Not sure about all this MI talk. It feels just like Transformers and Fast X to me with US audiences being kind of indiferent. Combined with a decent overseas haul it can certainly do well but it doesn't have a billion dollar feel to it.

Speaking for myself, I have such a low desire to see an 80 year old in an action movie that is a sequel to a movie I saw decades ago. Give me a new action adventure movie. A new cast and a new idea. It just feels so phoned in. Change a character and try to ride the name, I'm just not falling for it.

If Mission Impossible makes $1b ( not tracking to so it would surprise me ) then Disney is toast.

Means the brand is damaged and people won’t go see movies with a castle in the intro.

IF and it’s a huge if it makes a Billion, Hollywood is officially on notice.

That's a thing? Is it just me, or is this news to folks here?

Wow. I may have to limit my postings to daylight hours. 🤣
You can still get banned during daylight hours.

Trust me. 👍

Edit: At least from threads. I have not managed a complete ban yet, and imagine it would take some egregious behavior.

Well, I can't. Because I've never been a day drinker and I am inherently a kind and gracious person (or so my Mom told me).

But at night around 10pm on my second cocktail, I can forget to be kind and gracious. But at least my wit sticks with me throughout.

As for Indy 5, box office numbers from the last big foreign countries to report (UK, Korea, etc.) came in yesterday. Indy 5 is still pulling in overseas box office that is noticeably less than its domestic take, with a $20 Million difference. Not good for a movie they spent $450 Million on to produce and market.

July 5th, 2023
Total Domestic Box Office $89.3 Million
Total Overseas Box Office $69.5 Million

TWDC is going to steadily reap money from Indy 5 it will be a slow process and not in huge chunks but it will make some money. Already the suits have moved on and Indy 5 is in the rear-view mirror. The push is back on for live action remake with this in 2024.....

When was the last time a "new action-adventure movie" with "a new cast and a new idea" succeeded? John Wick, 9 years ago? Avatar 14 years ago? People say stuff like this and its so completely divorced from the reality of the last two-and-a-half decades its hard to take seriously,

Agreed…I saw this yesterday…I also don’t understand the harsher critic reviews…I rewatched the other Indiana Jones films to get hyped and it fits right in with what you expect from Indiana Jones…. As far as the hatred here…none of those that are complaining watched the movie…like always

I did, and she's still Fleabag.

What we need is a new Uncharted movie with an aged up Drake. Maybe even a Tomb Raider movie with also an aged up Croft.
Fun fact- the Uncharted movie was in development so long that Mark Wahlberg, who was originally looked at for the Drake role, eventually wound up playing the much older Sully

I mean, which is fine. This is me personally. Hollywood doesn't have to (actually, lets say absolutely shouldnt) follow the movie enjoyment for one middle age guy. Just saying that for myself, I don't want rehash movies. It feels like that is all any pushed movie is at this point to me (pushed being movies I see ads for consistantly) and it just gets boring for me, especially after such long breaks. As someone who has to really make an effort to see movies at this point with kids in all their different sports, it's just not worth it to me.

Seems news is escalating from that guy on You Tube that so many seem to loathe.

It hasn’t “escalated,” it’s circulating in the same self-reinforcing culture war outrage network where it’s been banging around for weeks - both Kelly and the NY Post are elements of it. It’s an obvious lie that they are trying to make real through repetition, and it makes its consumers feel good by feeding their hate so they accept it at face value. The story here is how efficient and predictable the culture war machine is. Not to put too fine a point on it, but if you don’t understand this, you’re a dupe or a liar.
