joe in animal kingdom

i saw him there as well
he was alone when i saw him and even got a pic with him, the guy changing the garbages was nice enough to take one for me

they are doing minor upgrades all around animal kingdom as well as beginning the planning phase for the new avator area

the only thing he was specific about was that they are going to begin putting up shade panels all around the africa area, specifically above the "hidden" dining/rest area next to the bathrooms on the right, across from the waiting area for donald's safari breakfast

the mytholocigal land is DEAD, he admitted it to me quite openly
a land that was planned 10 years ago is no longer a valid option
avatar is what we are getting

i did ask for a south american / ecuadorian / peruvian land or exhibit
pyramids, galapagos creatures, easter island statues or ride
that is what I would like to see next

Thought id post this here since its the most recent Avatar topic I guess. A buddy of mine(does construction in the Florida area) came to visit for the weekend. He says has heard some bits on Avatar.

1. He says Pandora(which is what its going to be called), is happening.
2. They have the basic concepts locked in. Now they are just adding the details and getting things set on how they'll actually build it.

And this one could surprise you.

3. Dont be surprised if Disney does something at night with Pandora.

Thats all. Nothing too outrageous or out of this world but some info none the less since we havent had much.

no surprise at all on the night thing. I would be more surprised if there wasn't. They are absolutely looking at a way to expand this to a full day experience.

Agreed. Not only does this put a serious dent in the "DAK is a half-day park" claim (which I currently agree with) but Avatar has too much night-time potential to ignore.

Honestly, none of those three "claims" from the "friend" are that outrageous, simply things that one would expect at this point.

None of this too surprising as you stated, but it is nice to hear something.

I sure hope your friend is right and it is called Pandora and not World of Avatar Overdone Commercialism.

Haha. I talked to him again tonight and I tried to get me some more info. He's really excited about it, as is a lot of people he knows. To build on what I said earlier, he told me tonight that the word around town is that Pandora is going to be very lush and very detailed. He says if TDO get their way, this will be as detailed as Africa and Asia. Now he cant answer the big question like how many rides and attractions or where its going to be located for sure. But he is starting to believe its going to be between Asia and Africa; tucked back in that expansion pad and where planet watch is. Apparently there have been serious talks about moving conservation station and Flights of Wonder to Camp Minnie Mickey and make it more of an area about conservation and environmentalism. Lion King would remain.

And for those of you interested in the Yeti. Apparently, they have to shut it down for the Yeti to get fixed. According to him, a plan is in place and should be fixed before Pandora opens. Oddly, he said the Yeti isnt the only thing they wanna work on. Not really just effects, but there is other things they need to work on.

Thats all for now.

Ah, Avatar...

If we don't get info in the next couple months, (And I mean details, not another pic of Meg, Tommy, a gaggle of Imagineers and Jim walking around a park.) I'll be concerned.

Welcome to the MAGIC, Jim ... I hope you won't be too hands on with the fellow members.:ROFLOL: (Yeah, I crack myself up after long days!)

I don't want to contradict what stitch2008 reported because I don't have any info either way ... but when last I talked to those in the know, they told me to not get my hopes up until I see actual vertical construction on this thing happening. ... And that if Iger leaves sooner than expected, then all bets on this ever happening are off. Plans or not.

Ill address each of your posts that youve ranted about.

For this, my friend is very reliable. Just to add a final thing, here is a quote he told me. "They didnt spend that much money to turn around and say oh we had second thoughts." Plus apparently TDO is hot on this idea.

I'm just concerned about the project due to rumors from more reliable sources, your friend could be right. Though, even construction doesnt seem to confirm a project in WDW these days.
