I'm going to end up seeing both just because I end up seeing most movies, but I rather see Oppenheimer over Barbie. So personally I see it doing ok, but not gangbusters.

Id like to see it too. It will make a nice change from the mindless kid stuff. I hear it has a 110 day theatical release.

I'm old. I spent most of my life living (and a few years as an enlisted man fighting) in the Cold War. I remember when The Bomb was a big deal.
Peace through strength, and all that.
But even I don't want to go see Oppenheimer in the middle of summer. Because it's summer. I want fun. I want color. I want... Barbie.
The Haunted Mansion should have been released in late September, and Oppenheimer should have been released in January. Seasons matter.

It looks like "Mission Impossible" will be sucking up all the movie theater oxygen this summer. Everything else will be an also ran.

I'm not so sure Mission Impossible will do as well as some believe. I've got my tickets, but my theater still has plenty of empty seats, this is still a few days out though,

Well it's a brewery/theater, food service delivered to your seat, so not a ton of seats. However, the local Imax showing on Thursday night looks sparsely attended as well.

Local amc on opening weekend (Friday)
Judging by this its going to fail nobody wants the movie…it would also be unwise for me to assume that it would fail based on cherrypicking data. We can show local theaters all we want but the truth is we won’t know how the film does until after the fact. Given the film is opening nationwide not on Tuesday its actual opening weekend will likely be lower than some would expect given it wouldve been out for three days already by the time Friday rolls around. Of couse this is true unless they decide to call Tuesday to Thursday previews and lump it into the weekend

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying MI is going to bomb, but it's a rather long film, which hinders the number of showing per day it can get, and it doesn't have the widest audience reach. Like I said, I have my tickets already, but this franchise is not the same as the Top Gun sequel.

That is why I think showing presales is silly. My theater always has at least 5 theaters for a new release movie starting every 30 minutes. There is no reason for me to buy a presale ticket until a few hours before the movie. I have a reserved seat so there is no waiting in line and getting there hours early. It isn't like the old days.

Helena is definitely not the hero in this movie. It’s still Indy and the movie is all sorts of fun. The 18 minute opening action sequence is worth the price of admission alone. There are a lot of worse ways to spend a summer afternoon than watching Indiana Jones battle a bunch of Nazis.

Well, I think the main problem of the movie (aside from the horribly unlikeable side character and boring action scenes) was that they decided to try and make an eighty year old the protagonist of an action franchise that's kinda known for crazy stunts. So it's what comes to mind when thinking of the movie not being good.
Nothing against old people, but I'm not going to pretend this movie wasn't a bad idea.

I am sure all you fans remember when a young Indiana Jones (played by River Phoenix) got the iconic Fedora passed to him by another adventurous archeologist wearing a leather jacket. Another yet unnamed young actor can bring a fresh character and fresh title yet utilize the adventurous, thrill seeking, archeologist story line. After having the iconic Fedora passed to them at a critical early scene in the production of course. This IP is not going away, it's just a matter of when some non-creative, non-genius suit decides to bring it back in a new form hopefully giving the project to someone that actually is a creative.
