Trip Report Let's go to Disney World...TONIGHT. Our Spontaneous June Trip Report.

Yep. We decided to go to Disney World and flew there just a few hours later. Craziest thing we've ever done! Let's introduce the cast of the most spontaneous trip we've ever taken!

Your Host...your Ghost Host (ME!)
Jess

And my darling fiance - Bill

This would be our 6th trip to Disney together (once a year every year we've been dating) and our last trip together as a "single" people! We are getting married in just a few months on October 12th! Just a little background about us...

We got engaged in front of Spaceship Earth in 2011. SSE is my absolute favorite ride and I have a total crush on that big beautiful geosphere. It's borderline obsessive. I also enjoy eating lots of food, Ursula the Sea Witch, matching tshirts and I cry a lot. My fiance is not a fan of the heat, a huge fan of sit down ADRs, Winnie the Pooh, The Haunted Mansion and sleeping.

This trip was crazy unexpected for a few reasons...
1 - I had just went to Disney with my mom and sister in March
read all about it here: http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/whos-afraid-of-the-big-bad-spring-break-crowds.863449/

2 - I have plans to go to Disney...then a Disney cruise...and then Disney again in September
read all about THAT here: http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/its-unofficial-the-13-unofficial-wdwmagic-girls-cruise.816925/

3 - My fiance had just graduated from medical school on June 1st. He started orientation for his surgical residency in Wilkes Barre, Scranton - about 5 hours from our home - on June 19th. Also - Bill was a groomsman in a wedding on the 8th. We were moving on Saturday the 15th. So we really had no time to jet off to Disney. So there go our hopes of a vacation together...destroyed...lost forever...OR SO WE THINK...

So we were starting to pack a few things for the move on Tuesday June 11th. Bill starts talking about how much it sucks that he won't get a vacation this year (my family was going to the beach the week of his orientation so he only got to attend for 2 nights...the arrival and departure) and that once residency starts we won't see each other nearly as much and blah blah blah we should have taken a vacation.

To which I respond - well what are you going to do? (I'm gonna do the best I can...) and he says "We should have gone to Disney." and I say "We still can...but we have so much to do" and Bill says...just call them and see what a room would be for tonight, tomorrow and Thursday. So I do and I tell Bill and he goes "Wait...." and comes back 5 minutes later..."Ok book it - our flight leaves at 6:45pm - just wanted to make sure we have flights before we book it."
 WHAAAAAAAAAAAAT? Um ok ok you got it.

AND WITH THAT...we had a 3 night stay at All Start Sports booked with 2 day park hoppers. So what's a girl to do? Pack? Call her parents who are coming to help pack on Friday? Nope - I get online and book some ADRs! This trip we booked all new restaurants - Tonys for dinner, Rose and Crown for Dinner and a surprise ADR at Boma for breakfast on Friday (Bill has been dying to try Boma)

THEN...I started packing.

That's my traveling to Disney swag. I always wear an EPCOT shirt on the plane TO Disney. Usually this one. Getting so excited.

We each packed one bag...drove through Taco Bell...and headed to the airport.

Love that you just left it all and went! Can't wait for more!

I loved it too! Hahaha! I definitely recommend trying it at one point or another. Thanks for reading!

So cool!!!

It really was so cool! Lol. :)

At first I was all "Can you believe her?" and then I was kinda impressed that she had the balls to do it and the skill to do it. I bet she had no idea when she did it that she'd wind up on a Disney forum...SORRY LADY!

It was one of those things that was "Well if we don't do it now - we never will!" and figured might as well do it! There's more on the way! Thanks for reading!

June 12th continued...

So we had just stuffed ourselves at a fabulous lunch at Captain Cooks and explored the Poly lobby a bit. Now we had to decide - head back to the hotel and nap/regroup for a late evening (the smart idea) or go over to MK and do some less than popular stuff while the crowds were still heavy and then stay late (the dumb idea). Guess what we did?

Just a monorail ride back to MK to grab a bus to All stars?

Of freaking course not!

It was so very hot and crowded at MK. We decided to grab a FP for Splash via Adventureland.

