It's a Wonder-ful Alaska!! May 30th-June 7th

Our Alaska cruise was finally here! We booked this cruise when it first came out over a year and a half ago! We waited soooo long!

When we first booked we weren't sure we would do it. It was so expensive! At $5000 for the four of us for an oceanview room, plus airfare to Vancouver, we weren't sure we should. Several times over the next few months I checked other cruise line rates.

Slight rant - People love to talk about how much more Disney is than other cruise lines, but that's just not always true. I never found a savings of more than a few hundred dollars on any other line. Sure you can find great specials on other lines at times, and you can find great specials on Disney at times. But comparing exact same date for date, the difference was not much if at all. Is Disney worth a few hundred more? You bet your bippy it is!:)

So we stuck with our current plans! Then when the kids sail free offer came out, our price dropped to $3000! Score! So glad we didn't jump ship so to speak! :)

Who:

We ended up with 7 cabins of friends and family on this one! It was awesome! Disney cruises are the perfect vacation for large groups with different ages and interests.

Now a disclaimer. I did a horrible job of getting a picture of everyone this time! I don’t know why! Everyone appeared in different pictures, just no good pictures of each family. So here’s a hodgepodge of photos of the group. I had to steal a few from my brother in laws facebook! We’ve got a great group picture of everyone, but unfortunately it was on the desktop which is now packed and on it’s way to Washington DC. Here’s the breakdown of who is who and then I will post pictures. This will also give you a preview of some of our activities during the week!

First - Us! I'm Tammy, Disney lover, travel agent. My Dh is Stephen, Air Force officer. Ds 16 is Chase and Dd 13 is Ally.

Next - My parents. My parents have been on most of our cruises and WDW trips, including the Med cruise last year.

Then - My inlaws. My inlaws have also been on several cruises with us. My parents love WDW and cruises, my inlaws, however, are Disney cruise addicts. Their favorite vacation, hands down. This time my brother in law got to join us again. It was his second Disney cruise.

Next up - my brother in law and fam. This is their third cruise with us. They have a Dd15 and Dd 12. You may recognize them from our Grand Villa vacation last October.

Then - Friends with twins! You may recognize these cuties from another cruise with us when they were littler. They are 3 now!

Next - More friends! This is my Ds's best friend. His sweet grandmother brought him.

Finally - More friends! These are two long time friends of my inlaws. We've known them for 20+ years.

Here’s the run down!

After lunch we turned into the fjord at some point. We seemed so close to the mountains on either side:

We probably sat in those chairs for 7 hours that day. It was a perfect day. Definitely one of my favorites on the cruise. We watched for whales, counted seals, talked and just enjoyed being together all day.

When you see how small it looks, you realize how big everything really is around you:

Here’s the little buggars that kept us from getting closer to the glacier. You may not be able to see them, but there were 6 seals on this iceberg right in the middle of our path:

Pretty soon after we turned back we went inside. We hung out for a little while, but then decided it was time to go get ready for dinner at Tritons.

See the view was still beautiful, even from our room:

After dinner we watched the incredible sunset.

Here’s a little known fact. If you squint your eyes just right on a Disney cruise, here’s what the sunset looks like:

We stopped by the rebooking desk to book our next cruise after dinner! Woo hoo!!

Then we went to see the juggler from the first night do a full show. He was excellent.

Our friend was part of his own show in Diversions that night. They let him play his harmonica with the band playing! It was great! He was awesome!

After that dh went to bed and I went with dd and lots of others from our group to the 10:00 showing of African Cats. Great movie, but the circle of life is hard to take that late at night.:lookaroun

We went to bed right after.

Ds came in at 2 am tonight! Man how does he keep that schedule!

WOW! That is all I keep thinking when I see your pictures! My fiance has always dreamed of taking a trip to Alaska and I know he would just die of happiness if we went on an Alaska cruise!

I am loving it!

Some of your comments are just cracking me up - too many to quote them all! Like "finally it was time for the wedding" - as if you had been planning on attending the whole time. And that Mickey sunset! And there was something else..... but I forget. Anyway -:D

As always, love all that Auburn apparel! And those twins with their bow ties - adorable. How were the twins with the 'whole day of deck sitting?' I'm thinking this is a cruise better enjoyed by older kids? As far as the things going on outside the boat - I'm sure they loved all the fun stuff inside! So awesome that you are taking your kids on these adventures. My husband went on his Alaskan cruise with his parents when he was in Junior High and he remembers every second of it. What great memories you are building with your kids!

Good luck with your move to DC - I hope it all goes smoothly for you!

This cruise looks perfect for our family. We are not beach people!! DH would be out in his shorts all day! We might have to book this trip while on the Dream for DD graduation trip in 2012.

What, were we not invited to the wedding?:lookaroun:lol:

War Eagle!:)

The twins came and went during the whole day of deck sitting. They went to the kids clubs for a while and then came out and sat with us for a while. They seemed great!

I think this cruise worked great for their age too. In one port we went rafting and the twins went dog mushing. They said it was amazing and definitely their favorite thing they did.

I think we are building wonderful memories too. I'm so thankful we've been able to do so much with our kids.:)

Thank you for the well wishes on the move! It's coming so quickly!!

This cruise is definitely great if you're not beach people! No beaches here!

One of the excursions was snorkeling though! We saw them on our way to kayakking. I can not imagine snorkeling in Alaska!!

Oh wow! Okay. Totally thinking maybe we should've booked north to Alaska vs. south to California. Lol! Such amazing pics! Wow! Lovin' every moment. :)

Thanks, Kelly! You are on a great itinerary too though! I would love to sail under the Golden Gate Bridge!!:)

What?! What's this I'm reading? Kelly, have you already booked your second cruise, without going on your first cruise yet? That. Is. Awesome! :sohappy:

Tammy, the scenery is *almost* as amazing as Minnie's ensemble. :D I'm loving this report already! I can't wait to see and hear all about the excursions.

I agree, Kelly!!:sohappy:

The scenery was just amazing. No pictures can do it justice.

The excursions were great! We've done some cruises with no excursions, and some with only one. We broke from tradition this time and did an excursion at every port. Expensive, but awesome!:)

OMG Tammy!!! The scenery is to die for! I get the pictures don't do any justice, but they are amazing as always!

I can not believe how big the twins got. I remember the pic of them in their little tuxs for the last cruise they went on with you. Too cute!!

So you booked another cruise huh? Where you going now? :sohappy:

Yep. Crazy, huh? We snagged a reservation on the Wonder Pacific 6-day for Sept. 2012. The goal is to do DL after. I grabbed it when the itineraries first came out. We figured it wouldn't hurt to put the deposit out there. Right?
Tammy's been a real champ. I'm hoping to lean on her for additional help working out the details for the rest of the adventure, too.

I agree, Kelly!!:sohappy:

I bet! Nah, having a TA who I'm confident in & I know shares the Disney passion has been a Godsend. I'd never have booked even the first cruise without all the help.
