This book will go nicely with my other Disney hard cover books. Any recommendations on other good Disney books to add to my collection?

Tough one as I would probably tell you to get as many as possible. My favorites:
Disneyland: Nickel Tour - This will be an expensive one, well over $100 for the blue 2nd edition. Probably $500 for the first edition.
Disneyland: Inside Story - should be able to get this for around $50
Walt Disney's Epcot - under $20
Disneyland Paris from Sketch to Reality - will be pricey, but well worth the money
Disneyland Paris A-Z (25th anniversary book) - good luck, my boss got this for me when she was in DL Paris. Retail was $50.
Art of Walt Disney World - you'll be luck to find many under $100
Art of Disneyland - you'll be luck to find many under $100
Designing Disney - Hardcover, under $75
One Day at Disney - $20, maybe a bit more
The Making of Disney's Animal Kingdom - under $10
Since the World Began (WDW) - under $5 and well worth it...I'd pay much more.
The Disney Mountains: Imagineering at it's Peak
A Brush with Disney by Herb Ryman

I really enjoy the simple picture books released at both Disneyland and WDW for various milestones (10, 15, 20, 25 yrs, etc) and then more regularly after that. Most of those can be found at a reasonable price used on amazon or ebay.

What are the best books on theme park design?
What are the best books on theme park design?
Designing Disney by John Hench
Architecture of Reassurance: Designing Disney's Theme Parks (lots of info maybe a bit of a dry read)
First Walt Disney Imagineering Book
Imagineering Field Guides, short and simple for each domestic park

See if you can find the EPCOT book from 1982 on eBay.
There are 3 different versions of this book (that I've been able to find, may be 4 versions).

Walt Disney's Epcot - If I remember correctly, this was the pre-opening release and contains more concept art
Walt Disney's Epcot Center - Utilizes more actual post opening pics of the pavilions versus concept art (still quite a bit of concept art though)
Walt Disney's Epcot Center - Condensed version, much smaller hardback

All of these can be found for under $20 right now on amazon...the latter for $5-6

The English version of Disneyland Paris From Sketch to Reality seems to be available right now from Alain Littaye, one of the authors, at a discounted rate. As of July 2nd, he's offering it at about $70 (reduced from about $100) plus about $26 shipping.

And, from that link, here's a vid of him flipping through every page while pitching.

That's about what I paid for it and it's worth every penny. Fantastic book.

Wow impressive collection! Thanks for the detailed breakdown. So why is the Nickel your so expensive besides the fact it’s not in print anymore?

And now off to eBay. Definitely didn’t need another excuse to spend more $ there.

Nickel tour was not mass produced like other Disney books as it was not released by Disney. Mumford and Gordon did all the work and released via a non Disney publisher. Sadly they both died too young. As for the other books, I would suggest amazon first...most of mine were bought used there. But of course, comparison shop on eBay too.

Thanks! Of the list you posted I think I’m most interested in The Nickel Tour, Disneyland Inside Story, One Day at Disney and the Art of Disneyland. Which one(s) are the must have? Also which Paris book do you prefer?

EDIT: I’ll have to keep checking for the Nickel Tour. There’s like two on eBay for about 1k.

Just wondering, has Chapek or any of the current imagineers read any of these books? Based off GOTG:MB and Pixar Pier I’d say no.
I would say that many of the young imagineers could learn a thing or two by reading books by John Hench, Herb Ryman and Marty Sklar...for a start. I doubt many of them have a firm grasp on the history of what made the parks so special...not that they would have much say given the increased mandates around IP specific attractions.

For anyone interested in Disneyland History, the Nickel Tour and Inside Story are the musts. I prefer Disneyland Paris from Sketch to Reality. It really is a fantastic book. Like anything, these books are all a bit outdated as things in the parks have changed. But they are still fantastic books.

I think we have similar taste and/ or I have good intuition. The 3 books you called out are the 3 I have my eye on.

There are 2 on Amazon for under $500 I think. The blue one is the second edition and more up to date. I got lucky, paid $53 for mine in 2003.

My guess: They played a few minutes of Roller Coaster Tycoon and never passed the first level because they didn't want to spend money on rides and raised the price of hot dogs to $500.00
