July 4th - I can't believe we're even thinkin' this!

The hubby and I have been racking our brains over what to do for the July 4th weekend. We want to do something fun. We kicked around going to Atlanta to do the show out at Stone Mountain...Sea World in San Antonio...Pensacola Beach for the fireworks & Blue Angels show...but we always come back to Disney and wishing we could do that. Our Florida Seasonal passes won't let us into the parks which is fine with us because it's gonna be hot & crowded anyway. Soooo, I found a great discount & scored a club level room at the Yacht Club for 2 nights for less than $400 a night. WooHooooo!

I dooooo have some questions, tho. We'd *like* to do a fireworks cruise but I called an they are all booked up. Okay. We're concierge level. I wonder can the concierge staff work their magic and make one happen. Just in case, is there a good place to be along Crescent Lake for the fireworks in Epcot? Or would we be better off somewhere over by one of the Magic Kingdom resorts to view the Magic Kingdom's fireworks show? What fireworks are better for the 4th and is there any info anywhere about this stuff??? I'm clueless. I've never even thought to go to WDW during the summer much less a holiday. But, again, we aren't interested in parks or anything. We just want to go, hang out, do some resort-hopping, partake of the resort recreation such as the movies on the beach, and put in a little time at Stormalong Bay maybe early in the morning or late in the evening (we are all super-fair-complected). Oh! And what are Stormalong Bay's hours??? I know nothing!

So I have nothing substantiative to offer by way of answering your questions, but I do have to say..... how freaking exciting :sohappy::sohappy:!!!! I love this idea you've cooked up. And I think a mini trip report is a must when you return :D.

Holly, I promise if we actually go thru with this a full report will be provided. I juuuust got back Sunday night from the trip to Poly with my brother and his girls. I was sick with a miserable cold the whole time and terribly homesick for my guys so I didn't feel like taking detailed notes. I'll probably throw together a little something with pics soon just for posterity but it won't be like I did for my family's January adventure. Wish you and Brett could come down for the 4th! It'd be so fun to meet ya!

Oh! I found the number for the concierge folks. Zip on the fireworks cruise availability but I have the details on the cancellation policies so I'll be calling back. :D Stormalong Bay hours are currently 9 a.m. to 11 p.m...just in case anyone else needs to know.

I know that the fireworks in the MK are great and at the Contempory Resort on the Concorse level there is a balcony that faces the MK and we have watched from there before.

I was there last year on 4th of July - if you want to see fireworks, go to the Grand Floridian and hang around by the pool. You will see not only the MK fireworks, but usually someone gets married there at night and they have their own little fireworks show too! Last year, I watched 3 seperate fireworks shows just hanging out at the pool! Best view for MK fireworks is by the boat dock, but watch out for bugs (I was eaten alive!) The beach at the Polynesian is a good place to watch too

I'm sorry to hear you weren't feeling well on your recent trip, but I can definitely understand missing your guys while away. Unfortunately, Brett and I will actually miss you by a little over a week in July. We'll be there the 10-19 for his birthday and it will be our longest stay to date :sohappy:!!

Awwww...I hate to miss ya, Holly! Y'all have fun & give Brett my best for his b-day!

Okay...so the beach at Poly or boat dock at Grand Floridian but marinade in insect repellent...got it!

Looks like there's no deals to be had for airfare. It'll be a heck of a jaunt but it looks like it's road trip time: 14 hours each way. :hammer:

Great idea! Have a wonderful trip! Unfortunately, the "concierce" at the hotels whether you are staying in the concierge level or not have no pull. Unlike a real concierge at a fine hotel who can get you reservations, show tickets, etc, Disney's are more there to assist you with what you could do yourself, so don't count on them magically being able to get a fireworks cruise for you. You'd have better luck calling twice a day yourself.

If your set on EPCOT we sit over by the lake outside EPCOT in the grass by the bridge, thru the International Gateway. Right there at the Boardwalk NOT crowded at all and pretty comfy...I think you'll enjoy it with a nice frosty beverage from ESPN....Shawn