After a late night FP for Splash was in hand - we wandered over to Tomorrowland (naturally as it's the farthest land from where we were) because we knew TTA, Laugh Floor and Carousel of Progress wouldn't have lines...and we love all 3 attractions!

We love the TTA! Although we miss the old narration! AND check us sporting our matching shirts - we always bring these 2 shirts to Disney...I think we've done about 4 trips with them now! YEP I like cheesy matching shirts! :p

Over to Monsters Inc Laugh Floor...not be scared...but to laugh!

They used my joke again! It was a different joke...nor is it my joke - I've heard it a thousand times...
"Why is Peter Pan always flying?" Because he never never lands! Wocka Wocka!

It was also pretty hilarious when one monster asked a woman in the audience her name and she almost whispered it. To which he whispered back " [Name of woman] why are we whispering? Hey [Name] Guess what...I'm Batman" All in a very serious whisper. The place erupted! Very funny!

@plaz10, I love your matching t-shirts! We have the same ones, but I bought my husband's when I was there in December, so we haven't had the opportunity to wear them together yet. It will happen next June!! (He has absolutely no say in the matter!:D) I love that you were able to decide to go and then catch a plane a few hours later! I so wish we could do that! It's kind of difficult when you have 3 kids and a cat to also worry about! Loving your pictures and can't wait to read more!

We then rode the Carousel of Progress - a classic attraction. BUT...

I was pretty tired and very hot...that I almost fell asleep! No bueno.
Time for some caffeine! I got an Coke Icee and Bill got an iced coffee.

We decided to head over to Fantasyland and catch my favorite show in all of Disney!!

And now - the best place to pee in all of MK!

Bill really loved the area and thought it was super well done. We then went to see his favorite attraction...

The Haunted Mansion to Bill is like SSE to me - he just doesn't get sick of it. He'd ride it 25687 times in a row if he could. In fact - I think we did ride it a second time in a row as the wait was only about 10 minutes (non graveyard)

Then to do some browsing through shops...

OMG I have been looking for the perfect souvenir in Disney...something crazy specific to MK...

THERES MY JELLY. Thank God I found it. Can't leave MK without Jelly. o_O Seriously who buys this jelly?

Cute lil Mickey soap dispenser

Love your trip report, and Captain Cook's is a favorite of ours too! It's my son's favorite place to eat (he's a fan of the kid's grilled cheese!). As for that lady's Dole Whip, I am guessing she 'family-sized' it! The look on the kid's face is pretty priceless too ....
Looks like you guys were enjoying every minute of your impromptu trip!

It was very hot. We decided to head down to Tony's to check in early...mainly just to sit in the AC for a while and if we got a table early - so be it. If not - we'd enjoy a nice seat in the AC.

Thats a nice looking castle right there...

This reminds me of one of my favorite Disney memes...Where they have word bubbles saying "Everything the light touches is our kingdom" and Mickey says "What about that shadowy place?" and Walt replies "That's Universal. You must never go there." :D Oh double Disney references you KILL me!

After we checked in - we strolled around outside taking a few pics.

Hey Bill...let me take your picture with Goofy.

No..no wait until the kid is done climbing on his head. Geez you'd think this was the Nemo display at EPCOT!

Back into the AC we go. Our name was called right around 7 when our ADR was for. Nice work, Tonys!

We started off with some sort of garlic bread appetizer with dipping sauce

It was good - not jaw dropping good but good

Regular bread with oil

Bill got the seafood pasta dish

I got chicken parm over pasta

I ended up asking for a side of the alfredo sauce and mixed it in there - delicious!!!

Both meals were very good. Not wonderful OMG can't wait to book this place again but definitely a repeat offender for future trips.

With a successful new ADR spot under our belts - we headed to Fantasyland to sail the happiest cruise that's ever sailed! (Until the Girls cruise in September!!! WHAT WHAT!)

It was time to head over to New Fantasyland as Bill had not been there yet!

