Is the clock ticking on the Sorcerer Mickey Hat icon at the Studios? YES!

How anybody could like the hat where it is after seeing this is beyond me. But to some, that's all they know as the park's icon. I miss the first picture :)

These are my two favorite photos pre-hat:

If people like the hat as the icon, they like the hat as the icon. To each their own.
Would it be any less of an icon if it were placed outside the park gate? If anything it would make the BAH more popular and it wouldn't distract from the park's theming.

Exactly. Right outside the park is the perfect spot for it. I'm not saying I like the hat icon there. I prefer the Chinese Theatre and the view of walking down Hollywood Blvd. It's supposed to represent Hollywood. I was just saying if folks like the hat as the icon, then that's what they like, but the theatre should be the icon you see as you walk down the blvd. It's like them placing the BAH right on Buena Vista Street in DCA. Would completely ruin the theming.

Let me clarify, I like the hat. I don't mind its placement, but I realize it has to go. Like you, I would like to see it moved.

Problem is, if it is moved to the front of the park, it would be visible behind Morocco in Epcot. Somebody here did a rendering...and thats just not okay. I really like it as the parks icon, but if it does get demolished, I think they should just have the theater be the icon, not the water tower. But thats just me...

It would be visible behind Morocco if placed up on the hill at the top of the Hollywood Hills Amphitheater.

Nothing about the BAH...

On May 1st, 2014, Disney’s Hollywood Studios will mark its 25th anniversary with some special events in the park:

At 10 a.m., Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse will take the stage with Disney’s Hollywood Studios Vice President Dan Cockerell to start the celebration day, honoring some of the 25-year cast members during a short rededication ceremony.

A special motorcade — “Stars of the Studios” — will make its way down Hollywood Blvd. beginning at 7 p.m. and feature many of the famous characters showcased throughout the park. Mickey and Minnie will be joined by television and film stars including Captain Jack Sparrow, Darth Vader, Doc McStuffins, Wreck-It Ralph, Venellope, Sofia the First and more.

Following the motorcade, the area in front of the park’s Sorcerer Hat Stage will become a dance party before a fireworks show ends the day in grand fashion at 9:30 p.m. The pyrotechnics show, which will be high in the sky above the Sorcerer Mickey Hat, will pay tribute to 25 years of show business stories that have been told throughout the park.

And finally, a taste-tempting treat — a 25th Anniversary Chocolate Nutella Cupcake — will be sold at many of the park’s quick service dining locations during the day.

Actually yes.

They only TOLD you it was because of the Millennium. o_O

(Although I can't recall what excuse it was they gave for retheming the Animation Building into a generic museum celebrating past animation, after that production facility folded as well.)

I dont recall either but it could have been turned into an attraction of some kind, but instead was turned into accounting offices and what not. They could have used that whole space back there for something else instead of an entire employee complex.
