Jungle Cruise to get holiday overlay

Think for yourselfer
I'm not sure I follow... the Haunted Mansion overlay is a complete overlay of queue, ride and script in it's entirety and it certainly is impactful. It becomes a different attraction. Because the script is changing I assume there could be a way to build the script around decore along the route if they so chose. Doesn't sound like it but it'd be fun if done right.

Like @NowInc said, it wouldn't make sense for the natural environment to be decorated.

If you are thinking a complete makeover, that's another story. You want to make a Christmas Cruise and overlay everything, that can be done, but it's a HUGE investment. The Temple becomes the NorthPole, there is snow on the ground, Polar Bears instead of Hippos, ect...

True... I'll agree with investment... however...
I suppose I see where you're going there but I guess I saw it from a complete perspective and not just the tour guides. Hey they could've passed out the Santa hats on their previous tour! LOL

If done correctly this could become a classic holiday tradition at the park. And why not invest a little extra $$ in some new AA's just for the overlay? Imagine if instead of the tribesman selling you shrunken heads at the end of the ride...it's Mrs. Claus selling ornaments. Or instead of the family of gorillas trashing the camp, they are reenacting the nativity scene. Rather than the natives threatening the boat with spears, have elves brandishing gifts. Put a hat & beard on an elephant and make it a Santaphant. The backside of water? More like the backside of eggnog. What I'm trying to say here is that the possibilities are endless.

Glad WDW's getting something though.
If the gorillas are reenacting the Nativity, there will be a far bigger backlash than just mentioning the word, "Christmas".

I agree. In order for the "story" to make sense, keeping the holiday decorations limited to the sections that are not part of the "natural inhabitant" aspect of the ride will keep things consistent. The natives wouldn't have holiday decorations up..but the tour guides would surely hang things up in the line..and on their boats.
they could still decorate the camp site that has been overrun by gorillas or other areas like that.

I'm sure it has been said already, but I'll say it again I guess. "What about my vacation, me and my family won't get to see the real Jungle Cruise!!! TDO sucks!!!"

I believe it would be fine to include a scene with the birth of Jesus, but also have other Christmas traditions for everyone. Walt Disney World should include things for everyone. And if someone gets "offended" then let it be, Christmas is still about Jesus Christ and will always be. There again though, should be decorations for all religions but people should not offended over one they do not agree with.

They should make that investment, but they won't. This could be a path that may lead to bigger Christmas decorations. Although it would ruin the original attraction to some.

I would hesitate to put a nativity scene on the Jungle Cruise...not because it might upset the grumpy or the easily offended, but because it almost seems sacrilegious. The Jingle Cruise, IMO, should be more trees, Santa, twinkle lights, ornaments...all those secular things the churches remind us are not really a part of Christmas (but kind of are.)

If people want nativity scenes, there is a whole park devoted to that kind of stuff, just a little ways down the road.

Maybe they could put those two disney elves in there. I forget their names and can only think "Pimp and LeeBow" but I know that's not the real names. I keep meaning to watch that Christmas special. Anyway, elves would be nice. :)

That's MHO, anyway. (Not that Disney is basing their decisions on it.)

ETA: Prep and Landing is the show. Wayne and Lanny are the elves. Now I know. Thanks to all. :)

Disney has a huge catalog of timeless characters, but nothing they have ever done is half as awesome as elves named Pimp and LeeBow.
Pimp and Lido? I know that's not it, either. It's something.

I just cannot remember the names. It's a new thing, in the last few years. That's all I can come up with. Sorry.

Perv and Philander.

Something like that. I may have misremembered their names.

I have to admit, I was like "whaaat?!" when I saw the title of the thread. But since reading about it I think it sounds nice, and nothing too over the top or unnecessary.

Why? I have been a Christian all my life and have never once felt the urge to force feed it to anyone else. Happy Holidays covers everyone and because of that is far more sincere then randomly shouting Merry Christmas to a group of people, some of which, do not observe Christmas. It's a Christian Holiday not a world wide majority celebrated thing. If you want to say or hear Merry Christmas go to your christian church and say it until your voice breaks. Saying Merry Christmas to a non-christian is about the same as a Buddhist saying Happy Buddha's Birthday to you.

Yeah, but everyone knows the decorations, colors, and Santa Claus are specifically "Christmas."

Not saying "Christmas"does offend me, but it has nothing to do with not acknowledging Christ. It's the name of the holiday. Everyone knows it. Don't patronize Guests by pretending it's called "holiday"—that's a vacation. People visit Disney at this time of year knowing that it's (1) America and (2) the Christmas season. TDL, Hong Kong DL, and DLP all call the season "Christmas"; only the American parks are stuck in 1995-era politically correct stupidity.

Anyway, I'm impressed we're getting any overlay at all.