We rode Under the Sea. The first time through I took no pictures - even though I'd been on it...I didn't want to distract Bill at all. But the line was so short...we jumped back in! Now I can go picture crazy. Really just wanted more photos of the BEST DISNEY CHARACTER EVER. And my new favorite AA.

Onto Gaston's Tavern!

Bill was quite impressed with FLE. He was hoping for more choices at Gastons and we made a mental note for future trips to try the pork shank.

Our FPs for Splash were burning a hole in our pockets - let's go cause some kind of commotion down stream!

We had two rows of really annoying teenagers behind us. At the very beginning when you're going outside they were like "Put your hands up! Come on! Are you scared?" And I bit my tongue from saying "HEY DUMB@$$ THIS ISN'T A DROP" but just smiled to myself when we got outside and he goes "Oh...thought that was the big one" No...not even close.

I always wrestle with myself on the big drop - do I take a picture of the drop itself/briar patch? Do I take a picture of the castle/rest of MK? Do I just enjoy the ride? Today's winner...

After Splash - we headed over to Tomorrowland via Main St USA to catch The Magic Memories and You

Lanterns from Tangled. Cue the tears.

At some point we must have picked up Space Mountain FPs because I know I wouldn't wait 40 minutes for it.

Classic space. Classic fear of decapitation. Aww good times, good times.

Back to Fantasyland for Bill's favorite Disney character!

Back in March when I came with my sister and Mom - I actually FaceTimed with Bill during the entire ride so he could see it...like he was riding with me!

Time was winding down...so we headed over to Adventureland. We rode Jungle Cruise and had a decent skipper - not the really great one I had at night in March but he was OK. Then for our last ride...

We had our own boat. I truly love this ride. And the Pirates Theme song. Actually in one of my work out classes (Body Combat) there is a kicking track to an amped up version of this song. It totally rocks. It's a hard track to most people hate it but I love it and people at the gym think I'm crazy. Oh well.

We were very tired at this point and the park was closing. Time to head back to All Stars! We decided then and there that tomorrow - when it got crazy hot and crowded - we'd head back to the resort for a nap. We were both kind of on edge in the afternoon until we got to Tonys. Lesson learned.

Up Next: Returning to my beloved SSE and bringing a NEWBIE to Magic Kingdom!

I had never been to Captain Cooks and now I know I won't be able to stay away. When I go in September for the cruise - I'm going to Disney for one day before and not going into the parks. I think my lunch that day will be poly chips and a cupcake....that's an acceptable lunch, right? haha!

We really enjoyed this trip. I think not only the spontaneity of it - but we knew this was the last time we'd be in Disney together until 2014. For our honeymoon we want a more relaxing vacation so we're looking into Jamaica or something - so it was nice to have some Disney time together!

Wow, I'd love to do a trip like that but I'm way too much of a planner. By the way, welcome to our side of the state.

See...thats what I thought too. But the best part of being a compulsive planner (which I am) is that I always have a partially planned trip ready for whenever. We'd been dying to try Tonys and Rose & Crown for some time but the things we'd order wouldn't be the most bang for our buck if we were on the dining plan and we hardly eat breakfast at a resort not our own because we love our mornings at rope drop. But it was definitely stressful planning all the things I normally take months to look over in a few hours - but it was so worth it!

Thanks! I hope we get some Pittsburgh games out here! The news station the other day said "Catch all your Yankees and Phillies games here" I thought OH NO...hopefully I can catch my Steeler and Penguins games here so I don't have to get NFL network or something.

The spontaneous trip....I did one with my youngest son for 2 nights once. We left within 15 hours of the decision. I still smile when I think of it today...almost a "take that life, I am not going to live by proper vacation planning techniques!" We had a great time and I got to spend some great individual time with him.

Your decision to go to MK instead of back for a nap...right there with you!

One can never have too much dole whip.

Best of luck with the upcoming wedding!

We're staying at the Poly before the cruise so we should DEFINITELY meet up for lunch since we're planning on Captain Cook's!! Never been but that pork sandwich looks DELISH and I could definitely go for that PBJ cupcake! Mmmmm.... yumm-o!!! What time does your flight land?!
