We were discussing this last night (not sure if it's going to make the show so I'll share it here). One of the "problems" with Avatarland, is that I don't think the Carsland approach will work here. Stripped down to their bare essentials, the Carsland attractions feature an E-ticket, and then two attractions that cater to either children or nostalgia.

For Avatar to work, it probably needs an excellent E-Ticket (probably not a $300 mil RSR budget), and 1 or 2 solid D-Tickets. Each attraction needs to have some sort of "wow" factor in it, as the franchise itself doesn't have the rabid fan base of Potter, Star Wars, or even Cars. For it to be succesful, not only does it need to recreate elements of Pandora, but the rides themselves need to be innovative.

Great point. Even those of us that enjoyed the movie need this section of the park to blow our minds or we will be let down. A mind blowing experience is what everyone expects, and I mean everyone, or the venom that the company faced after the announcement will pale in comparison.

So IF it happens, it will be interesting to see what types of attractions get baked in. This is Disney's last hope until Shanghai to prove they have the chops to create a truly groundbreaking attraction.

I'd love for them to prove me wrong, but based on the current track record I'd say :

1) A Soarin-esque ride where the trick is there is more movement/the screen completely surrounds your field of view,

2) A show, probably using a lot of video screens

3) Some kiddie-friendly type ride, with little video screens in the interactive queue

Anything more will pleasantly surprise me.

Tom, if they had something to leak, anything to stem what has largely been a huge wave of negativity against the whole concept then you better believe they would have by now.

They haven't because they don't have a thing that they can even say 'may' happen.

~A villa in Italy sounds better all the time~!

haven't seen that.

More like "huge wave of ambivalence" with a smattering of vocal detractors

Really? Were you around any Disney site the day it was announced? The fan venom was rampant.

While I get the arguments some have against the concept, the high level negativity before we really know anything is pretty silly in my opinion. Could turn out to be fantastic. Could.

James Cameron said they wanted to try stuff that Imagineering has just begun to develop. I'm having a little faith in him...

I think they are doing a disservice by not having any concept art. If they were able to show us the ride concepts or an idea of what it would look like peoples ambivalence would wane and begin to look forward to it more.

James Cameron's involvement should really push WDI.

Universal has a big announcement coming up with the Florida Potter expansion. My hope is that Disney uses that day to "leak" some World of Avatar concepts, or better yet, make a post on the Disney Parks Blog.

Good point. Perhaps they're working furiously on concept art and ideas, so they can counter the Potter announcement with at least SOMETHING.

I still would bet that we see nothing until the bulk of Fantayland is open. They don't want to steal the thunder.

Universal very well may start putting info out there when Fantasyland starts to open as well. There could be some fun one upping over the next year.

I sure hope so. Its not easy to look forward to something when you dont know what you're looking forward to....

Y'know, I've kept pretty quite when it comes to the whole AVATAR project (I think it's great, and all naysayers will be see it's full potential when it's realized. Throw the story away, and it's the WORLD of AVATAR that Disney wants, the sights, smells, the environment; that is what they will achieve.) But I just wanted to say that first, I think the land near Camp Minnie Mickey is an absolute certainty because since this entire project will be the main reason the park will remain open later now, it keeps most of the major hubbub away from the animals - specifically if there is to indeed be some sort of nighttime entertainment - and on that note, my point...

Y'all recall the copyrighted design and blueprints of that Ikran flying machine that was released awhile back? Well, I just thought it was odd because the design called for a parachute above it, and that that would look a little strange in the daytime, and make it not very easy for the public to convince themselves, and 'belive' that it was a real Ikran. BUT... what if it was at night? During a nighttime show? *hint*hint* catch my drift? Thought of that recently, and thoght I'd share it with y'all so you could mull over it for a bit.

Oh, and to the guy that recently met with Rohde, and had this lengthy discussion with him, but didn't inquire about the Yeti... ARE YOU INSANE?! GOOD GOD MAN! (slaps your face with a white glove) lol, seriously, I know how it is, your brain gets so confused when you first meet someone who you think is above you. Been there. But seriously, really?! lol

PS I had to go back in and edit this post, 'cause I did it on my iPhone, and well... yeah, that didn't work.
