and watch a movie on my new flatscreen.

Old, obsolete technology does not mean useless or unusable technology. That little excuse may very well be true, but as has already been stated, it's lame.

The technology to run it is obselete? So what's going on over at MGM? Does that mean all those dancing lights are obsolete too?

Just a note that this is also the first full year that Jim MacPhee isn't Epcot's VP...

As for the blog...I wonder if the comments section will be running into technical difficulties soon

Awaiting Moderation....

How is it that your corporate partner at Epcot, Siemens, who owns Sylvania, a company that makes lighting technology among other things, and the awesome Disney Imagineers, who create amazing tech gadgets could not in the past 11 months have figured out something to fix the problem or have created something similar with newer tech? People love to look at lights at night, it is a magical experience for all ages.

I am so lost as to how this has come to pass. Honestly, the cuts keep coming and unless there is something done to fix or suitably replace the Lights of Winter, we are not going back to Walt Disney World next year. As it is right now, I wish that I had just kept our original reservation at the Poly. The Yacht Club is cool, but the whole point of staying there was to be near Epcot to enjoy the Lights of Winter in the evenings. I feel an itinerary rework coming on. We arrive in about 3 weeks and this just stinks.

@DisneyParks How is it that Siemens who owns Sylvania, who makes BULBS and Disney who creates amazing tech gadgets can't get the LoW up?

I am so mad at this lame excuse. :fork:

Posted this on the Space Mountain blog:
Is the technology needed to operate the video games going to be obsolete by next year and be removed unexpected like the Lights of Winter?

On the Disney Dream post:

Will the technology needed to operate the virtual porthole be obsolete by next year and be removed unexpected like the Lights of Winter?

We'll see if they pass moderation.

He did say they are going to "find a new experience".

Still, lame.

Yes, yes he did. But I wonder if he realizes that there's a good number of people who are going to find their own "new experience?" Universal, Sea World, vacations closer to home, Busch Gardens..........

And again...

It's a world of profit margins in economic fear

Of quarterly earnings and lack of holiday cheer

And the price to park may go up, be we honestly don't give a ______

It's a commercialised (walt disney) world after all
