Is Your Cocktail Table Bare? Try Walt Disney's Disneyland...

I might hit up Alain and see if he will join me at the park too. Haven't decided yet on that. A happy medium would be to have dinner or something in the park with him but spend some time alone with the people I'll be with. I'm just going for one day. Wedding in the south of france about a week later. Flying out of LA the 19th, getting in the 20th? Certainly a red eye. Covering as much of paris as possible on day 1, dlp day 2, then flying to madrid and driving up from there hitting beach towns on the way. If I need more time in paris I might have to just hurry back and fit a day in before I fly out. I honestly feel weird spending 50% of my time in paris at disneyland but I also would feel regret for not going at all since this is something I've wanted to do forever. I made an itinerary for when I'm at the park and it includes about 3 rides LOL. That park will be all about exploring; the arcades, seeing the mural in plaza gardens, the dragon and the stained glass windows in the castle, the alice maze, nautilus, tree house and pirate ship.

Sounds awesome! Which 3 rides? Too bad about Phantom Manor huh?

BTW... lucky you!! Have a great trip! We ll be expecting a full trip report.
How many days are you going for? Will you be seeing other parts of Paris/ France? Or other countries?
I edited my above post after you already liked it with some new recommendations. Cheers! Refresh!

Slight exaggeration but nothing is super critical except big thunder, pirates, and space mountain. I have pan, small world, casey jr, the riverboat, main street omnibus, star tours on there also but I'm not going to hurt myself trying to get on everything. I will likely ride the railroad because I have a slight hunch that their railroad has better sightlines than disneyland's and less views into backstage and of green fences. Disneyland's is getting there, of course, but after frontierland you are staring into the back of fantasyland theater and then in tacky mickeys toontown station.

Yes, BUT make sure you go early. Their operations on the train are TERRIBLE. They only run 1 or 2 trains, and sometimes they only let people on at the Main Street station (perfectly happy to let people off at the other stations, however). I saw waits for the train I have never seen and will never see at ANY other Disney park. You wouldn't think you'd have to make the train an early priority, BUT...

I think you are all awful for buying paper books. One tree makes about sixty two books and thirty million trees are destroyed each year for books. Many of these trees come from endangered forests destroying the environment . All this for a book full of pretty pictures that can be seen online. eBooks are the future.;)

Wow, I definitely will be putting that new Disneyland book on my wish list.

In regards to other books, lots of great titles have already been posted but I'll thrown in a couple I haven't seen mentioned yet:

Alchemy of Animation by Don Hahn - I'm still working through this book but its got a great step by step overview of the process that is gone through to make an animated feature film. https://www.amazon.com/Alchemy-Anim...31524546&sr=8-1&keywords=alchemy+of+animation

Disney's Art of Animation by Bob Thomas - The original I believe was published in 1959 and has been updated a couple of times since with one update containing a feature on Beauty and the Beast and the other on Hercules. I have the Beauty and the Beast feature version so that is what I will link here. While the last half of the book covers the aforementioned feature film, the first portion is a nice, concise history of the company's major animation productions. I found it refreshing that the book points out some negative aspects of the production and does not shy away from talking about films that either didn't do well commercially and/or weren't liked internally. https://www.amazon.com/DISNEYS-ART-...24629&sr=1-1&keywords=disney+art+of+animation

All Aboard: The Wonderful World of Disney Trains by Dana Amendola - The title is pretty self-explanatory. I got it for Christmas last year and thoroughly enjoyed it. The story about Ward Kimball's train was particularly was memorable. https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias=stripbooks&field-keywords=disney+all+aboard&rh=n:283155,k:disney+all+aboard

Draw to Life: 20 Golden Years of Disney Master Classes (Volume 1 and 2: The Walt Stanchfield Lectures) by Walt Stanchfield and Don Hahn - I haven't actually dove into this yet (I only have volume 1 at the moment). It may be a little too academic and technical for someone not working or looking to work in the traditional hand drawn animation field but I got it as a gift and the historic value alone is enough to make me want to give it a read. I probably will never become a Disney animator or artist but even if I learn a couple of things from these books I feel like it will be worth it.

Volume 1 - https://www.amazon.com/Drawn-Life-C...id=1531525151&sr=1-12&keywords=disney+drawing

Volume 2 - https://www.amazon.com/Drawn-Life-C..._rd_t=40701&psc=1&refRID=2SVK113KQ654K7F6F8AY

Can we sticky this thread? Lots of good info here. That Disneyland thread for WDW visitors is another good one.

Disneyland Forum is not good enough for stickies. I've made the suggestion before for the WDW visitors thread, and its still not done. Mods and Admins just don't seem interested in creating stickies for this forum...

For those that like the Disneyland "insider" stories, here's a couple:

In Service to the Mouse - Bio of Jack Lindquist who was the Pres of Disneyland from 90-93 and began working at DL in 1955
The Last Original Disneylander - Bob Penfield...the last to retire of the first hired
Mouse Tales/More Mouse Tales - David Koenig
It's Kind of a Cute Story - Rolly Crump
From Disneyland's Tom Sawyer to Disney Legend - Tom Nabbe
From Jungle Cruise Skipper to Disney Legend - William "Sully" Sullivan
Window on Main Street - Van Arsdale France (this was a very expensive book to find for quite awhile, has recently been reprinted)

Other books (Disney or Disney Parks related):
Marc Davis-Walt Disney's Renaissance Man
Harriet Burns-Walt Disney's First Lady of Imagineering
Walt Disney's America (great coffee table book)
Welcome Aboard the Disneyland Railroad
Disneyland Hotel: The Early Years
Haunted Mansion: Imagineering a Classic
Pirates of the Caribbean: From the Magic Kingdom to the Movies
Spinning Disney's World - Charles Ridgeway, longtime PR guy for Disney parks
Vault of Walt - Various editions by Jim Korkis
Together in a Dream - Suzanne and RJ Ogren (WDW Focused)
Building a Better Mouse: The Story of the Electronic Imagineers who designed Epcot - Steve Alcorn

Although the editing can be hit an miss, I strongly suggest folks check out www.themeparkpress.com

Lots of really great books...if you like insider stories from former CM's or college program people, there are some very good reads available from them as well (your mileage may vary). If you have a Kindle, lots of their books are free on Kindle unlimited or very low priced if you don't have kindle unlimited.
