It's a Wonder-ful Alaska!! May 30th-June 7th

Our Alaska cruise was finally here! We booked this cruise when it first came out over a year and a half ago! We waited soooo long!

When we first booked we weren't sure we would do it. It was so expensive! At $5000 for the four of us for an oceanview room, plus airfare to Vancouver, we weren't sure we should. Several times over the next few months I checked other cruise line rates.

Slight rant - People love to talk about how much more Disney is than other cruise lines, but that's just not always true. I never found a savings of more than a few hundred dollars on any other line. Sure you can find great specials on other lines at times, and you can find great specials on Disney at times. But comparing exact same date for date, the difference was not much if at all. Is Disney worth a few hundred more? You bet your bippy it is!:)

So we stuck with our current plans! Then when the kids sail free offer came out, our price dropped to $3000! Score! So glad we didn't jump ship so to speak! :)

Who:

We ended up with 7 cabins of friends and family on this one! It was awesome! Disney cruises are the perfect vacation for large groups with different ages and interests.

Now a disclaimer. I did a horrible job of getting a picture of everyone this time! I don’t know why! Everyone appeared in different pictures, just no good pictures of each family. So here’s a hodgepodge of photos of the group. I had to steal a few from my brother in laws facebook! We’ve got a great group picture of everyone, but unfortunately it was on the desktop which is now packed and on it’s way to Washington DC. Here’s the breakdown of who is who and then I will post pictures. This will also give you a preview of some of our activities during the week!

First - Us! I'm Tammy, Disney lover, travel agent. My Dh is Stephen, Air Force officer. Ds 16 is Chase and Dd 13 is Ally.

Next - My parents. My parents have been on most of our cruises and WDW trips, including the Med cruise last year.

Then - My inlaws. My inlaws have also been on several cruises with us. My parents love WDW and cruises, my inlaws, however, are Disney cruise addicts. Their favorite vacation, hands down. This time my brother in law got to join us again. It was his second Disney cruise.

Next up - my brother in law and fam. This is their third cruise with us. They have a Dd15 and Dd 12. You may recognize them from our Grand Villa vacation last October.

Then - Friends with twins! You may recognize these cuties from another cruise with us when they were littler. They are 3 now!

Next - More friends! This is my Ds's best friend. His sweet grandmother brought him.

Finally - More friends! These are two long time friends of my inlaws. We've known them for 20+ years.

Here’s the run down!

When we got off they had some snacks waiting for us.

We got a free pic of the rafting trip. I scanned it! But of course it’s with the movers too. :brick: I’ll update one day.

On the bus ride back we saw about 10 different eagles. They were everywhere!

I took a warm shower when we got back and we got dressed for Palo. The kids went on to the dining room for pirate night.

We had the private room! One of the great things about the long daylight hours was the view from Palo. We had gorgeous scenery the entire meal.

It was delicious as always. It did take a very very long time and we missed Toy Story. I’ve seen it before so no biggie.

It was still light when we finished!

We skipped the pirate party and went back to the room to catch Mega Mind. Very funny!

Kids came back crazy late again!

Thank you, Sarabell! It wasn't freezing, we were comfortable in light jackets and jeans, but it is definitely not your lay out at the beach kind of cruise. :)

I was so worried we were going to get rained on all the time! When we didn't, I didn't mind the cold at all!

Great updates since I last read!!

Oh those crazy teens and their hats. I don't understand it myself but it made me laugh really hard when I saw them..

I know I keep saying this but the scenery is so unreal!!! I am just in love with it.

Zip lining looked amazing. How awesome is that?? I have always thought about trying it but kind of chicken when it comes to that sort of thing. One of these days I just may have to suck it up.

And that water looks incredibly cold!! I seriously had to go grab a hoodie to read this, but it still looks gorgeous and something I would dif want to check out if we ever make it to Alaska.

I'm just curious- what kind of camera do you have?

I have a Canon 50D. I wouldn't really recommend this model. This model has issues. The new 60D is supposed to have fixed them though. :)

Zip lining was super fun. Everyone should try it once!

The water was cold, but we didn't get in it!

We leave for Vancouver on Monday. (Shhhhhhhh. . . I'm starting to get excited. . .) :sohappy:

Monday!! Wow!! Have so much fun!!!!!!!! I may have this done by then, we'll see!!

So how was the rafting? Was it meant to be high adventure or just scenic?

This was definitely not advertised as white water rafting and it wasn't. It was a float trip with "mild rapids". The point was scenic although the rapids were the most fun. It definitely made me want to go on a real white water rafting trip one day. :)

Sunday June 5th - Ketchikan

I slept til 8 again! Woo hoo!

We didn’t dock until 12 so we had another quiet morning onboard. We ate breakfast in Parrot Cay to break it up a little!

AlaskaCruise1113.jpg

Then we went to my parents room with the verandah to have church services. After we were done we hung out on the verandah and watched the arrival into Ketchikan.

AlaskaCruise1123.jpg

After that we got some lunch on deck 9 and took it into Beach Blanket to eat. There’s a side entrance you can take food into even when it’s not open yet.

Today was a non Disney excursion. I booked this a long time ago – a kayaking trip! It was called South Seas Kayaking, and I would definitely recommend them.

We had our own private group of 16. One friend wasn’t feeling well so we were down to 15.

We walked off the ship at noon and found the van waiting for us.

We took the van to the shop and got our rain gear and instructions.

Then we boarded a boat for the trip out to the kayaks. Here we all are walking to the end of the dock.

They gave us dry packs so we could bring cameras. Bil is holding his:

When we were waiting our turn to get in one of the guides talked me out of bringing my big lens. I was mad at myself later. He said there was no way I could stabilize it, but I could have.

So some of these above and below are with the waterproof camera, and sometimes when we stopped paddling, I pulled out the big camera with small lens.

AlaskaCruise1363.jpg

When we first got in and got started there were some serious waves. I didn’t feel like we would tip over, but it was really a lot of work!! Bil and I were last for most of that first 45 minutes. I was exhausted!! I was thinking, why exactly did we pay for this? And, oh my word, everyone is going to hate me!!

You can see the waves here:

We saw a couple of eagles, lots of jellyfish and a sea lion hung around us for a while. If I had my big lens I would have a picture of him.:D

Here’s an eagle:

When we exited the cove the water was smooth all over. We had so much fun paddling back.
