How to read: Buying a ticket at 2023 prices and get 1-9 free compared to full price ticket package in 2019

So buy 4 tickets get 1 free today would cost $584, in 2019 5 tickets cost $494 which means you're spending $90 MORE TODAY with that deal than you would have in 2019 with no deal
Did you account for the 10% yoy growth mandate? Bob always crows about increased gifts spending.
It's baked in.

IIRC, BLS data says the top 20% of US households spends around $4,500 annually on vacation travel. So that's a decent chunk.
But they’re prolly not the one going to Taylor…is my point.

This is the scenario you have proposed:

“Kids…we’re all gonna go to pop century for 5 days…or mom and sis are gonna go to Taylor for 3 hours…
We can only afford 1…so what do we choose?”

I mean if she's responsible for inflation and increase in GDP of some countries. I think the larger point would be it's not just Taylor, but Beyonce, BTS, etc. That concert experience is competing for vacation dollars.

The singer who wrote the book on that style of touring is Mylene Farmer in France. She announces a tour every 3-5 years, book less than a month worth of dates across french speaking countries in Europe and every concert is a major event. It's a once in a lifetime experience everytime and she's been at it since the early 1990s.

I wonder how sustainable it is long term for the artists, as I feel Mylene Farmer is an exception, not the normal. Like WDW, in 3-4 years when Taylor Swift announces her next stadium tour and again, people are forced to drop that kind of cash to attend, will they again remortgage their home?

But this isn’t how it would go down. It would be separate decisions. It would be a conversation between Mom & Dad, “Daughter is a good kid, takes care of younger siblings, puts up with being drug to everyone’s activities, helps Mom around the house and this is a once in a lifetime opportunity that would make her really happy, and she’ll remember forever as a time she was made a priority by her parents. Can we make this happen for her?”

Then sometime later, “What should we do for vacation? Because of the concert our budget is now this.” Birthday and Christmas presents for daughter would also likely be the concert.

Vacations like going to WDW is an experience. Going to a Taylor Swift concert paying top dollar for a fanatical Swifty fan is a religious experience for some.

But do you really think this number if there is anyone in this boat is having a significant impact on Disney’s attendance numbers?!? Impossible plus you are assuming the majority of these people are choosing between Disney and Taylor… just not buying this concert as a factor that is moving any needles.

My position is “it’s not just Taylor.” Do I think parents would go out of their way to give one of their kids a concert of a lifetime? Yes. Do I believe parents would shift a WDW vacation by a year, in order to rock their kids world in another way? Yes. Do I think Taylor’s concert could be a catalyst for these discussions to happen more in 2023 than in 2022? Yes.

Maybe im wrong here but as a parent there is absolutely NO way im telling another sibling that there will be no vacations this year bc your sister went to see Taylor Swift… no way no how.

And if you still took a vacation. A vacation where everyone enjoyed themselves, but it just wasn’t WDW that year, because everyone has already been several times?

Yeah…don’t think you’re talking about the right street in the neighborhood. Maybe not the right neighborhood 🤪

At Disneys prices…I’m sure it’s a thing…but i bet it’s a very small percentage.

In short: this isn’t why their attendance bottomed out…just so happened to be after all the Covid reschedules and free gravy payments dried up.

I’m not one into coincidences
