Journey Into Narnia CLOSING September 10th

This is one of the biggest problems with a movie-themed theme park. Unless a film is a classic/blockbuster that has (or will) endure the test of time, movie relevance is short lived. Look at how long Back to the Future lasted at Universal. It was a fun ride but I once saw "face characters" of Marty and Doc Brown standing outside and people were walking by ignoring them. Apparently no one knew who they were. Disney (and Universal) have to be prepared to overhaul their movie attractions from time to time due to their potential short shelf life. As for Narnia... that shark jumped a LOOONG time ago and I'm glad to see it go. (I waited 45 minutes to see THAT???).

This is one of the reasons I wish they would go back to a "working" studio model and make the attractions around the movie process. They only specific movies should be the classics (like GMR). I don't know exactly what type of rides they could do though.

To me, a great use of this space would be to turn it into Flynn's Arcade. Thematically it makes a great transition from the Walt Disney Co to Pixar, as Tron was a picture the Pixar folks worked on while at ILM. It could also serve as an architectural transition from the sound stages to the brick buidings of Pixar Place.

I am one of the few that actually like Aladdins Carpets.

The carpets aren't a bad idea. I just feel that the placement is off, is all. It's in the middle of a transition area and doesn't fit, plus creates a slight bottleneck.

They don't need to close it. Just move it to a better location. I'm not sure where that location is. XD

Fixed that for ya.

Never. Country Bear Jamboree is a classic. Refurb it, for sure, but don't replace it.

What I consider valid criteria for closing attractions:
-Does it harm the environment in some way? (Ex. Indy Speedway, Flying Carpets)
-Is it horribly disappointing? (Ex. Journey Into Narnia)
-Does it take up valuable space that could be used for a replacement attraction? (Ex. Camp Minnie Mickey)

In the first two, I say fix it or close it. If it's closed, replace it, preferably, but in a situation like Flying Carpets, where one of the main flaws is that it creates a bottleneck, don't replace it. For the last one, obviously, replace it.

Country Bear Jamboree fits none of these. It doesn't ruin the environment by creating smell, sound, or sight issues, or creating a bottleneck. It's not a bad attraction, and it's too small to create a sufficient replacement. If there is a sufficient replacement, put it in the Golden Horseshoe, which is pretty much empty anyway.

Yes. Please.

I'm contradicting my whole "make it a classic or current movie" argument, but Flynn's Arcade would be epic.

I concure that this is a great idea. And although I am a Tron fan and have obvious bias as a result, this makes sense for numerous reasons. Although the movie did not perform to the high expectations, Electronic did very well. This proves that a Tron themed attraction/distraction done correctly can be incredibly popular despite box office take. Secondly, this would appease fans of Tron while still entertain those who are not familiar. Thirdly, Hollywood is not scrictly about movies. Hollywood is all about various types of entertainment i.e. television, music, and video games. Video games are the only aspect of the entertainment industry that are not covered at the studios. And having a shrine of sorts to classic arcade games would be an appropriate inclusion IMO.

Now, its just too bad they never replaced Narnia with a Tron walkthrough...

Would anyone oppose if they just expanded One Man's Dream into the Narnia area?

I'd say this is probably one of the best options. It won't get outdated, and One Man's Dream is a great attraction.

Perhaps they could do something like a Blue Sky Cellar as a component to One Man's Dream. It would get outdated, but it would just be replacing concept art and models, which they already have internally. It's not making some kind of themed experience.

Of course, that would require having some more projects in the works. Which I'm definitely not opposed to.

I never got to see it...I think it's a shame Disney dropped out of that franchise. I think it had so much theme park potential. Not that it's strong enough to go up against Potter, but think about it. Narnia could have had potential as an attraction.

The other option I like is to move One Man's Dream into the Imagination Pavilion and use that area for a new ride in DHS.

What I would like to see them do is make this into a Disney Fairies meet & greet. Take them out of Adventureland. You can have the Pixie Hollow sets to make it immersive and have the fairies here meeting guests. Also, they could have behind-the-scenes looks and sneek peaks at the next Disney Fairies film (since there are multiple planned). I think this would have been the most ideal place for the fairies to go.

Well this has been pinged around a fair bit. The fairies have been expected to go to DHS at some point, and this space freeing up would certainly make that possible.

That is a brilliant idea!

I've never seen the TRON movies, the old one or the new one, but I love going in to the Flynn's Arcade at DCA's elecTRONica for some lovingly restored vintage video games and fantastic early 80's pop music playing on the sound system.

The 1:25 mark of this short elecTRONica video is an instant time machine back to 1982. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88_Tyc9mTa4&feature=related

The 80's pop music, that unmistakable sound of aggresive air hockey being played by 12 year old boys, the process of putting a dollar into the machine and hearing the actual metal tokens clinking into the dish (instead of silently loading up a game card), the ancient and long-forgotten sound effects from video games of the early Reagan Era, the glow of the CRT screens in the pressboard cabinets, the whole thing just takes me back to a place and time lost to the decades. I really hate using the M Word, but I just have to say that the Flynn's Arcade part of elecTRONica is actually magical for me.

You know, when Disneyland opened, Main Street USA evoked a time and place that was only 50 years since past in 1955. It's not a stretch to say that the 30 years that have passed since Flynn's environment was real evokes the same emotion in those of us who experienced the early 1980's as Main Street USA did for Walt Disney and his generation.

It's magical, really.

Adding Flynn's to DHS would be a big hit, I imagine, if the success and continuing popularity of Flynn's at DCA's elecTRONica is any indication.

I feel like this move isn't necessary until at least Set 1 is filled in.

Not a bad idea. I really don't care to see the Fairies, but they would be more appropriate at DHS than Adventureland.

I would still love Flynn's Arcade. :D

I'm game for that. A little 80's nostalgia is always called for, and DHS could do a heckuva lot worse than replicating the energy of ElecTRONica in any form.

I liked the Narina walk through, the original incarnation the best. Walking through the 'wardrobe' and standing in the wintery forest was neat. When the White Witch appeared and addressed the crowd, she was great. Had the characters mannerisims down perfectly, just like Tilda's moves in the film.

The revised version to promote 'Caspian' was okay too....but i preferred the previous. It was nice while it lasted, but agree it was well overdue for removal.

I am happy to see others excited about the idea of putting a 'Flynn's Arcade' or any other type of TRON related attraction in here. I was about to make that suggestion myself, when i found come comments already about it. Awesome photos there, TP2000.

TRON is a big deal for a lot of people...and if DHS could somehow figure out how to incorporate it into the Park it would be a wonderful plus. I would love to see something similar to what DCA has done make it to Florida. Even just having a TRON prop/costume walk-through attraction would be cool.

Another vote for 'Flynn's' here!
