All I know is it was from an area manager at AK and he said it was roughly 1.2 miles.

So yes he knows what he's talking about since he's in charge of that area, and I have no proof, other than the school I go to always has the best guest speakers. (Eisner is even supposed to be here sometime.)

Did he tell you what his name was and what was the name of your school?

In the Disney College Program video that they showed tonight at LSU, there was a brief computer generated-looking clip of a guests point-of-view going through the temple. I was totally surprised.

Yes, his name was John (don't remember his last name) and he had two other area managers from AK with him.

And I go to UCF (but a specific branch of UCF).

Did he only talk about Everest or did you ask him. Did he give any other information about the ride?

Would you think that Disney would build the second longest coaster in the US, longer than their current "extreme" coaster, and not even mention it? Not to mention, Disney's longest coaster ever.

Edit: Bah, the white space deletion is driving me nuts. Let me try a different way.

Edit #2: Bah, forget it. Inserted a link instead.

I don't know if he's lying or not, but it could be possible that they didn't want to announce it to the public because they wanted us to be surprised when it opened. There is a slim chance that E.E is 1.2 miles long.

You don't "suprise" the public with the length of a ride. You use it as a selling point to get people to want to ride it when the ride opens.

Which is exactly why he told it to a bunch of collage students

At 6336', it would actually be the fifth longest in the United States, if counting Voyage, which also opens in 2006. It'd be the second longest steel coaster in the US.

Though, I agree -- if it were that long, I can't imagine that Disney wouldn't trump that up just a little bit, at least. That's what I've been saying all along. Also, as I pointed out earlier, that's inordinately long for a coaster with a 110' lift. All other coasters that long are very much taller or are launched.

The only way I can imagine that Everest may actually be 6000'+ long is because of its long, meandering path to its main lift. That's a lot of extra track that most coasters do not have.

I meant second longest steel coaster. I don't even know what "Voyage" is, but I'll take your word for it.

Though, don't be too concerned about the length of the lift. Doesn't the ride have 3? One before the station, the main lift, and then one before or after the backwards section?

Voyage is a wooden coaster being constructed at Holiday World in Santa Claus, Indiana.

Everest has two lifts, I believe -- the short lift first, followed by the main lift of ~110'.

The height of the lift, of course, determines the energy available to the train for its movement throughout the course. If the lift isn't high enough, the train won't complete its circuit because there just won't be enough energy. At 110', I'd estimate the length of track after the main lift to be about 2500' to 3000'. To compare, a Vekoma-made Suspended Looping Coaster is 109' tall and runs for 2200'.

In any case, even if the main track length is something longer -- say 4500', that leaves about 1900' between the station and the main lift -- or nearly 20% of its entire length.

Actually Everest has a 120ft lift hill. Now that I think of it, it could be possible for Everest to be 6300 ft long because of the first section before the main lift hill. If it does go around the theming before the lift(to add to the story), that could be about 1000-2000 ft of track. After ascending the main lift, 55 mph can travel about 4000 ft of track. Add those two lengths and you would get about 6300 ft. Not entirely impossible. We'll see when it comes out. If it's wrong, blame the people that told WDWScottieBoy!

You cannot just take the 55mph and convert it to distance. There is a switchback which will take most, if not all, of the available momentum and take it away.

From the way I understand it, you :
do the "theme" section,
then go up the main lift,
do some downhills,
get scared by the yeti,
switch backward,
do some stuff,
get scared again,
switch forward,
80 foot drop,
coast to a slight lift,
return to station.

Edit: OMFG I cannot believe I actually typed "backwards" and "forwards". I should be executed immediately.

Meh' maybe not..

But it is hard to measure length from a picture.

If that's how you see the ride being executed, you're going to have fun the day you ride it. :) Cause it's way off.

Whats so off about it? You switch back and forth before the drop. The little other stuff, well, I don't really want to know that stuff.

You only the Yeti once and that's after the big drop. :) That's all I could spot.

See him, yes. But if I remember correctly, you "hear" him and are "teased" by the idea of the yeti before the drop.
