King sized beds not available if you have kids, WHAT? Is this true?

Rundown:

I called Pop Century to request a King Sized bed and a fridge for my daughters medication that has to be refrigerated.

She said that I could request both, but I'd need to talk to someone in reservations, so she put me through to them.

I was told that since we have kids, we aren't allowed a king sized bed.

Is this true? My DS who is 5 was bringing his cars blow up bed. Me, DH and the baby wanted to all sleep together (which is what we do at home anyway) in a king sized bed. Kind of bummed now.

I was just wondering if I got a CS person who didn't know what she was talking about or if this is true.

From everything I have been told and experienced rooms with a king sized bed have a maximum occupancy of 2. When one is needed due to ADA issues and the party consists of 2 adults and one or two kids then a connecting standard room is comped to that party. If you are not getting the room due to ADA then you would have to pay for the second room.

Every hotel I've stayed at has a occupancy of 2 on king bed rooms.

Oddly enough a few years ago when we went for our son's 3rd birthday, they put us in a king bed room for the first night even though we reserved 2 queens, as that was all that was available when we arrived. He was too big for the pack and play cribs, so we all slept in the king. However, we was still 2 on our arrival day, and thus technically an "infant". We were moved to a 2 bed room the next morning (which was wonderful).

You should be able to get the fridge at no cost. My mom is a diabetic and stayed in POP during the week of my wedding in March. She needed the fridge for her medicine and was given the fridge for the week at no cost because it was a medical need. I would check into that otherwise its $10 a day.

Yep. We always got a king bed when my daughter was below 3, but once she turned three we could no longer get a room with a king bed.

There's such a small percentage of King beds at Disney. As a couple who visits, I wish there were more. But I totally understand the family needs for the majority of visitors.

Marriott will let you book more then two in a king room. I was very unhappy with them once when they gave us a room with one king for four adult women and insisted that was okay. I was not a happy camper.

We were given a King room at the Y&BC, even though our son was with us. BUT, they gave us a rollaway for him (more of a flip-up) and a gift certificate for our inconvenience.

So, even though you can't request one, you might be given one.

You could always take the two beds and push them together to "Build Your Own King Size." That'll also open up space for your son's Cars blow up bed.

I don't think the beds at the WDW resorts are physically capable of being pushed together, as the mattresses fit on those metal stands which are secured to the floor. At least that's how it was in our rooms at POR the two times we stayed there.

I think this is a stupid rule. For our trip next year, I thought about booking a King room and me, my wife and our son (who will be almost 4), could sleep in the King bed and the baby could sleep in the pack and play. But for some reason, they have that idiotic rule where you can't have a family in a King room. But I have since found out that, due to the room refurbs at Coronado Springs, the rooms there will have queen sized beds. So my original idea may work out after all.

Odd, I thought I'd read other reports that had said they'd pushed their All Star beds together to make a king (obviously moving the night stand out of the way in the process). Perhaps things have changed. Ah well!

Port Orleans Riverside is the only resort we've stayed at so far, so that's the only one I know. But I would assume they would have basically the same type of beds in all their resorts, but I certainly could be wrong.

The beds at POP have the mattresses on metal bedstands that are bolted to the floor with the night stands in between. There is no way to move the two beds together.

Correct. If they are needed for medical reasons (ie insulin storage) they will be provided free of charge.

My husband just had gastric bypass surgery a few weeks ago and when I called Disney about our room, the cm said we had a fridge already in our room (staying at POR) but if we were staying at a value resort where there wasn't a fridge already there, then they would provide one for him free of charge since since he'd had that. He wouldn't have any meds to put in it, but would have food that would need to be available and would need to be kept cold. I didn't even ask, I just said I was glad it had a fridge because he was having surgery and she just said he'd automatically would be granted one with no cost. Works for us!

I understand about the king room too. We're bringing a bed like that for our son for him to sleep in. He's only 2, but still wish when baby #2 gets here that we'd be able to do something similar.

*When we stayed at CBR for our honeymoon, we were able to move the double beds together to make one big bed. Mousekeeping just kept making our beds just how they were and never moved them back. Don't know if they are still like this or not, but we have done this before there.*
