Is the clock ticking on the Leave a Legacy monoliths at Epcot?

If the last one was sold in 2007 that is the 15 year commitment from that date. There isn't any sense in trying to segregate the early ones from the most recent. They just all stay until 2022. I think that they could move them since there is still 7 years left to go, but, the question is would they?
They certainly should. Putting the pictures along the wall or something would be much better than the eyesore that is the entrance way, 'privilege of having your picture in a theme park' or not...

I hope so...I'd even send it off in style...

The contact was for them to be displayed. Not necessarily in the same place.

So no problem.
Exactly. Those pictures and the monoliths could be moved to a less prominent spot and still meet the contract. They just have to be displayed somewhere in WDW.

My problem has always been with the design of the monoliths. They block the entrance and don't fit the theme of Epcot in any way. These pictures always should have been displayed at the sides of plaza.

I think...like the hat...it's the placement. Maybe there is somewhere else planned for them to go? I wouldn't want to see them destroyed (I don't think) but I'm not sure where you re-locate something that specific...I'm sure someone could come up with something tasteful?

I'd prefer they stay. We have two legacy's displayed, one of DW & I and the other of DS. When I visit we always look up our designated spot. I know there are a lot of unsold/unused space and maybe Disney could at least consolidate the existing plaque panels onto fewer blocks and at least remove some of them. There are what, a total of 30 some monoliths, they could probably scale it down to about half. Maybe by having fewer they wouldnt stand out as much and it would appease the Legacy haters. It would mean guests would have to look up their new site if they wanted to search them out during a visit.

I wonder, out of pure curiosity, how many family photos on there have gone through divorce in the years that these have been put up.
I think of this because there is a brick somewhere near the TTC that has my name on it. I will not ever show my kids, as the name of my college girlfriend sits next to it, and while my kids wouldn't notice, know, or care, my wife certainly would...

I think it's more likely that lots of people have died since having their pictures on the gravestones, which makes it a sensitive topic. I mean I know it's just a memorial, and they're not actually buried there, but it still might upset some folk.

I'd demolish the tombstones but take the photos and put them on museum information style panels lining the back of Future Word, around the path up to the Wonders of Life building.

Take away the stones, consolidate the blank spaces, and they wouldn't take up too much room, and if they're about celebrating good times in the parks, or remembering loved ones sadly lost, then Wonders of Life/Festival Center is a totally appropriate theme, and they might also help draw extra foot traffic towards Universe of Energy and not obstruct any view.

I wonder if they could display them no one can even go? They'd still be on property just hidden away

I'd prefer that at least but my opinion would be different if I actually had one.

And I would be one of them.

The idea was ok, the execution was terrible.

The blocks make such traffic flow problems, the faces on the tiles brand new were not easy to recognize and now many of them are almost completely gone.

I could have thought of 100 better ways to implement the same concept.

Actually since they only use the area directly in the center of the gate area for I coming and outgoing guests, the floral planter is more in the way than anything. If they remove the stones and replace them with trees or more planters the problem will remain. They need to spread the gates along the entire front of that area instead of concentrating them just to the middle section. But then that would mean more CMs are needed and they certainly don't want to do that! :)

I got one done with my daughter in 2001 when she was one. The picture is hiddeous and I was embarrassed to show my husband last year lol...but I'd be sad if they totally got rid of it.

LaL never bothered me. As a kid I always wanted to leave a legacy but I'm more determined for a brick around MK property. The images on LaL look terrible.

I'm pretty sure the original layout had more open areas than the monoliths do now...plus there's the psychological aspect of having several large stones partially blocking your path, whereas smaller planters, like the height of the one in the middle would make the area feel much more open.

The original layout was much better IIRC

Disney could break those up (the stones, not the pictures) into small pieces and sell them as Epcot paper-weights.
